The brown part is the Central African Republic:

As you can see, its position is not ideal. In the East it's bordered by Sudan where turbulencies have been frequent over time and in the south, Congo where tensions rise and fall in extreme measures. Last measure was a sudden rise again :(
The people of the CAR aren't doing to well now.
As has been the case for Sudan, the country was divided by the classical tool of Christians vs. Muslims. The rich south has now become independently Christian under foreign support, the north is for the Muslims. Perhaps also because that area is closer to the Arab part of Africa.
In the CAR it now seems that whoever is having good fortune with it, intends to carve out a similar scenario for the country. Christians and Muslims have been attacking each other in turns with the most recent events reporting of Christians massacring and evicting Muslims out of their homes/towns and pushing them towards the borders.
What I find most flagrant in all of this is: despite that many people have found death and pain here in circumstances that are simply gruesome, this does not make regular news. The last image I saw was angry people shouting angry slogans and the evicted Central Africans sitting by the mosque waiting for a good idea.
I have no knowledge of (visible) funds that are being collected to help the people of the CAR. No other urgent help (besides UN troops on standby) is being reported to have been sent to the region.
Kindly send your love and healing to this region, they need it asap.
