An update on the situation in Ukraine, we know propaganda comes from all sides
especially in a crisis like this and in theory at a time press both east and west are
more open than ever before. There is plenty of claim and counter claims and
sometimes more is less, but it is incredible how the media can still be manipulated
and polarised as it always has been. Still we can still discuss it on the web for now.
These articles are from good researcher/journalists, but every story has a slant
depending on their views.
There is a lot of info in these vids and some have been posted on other threads. I
don't expect you to watch them all unless you are interested, but we have reached
a lull until the Crimea has its vote on leaving Ukraine and is a good time to catch up
on events so far.

We want to be Russian, say Crimean MPs as tensions rise

‘Politicians in Crimea have voted in favour of joining Russia and will now put the
question to the region’s electorate in a referendum.
Approved by Moscow, the move will further aggravate tensions in the region which
has been the focus of the conflict between Ukraine and its powerful neighbour since
the fall of Ukraine’s president Viktor Yanukovich last month.
Crimea previously belonged to the Russian Federation until it was transferred to
Ukraine in 1954 by Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev. The region is predominantly
made up of ethnic Russians, many of whom are likely to choose to join with Russia.
The Crimean parliament voted unanimously “to enter into the Russian Federation
with the rights of a subject of the Russian Federation”. A referendum will now be
held on March 16.’

We've seen the rollout of the MSM propaganda using over-the-top hyperbole and
flat-out lies to try to demonize Russia in the lead up to the "new cold war." But is
this just part of the dialectic, trying to get us to buy into one side or the other in a
rigged game? Should we devolve into mere spectators choosing sides in a squabble
between #TeamObama and #TeamPutin? Join us this week on The Corbett Report
as we explore whether the enemy of our enemy is indeed our friend.

UK banks in row over Yulia Tymoshenko ‘millions’
http://www.independent.co.uk/incoming/article9177770.ece/ALTERNATES/w620/yulia.jpg
‘Prominent UK banks are at the centre of a dispute over allegations that numerous
foreign accounts were set up in the name of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia
Tymoshenko and her family.
A leaked report, seen by The Independent, claims that 85 bank accounts containing
millions of pounds were linked to Ms Tymoshenko and relatives.
This global review of Ms Tymoshenko’s finances was carried out as part of a wider
investigation by Lawrence Graham, the London law firm, which was commissioned
last March by the then-Ukrainian Ministry of Revenues and Duties of toppled
president Viktor Yanukovich to trace assets allegedly misappropriated by the former
prime minister.’

Who Is Provoking the Unrest in Ukraine? A Debate on Role of Russia, U.S. in Regional Crisis...

http://www.democracynow.org - Russia is vowing to keep its troops in the
Ukrainian region of Crimea in what has become Moscow's biggest confrontation
with the West since the Cold War. Ukraine's new Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk
said Russian President Vladimir Putin had effectively declared war on his country.
Concern is growing that more of eastern Ukraine could soon fall to the Russians.
Earlier today, Russian troops seized a Ukraine Coast Guard base in the Crimean city
of Balaklava. On Sunday, the new head of Ukraine's navy defected to Russia. To
talk more about the crisis in Ukraine, we speak to Yale University History Professor
Timothy Snyder. His latest article for The New York Review of Books is "Ukraine:
The Haze of Propaganda." We also speak to retired CIA analyst Ray McGovern. He
focused on Russian foreign policy for the first decade of his 27-year career with the
Agency. He recently wrote an article titled, "Ukraine: One 'Regime Change' Too Many?"

Nato jets to monitor Ukraine border

Nato is to deploy reconnaissance planes in Poland and Romania to monitor the
Ukrainian crisis.
It gave the go-ahead for the flights on Monday, a Nato spokesman said.
"All Awacs [Airborne Warning and Control System] reconnaissance flights will take
place solely over alliance territory," the official said.
It comes as Russia cements its control of Ukraine's Crimea ahead of Sunday's
referendum to join Russia. Ukraine and the West say this is illegal.
In the latest move on Monday, armed men - said to be Russian troops and local
militias - seized a military hospital in Crimea.
The attackers marched into the hospital in the regional capital Simferopol,
threatening staff and some 30 patients.
Pro-Russian troops are also blockading Ukrainian troops across Crimea, which is an
autonomous region.
Moscow has officially denied that its troops are taking part in the blockades,
describing the armed men with no insignia as Crimea's "self-defence" forces.
The government in Kiev - as well as the US and EU - accuse Russia of invading
Ukraine, in violation of international law.
'Enhance awareness'
Nato said the surveillance flights would "enhance the alliance's situational awareness".
Last week, the organisation said it was reviewing all co-operation with Russia and
stepping up its engagement with the government in Kiev.
Nato's announcement on Monday came hours after men in military uniforms broke
into the Simferopol hospital, where Ukrainian soldiers and veterans were being
treated. Some of the patients were reported to be seriously ill.
The hospital director said he was forced onto a bus and kept there for half-an-hour.
The attackers also herded staff into a reception to apparently meet "the new
directors", Ukraine's Interfax-Ukraina news agency reports.
Separately, pro-Russian troops tried to capture a military transport base in
Bahkchysarai, a town between Simferopol and the city of Sevastopol.
The gunmen fired warning shots into the air, but Ukrainian soldiers repelled the
attack. The negotiations are reportedly still continuing.
Step-by-step, and meeting very little resistance, the pro-Russian troops are
dismantling Ukraine's ability to resist in Crimea, says the BBC's Christian Fraser,
who is in the region.

On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin defended Crimea's decision to stage a
referendum on 16 March. Mr Putin said "the steps taken by Crimea's legitimate
authorities are based on international law".
However, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told him in a phone call that she
considered the vote illegal.
Both EU leaders and the US have warned Moscow they would slap even tougher
sanctions if Russian troops remained in Crimea.
Unrest in Ukraine erupted in November after former President Viktor Yanukovych's
last-minute rejection of a landmark EU deal in favour of a bailout from Russia.
Mr Yanukovych was ousted last month, and a new government has been voted in
by the Ukrainian parliament which Russia says was a "coup".
