Russia and Crimea have signed treaty of accession of the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol in the Russian Federation following President Putin’s address to the Parliament.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin requests parliament to ratify the agreement that would see both Crimea and the city of Sevastopol joining Russia.

“I ask you to consider the adoption of two new subjects of the Federation: Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol,” Putin told Parliamentarians.

Crimea was represented by Prime Minister Sergey Aksenov and Sevastopol mayor Aleksey Chaly, who signed the treaty. The two were accompanied by Crimean top official Vladimir Konstantinov.

“Since the adoption of the Russian Federation Republic of Crimea in structure of the Russian Federation two new entities - of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Federal importance Sevastopol – have been created,” the text of the treaty reads.

The document will be sent for approval to the constitutional court, and then to ratification in the parliaments of the two countries.

The transition period will be acting till January, 1 of 2015.

Russia has been suspended as a member of the G8. The French Foreign Minister, Laurent Fabius said Tuesday on French radio that the club's most influential industrialized nations has decided to exclude Russia for the time being.


The talks club Estaing was founded by the French President Valery Giscard d 'Estaing in 1975 is now the G7. The club began with France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and the U.S. (G6). In 1976, Canada (G7) and in 1998 Russia (G8) followed.

A former "economic hitman" explained that the United States model for global domination cannot be repeated - and should not be attempted.

Author John Perkins explained last week on the David Pakman Show how American corporations extorted natural resources from developing nations in a process that sounds very similar to domestic privatization schemes.

Perkins, who wrote the 2004 book Confessions of an Economic Hitman about his experience working as a chief economist for the engineering company Chas. T. Main, said corporations would identify countries that had resources sought by the U.S. and arrange for them to obtain large loans from the World Bank and similar organizations.

"But the money never actually went to the country," Perkins said. "Instead, it went to our own corporations to build infrastructure projects in that country. They made a great deal of profit from that."

The countries would use those borrowed funds to build electrical systems, highways, industrial parks, and other infrastructure projects.

"Yet the country would be left holding a huge debt they couldn't repay, and so at some point we'd go back and say, 'Hey, you know, since you can't pay your debts, sell your resource - oil, whatever - very cheap to our companies without any environmental restrictions or social regulations or privatize your public sector businesses, sell them real cheap - your utility companies, your water and sewage system, your schools, your jails, off to our corporations," Perkins said. "And in that way we created the world's first truly global empire, primarily without the use of the military."

He said most economists agreed that developing countries needed better infrastructure to improve their economies, but he said statistics supporting this model were misleading.

"I came to understand that the poor people were not benefitting, that the statistics reflect the very wealthy, which is true in this country, too, you know, that 85 people control more resources than half the world's population," Perkins said. "Our statistics are very, very skewed to those rich people."

He claims in his book the U.S. backed the assassinations of Panamanian leader Omar Torrijos and Ecuadoran President Jaime Roldós Aguilera in a pair of 1981 plane crashes because they refused to bow to corporate interests.

"We've created a death economy, one that's based on killing people, militarization, and ravaging the earth," Perkins said. "We need to move into a life economy that's based on cleaning up pollution, feeding starving people, developing new technologies, transportation, communications, (and) energy."

He declared the global economy to be "an abject failure," arguing that Americans make up just 5 percent of the world's population but consume 30 percent of its natural resources.

"That's not a model," Perkins said. "It can't be repeated by China, even though they're trying. It just puts the world in a worse condition when other countries try to repeat our model. We must come up with a new model."

He said some corporate leaders and many consumers have arrived at similar conclusions and are beginning to take steps to correct the problems he's identified.

"We're truly in a consciousness revolution, a huge revolution, where people are waking up to the fact that we're living on a very fragile space station that has no shuttles," Perkins said. "We're going to have to take care of this place, and big business is going to have to play a major role in waking up and taking care of this, serving a public interest - not the 1 percent, but the 99 percent - serving the earth, in essence, and we all need to get out there and make sure that happens."

One of the keys may be found by looking back at Zbigniew Brzezinski’s 1997 book, The Grand Chessboard (http://www.amazon.com/The-Grand-Chessboard-Geostrategic-Imperatives/dp/0465027261/antiwarbookstore) in which he wrote, “Ukraine, a new and important space on the Eurasian chessboard, is a geopolitical pivot because its very existence as an independent country helps to transform Russia. Without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire.”

“However, if Moscow regains control over Ukraine, with its 52 million people and major resources as well as access to the Black Sea, Russia automatically again regains the wherewithal to become a powerful imperial state, spanning Europe and Asia.”

The former national security advisor to Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1981 and top foreign policy advisor to Barack Obama, Brzezinski wrote that US policy should be “unapologetic” in perpetuating “America’s own dominant position for at least a generation and preferably longer still.”

Brzezinski delved into the importance of little known Ukraine by explaining in his 1997 book, “Geopolitical pivots are the states whose importance is derived not from their power and motivation but rather from their sensitive location… which in some cases gives them a special role in either defining access to important areas or in denying resources to a significant player.”

“Ukraine, Azerbaijan, South Korea, Turkey and Iran play the role of critically important geopolitical pivots,” he wrote in The Grand Chessboard (http://www.amazon.com/The-Grand-Chessboard-Geostrategic-Imperatives/dp/0465027261/antiwarbookstore), a book viewed by many as a blueprint for US world domination.

Brzezinski wrote that Eurasia is “the chessboard on which the struggle for global primacy continues to be played,” and that “it is imperative that no Eurasian challenger emerges, capable of dominating Eurasia and thus also of challenging America.”

I was going to do a post yesterday but got involved in another, after work
yesterday I was looking at the history of the Crimea, and there is not a
great historic Ukrainian claim to the peninsula. The Russians have a better
one, though it does not seem to have been an idependent entity but a
region of one empire or another and with the majority of the population
being ethnic Russian,I don't think there was a lot to be done to prevent
this reunion baring war. The Eastern Region of the Ukraine is different
and that could spark off military conflict if developments keep going
the way they are.


The history of the Crimean peninsula covers more than 2,000 years, with many
different conquerors and settlers throughout time. The Cimmerians, Greeks,
Scythians, Goths, Huns, Bulgars, Khazars, the state of Kievan Rus',
Byzantine Greeks, Romans, Kipchaks, Ottoman Turks, Golden Horde Tatars
and the Mongols all controlled Crimea in its early history. In the 13th century,
it was partly controlled by the Venetians and by the Genovese; they were
followed by the Crimean Khanate and the Ottoman Empire in the 15th to
18th centuries, the Russian Empire in the 18th to 20th centuries, the
Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and later the Ukrainian
Soviet Socialist Republic within the Soviet Union. In 1991 it became part
of independent Ukraine, as the Autonomous Republic Crimea together
with the city of Sevastopol.

I watched this documentary about the battle for the
Crimea in WW11 and it gives you a feel for the dogged
determination of the Russian nature. As Napoleon before,
Hitler under estimated Russian resolve under threat,
after initial massive success, the Soviets were able to
stop and eventually grind down the axis invasion.
WW11 was mainly won and last on the Eastern front.

Noticed on TV the Russian politicians gave Putin a standing ovation for annexing Crimea. There is a big difference with the way we see Crimea and how the Russian people are seeing it. Even Russians living in America are telling us Putin does as he says and our Prez don't and the hypocrisy of the US politics and red lines. And what can Europe do if most of their energy comes from Russia? Obama could do something immediately if he were to announce we will be sharing our free energy technologies with the rest of the world. That would remove the fear of energy loss to Europe and Russia could no longer hold them hostage.

into Russia.Putin signed the law after a speech to Russia's parliament, in which he
hit back at his critics.It comes after Sunday's referendum in Crimea, which saw
overwhelming support for a union with Russia.He condemned Ukraine's "so-called"
authorities, saying they had stolen power in a coup and had opened the way
for "extremists" who would stop at nothing to determine the future of the country.

Addressing a joint session of Russia's parliament, Putin said: "Those who were
behind recent events, they were ... preparing a coup d'etat, another one. They
were planning to seize power, stopping at nothing. Terror, murder, pogroms were
used."

He called them "nationalists, neo-Nazis, Russophobes and anti-Semites" adding: "It
is primarily they who are deciding how Ukraine lives today. The so-called Ukrainian
authorities introduced a scandalous law on the revision of the language policy,
which directly violated the rights of the national minorities."

He said Moscow sees Western attempts to frighten Russia with sanctions as
aggression and will retaliate.Earlier Putin signed a decree which recognises Crimea
as a sovereign and independent state. The Kremlin said the order would take
immediate effect.

The process of freeing the Crimea area
from the coup regime in Ukraine is legitamate,
from the russian viewpoint, of course .

No mattar any other viewpoint, then
Russia should receive that Crimea Area
as a gift, for saving us "westerners" from the Nazis
in the Last world war. They gave the most to stop
them, at least 35 billion (million) people dead in service,
& then d USA "alliance" swooped in at the end
and claimed all the glory, uummn m ....
