That is a horribly sad story! :(

This is similar to what the Lahars will accomplish, if Rainier ever erupts or produces a mudflow.
Even if something came off the side of the volcano, it could conceivably produce a lahar..

That's why elevated composite cone volcanoes are so dangerous.

But this landslide, that's horrifying!

I keep asking why the US gov't doesn't make some DRONES to dig people out of earthquake/landslide rubble...

Maybe human life is worth nothing to them? Clue?

I used to drive that highway once a month to work at their local clinic~ One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
So so so sad :(

Italian TV says 108 people are unaccounted for.... sigh....

that's the part i didn't catch until the other thread went up.

over 100 people missing because we have no equipment in the U S A of all places capable of getting them out.

ex Air Force person wants to know, where are the SEARCH/RESCUE drones you idiot military???
