modedit:
[T]he Pakistan Today article is a satire. It is based on a number of pronouncements that the CII have made over the last year which have been anti-women in nature. However, to the best of my knowledge, at no stage have the CII ever said that women are 'a perpetual enemy of Islam'. This and other elements of the Pakistan Today article are satire.
The article is written in a column called 'Khabaristan Today' (sometimes author of column feed here (https://twitter.com/khuldune)). In the article the author quotes the 'Khabaristan Times' which would appear to be a "nod and a wink" to a local reader of their copy. The remainder of my response (above (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?70096-Council-of-Islamic-Ideology-declares-women--s-existence-anti-Islamic&p=818011&viewfull=1#post818011)) to the OP is accurate and pertains to the present situation in Pakistan as well as the CII and Sindh Assembly.

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) concluded their 192nd meeting on Thursday with the ruling that women are un-Islamic and that their mere existence contradicted Sharia and the will of Allah.
As the meeting concluded CII Chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani noted that women by existing defied the laws of nature, and to protect Islam and the Sharia women should be forced to stop existing as soon as possible.
The announcement comes a couple of days after CII’s 191st meeting where they dubbed laws related to minimum marriage age to be un-Islamic.
After declaring women to be un-Islamic, Shirani explained that there were actually two kinds of women – haraam and makrooh. “We can divide all women in the world into two distinct categories: those who are haraam and those who are makrooh. Now the difference between haraam and makrooh is that the former is categorically forbidden while the latter is really really disliked,” Shirani said.
He further went on to explain how the women around the world can ensure that they get promoted to being makrooh, from just being downright haraam.
“Any woman that exercises her will is haraam, absolutely haraam, and is conspiring against Islam and the Ummah, whereas those women who are totally subservient can reach the status of being makrooh.
Such is the generosity of our ideology and such is the endeavour of Muslim men like us who are the true torchbearers of gender equality,” the CII chairman added.
Officials told Khabaristan Today that the council members deliberated over various historic references related to women and concluded that each woman is a source of fitna and a perpetual enemy of Islam. They also decided that by restricting them to their subordinate, bordering on slave status, the momineen and the mujahideen can ensure that Islam continues to be the religion of peace, prosperity and gender equality.
Responding to a question one of the officials said that international standards of gender equality should not be used if they contradict Islam or the constitution of Pakistan that had incorporated Islam and had given sovereignty to Allah. “We don’t believe in western ideals, and nothing that contradicts Islam should ever be paid heed. In any case by giving women the higher status of being makrooh, it’s us Muslims who have paved the way for true, Sharia compliant feminism,” the official said.
The CII meeting also advised the government that to protect Islam women’s right to breathe should also be taken away from them. “Whether a woman is allowed to breathe or not be left up to her husband or male guardian, and no woman under any circumstance whatsoever should be allowed to decide whether she can breathe or not,” Shirani said.

Do they have test tube reproduction off to perfection then?
Or do they wish to exterminate their own people.
How embarrassed must thinking man be in that country.

This is like saying we should stop wind from blowing because it is interfering with our hair style.
Anyway it's not for the Islamic group, Baptist group or any other religious group to deem other groups unwanted.

sounds like Pakistan gave them a complete smackdown throwing their decision out of public policy...
The Sindh Assembly on Monday passed a resolution unanimously censuring the Council for Islamic Ideology for its recent controversial recommendations and calling for its closure. A resolution, which was moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional lady lawmaker, Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, said that the recent CII recommendations were damaging to social set-up. She termed the recommendations as 'regressive and anti-women'.
The resolution pointed at three recent recommendations of the council, which generated controversies, as the civil society censured the council for them. "This house shows its strong reservations on the recent recommendations of Council of Islamic Ideology, which show complete indifference and insensitivity to the issue pertaining to women. Like, no minimal age for marriage, recommendation against DNA test as evidence in rape cases, no need of taking the permission of wife for second marriage...,"it said.
Lawmakers from either side of the house supported the resolution, as the mover called for closing the CII for 'creating confusion in the society.' The parliamentary leader of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Irfanullah Khan Marwat, said that the federal government may lack courage to challenge the council's recommendations but the Sindh Assembly will continue to oppose these.
MQM's Syed Sardar Ahmed said the council came into existence in line with the Constitution's Article 22 (A) which has a specific role to function. He said the council can only set forth its recommendations and cannot enforce any law. He said the government should appoint competent people to run the council undisputedly and it should not also accept all of its recommendations. Sindh Senior Education Minister, Nisar Khuhro, Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Dr Sikandar Mandhro, and opposition leader Faisal Sabzwari also expressed their views and asked the federal government to step up to call the recommendation null and void, in terms of religion... link (http://www.brecorder.com/general-news/172/1168327/)

CII chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani (L) and Marvi Memon of PML-N (R)
ISLAMABAD: In an apparent rebuff to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII)’s stand on child marriage, Marvi Memon, along with other members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on Tuesday proposed harsher punishments for those found guilty of the act.
The CII had recently ruled that laws on child marriage were un-Islamic, but members from the ruling PML-N took an opposing stance on the floor of the National Assembly on Tuesday by proposing that punishment for those who contract and solemnize the marriage should be harsher.
The CII in its 191th meeting on March 10 had given the ruling that laws related to minimum age of marriage were un-Islamic and that children of any age could get married if they attain puberty.
The move in the National Assembly earned the ire of other members, most prominently Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani, the chairman of the CII.
“The CII had already given its recommendations over the Act and it should have not come in the National Assembly,” said Shirani after Marvi Memon of PML-N introduced a bill seeking amendments in the Act.
Movers of the bill also include Asiya Naz Tanoli, Muhammad Pervaiz Malik and Shaista Pervaiz.
Shirani opposed the proposed amendments saying that they were contrary to Islamic teachings and laws. In order to substantiate his arguments, he quoted Article 2, 7 and 227 of the Constitution, several verses from Quran and Hadith and said that according to Islamic laws marriage can be solemnised when a girl attains puberty.
“Parliament could not legislate laws which are against the teachings of Quran and Sunnah,” he added.
Another JUI-F member, Moulana Ameer Zaman said that the issue should be referred to the CII further perusal and discussion.
Commenting over the issue, Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf said that the bill be referred to the relevant standing committee for further deliberations as it was proposed by the Speaker NA.
However, SA Iqbal Qadri from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement [MQM] had a different take as he also opposed the idea of introducing the bill in lower house but on a different ground.
“After the passage of 18th Constitutional Amendment the subject [marriage] has become a provincial subject and the bill should not have come here,” he added.
Amendments proposed by the Bill
The bill had sought amendments in the Child Marriage Restraint Act, 1929 proposing six amendments in the existing laws.
The bill has proposed strict punishment through amendment which says “Whoever, being a male above eighteen years of age, contracts child marriage shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to one hundred thousand rupees, or with both.”
Before the amendment, the Act said that the punishment should be “simple”, may extend to “one month” and fine may extend to one thousands rupees.
Similarly, the punishment for solemnizing the child marriage has been suggested to be “rigorous” instead of “simple”, for “two years” instead of existing “one month” and the fine should be “one hundred thousands” instead of one thousands.
The bill has also proposed three substitutions in section 8, 9 and 12. Substation in section 8 reads “Jurisdiction under this Act:- The Family Court, established under section 3 of the West Pakistan Family Court Act 1964 (No.XXXV of 1964) shall exercise jurisdiction under this Act and may take cognizance of an offence in the manner provided by section 190 of the code of Code of Criminal Procedure 1898 (No. V of 1898).”
Substitution of Section 9 says that offences under this Act shall be cognizable “All offences under this Act shall be cognizable; such cognizance shall in no case be taken after the expiry of one year from the date on which offence in alleged to have been committed.”
The final amendment proposed substitution of Section 12 that relates to Power to issue injunction prohibiting marriage “(1) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in any other law, the court may, if satisfied from information laid before it through a complaint or otherwise that a child marriage in contravention of this Act is going to be arranged or is about to be solemnized, issue an injunction prohibiting such marriage. (2) Whoever, knowing that an injunction has been issued against him under sub-section (1) of this section, disobeys such injunction, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to one year with fine which may extend to one hundred thousand rupees, or both.”

Former prime minister Gordon Brown has announced that "child marriage-free zones" are to be set up in Pakistan.
Mr Brown, the UN's special envoy on global education, said the practice of forcing girls into marriage is "not acceptable in the modern world".
"It deprives a girl of her education and her childhood," he told the BBC.
Speaking on a visit to Islamabad, he revealed the UN is giving $10m (£6m), and the EU 100m euros (£83m), to get more Pakistani children into education.
Pilot project
"What we want to do is to encourage girls themselves to be aware of their rights, to encourage teachers and girls to work together to say that when people try to force them into early marriage, it's not acceptable," he said.
"And so in Pakistan, we are going to do a pilot project where we declare an area to a marriage-free zone, a child marriage-free zone."

The world does not want girls to be married as girls”
Gordon Brown
He added that there was support for such a scheme in Pakistan and that funding for it would be made available.
Child marriage-free zones have already been set up in other countries, according to the former Labour leader.
Mr Brown said: "There are groups in Pakistan who want to make it easier for people to sell off their children in marriage at an early age, and that is not acceptable.
"It deprives a girl of her education and her childhood and indeed changes her life, and is something that is not acceptable in the modern world.
"So as part of our campaign to get every child at school, we want to remind people that the world does not want girls to be married as girls, as brides when they should be at school."
'Global commitment'
There is greater support amongst the general public for a ban of forced marriage for girls, Mr Brown believes.
"I think that people are realising that it is unfair for a girl to be pushed into marriage when she's still a child," he added.
There has been a global commitment to get every child into education by December 2015, which the UN and EU money will help to achieve, said Mr Brown, who is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
"There are seven million children who are not going to school," he said. "This is completely unacceptable in the modern world and I know the prime minister wishes to do something about it.
"What we've got to do is find a way that Pakistan can increase the money its spending on education and we can give support from the international community for them to do so.
"We don't want girls forced into early marriage, we don't want child labour, we don't want girls and boys that are trafficked, we want schools that have teachers and we have got to make a huge impact on this problem as quickly as possible."

This article tells me that the Women of Islam are finally shedding their bonds of slavery and that the established Mullahs feel threatened and are trying desperately to hang on to their old ways. We have seen this in history time after time, different events, different issues but no less the same. A country based on theocracy has a very unstable foundation this is why they are so violent and so eager to lash out. Change is hard and many people resist change, even willing to give up their lives to keep things the same.
Sharia law gives people the false impression that it is OK to treat women as less than men (after all it is the law). Sharia Law should be crushed and dismantled at every opportunity. It is probably more responsible for keeping so many people in the middle east acting like they still live in the dark ages. Unfortunately, some in the west want to embrace Sharia Law, people become knowledgeable about the basics of Sharia Law and speak out against it at every opportunity.
Just because "Its The Law" does not make it good for humanity.

No. It is not ! You must have misread.
Besides, Civil Code Law does not recongnize the marriage, if one is under 18 years old.
To be able to marry at 16 or 17, there is a process of law.
First, the parents of the underage must open a process of emancipation, in the court of law.
The court will rule if the underage can be or not emancipated, that is if he can be accepted as an adult for the act of marriage only.
He/she - the under age - will not be considered an adult for any other acts, except those necessary for the contract of marriage.

Official statistics released by the Islamic Republic between 2006 and 2011 involving girls below 10 year of age, 10-14 and 15 -19 in a number of provinces in Iran indicates a staggering increase of 6448 marriages for the three above mentioned age groups. Within the same period, the ratio of marriages involving girls compared to those among adults grew by 45%.
2 Statistics indicate the number of girls under the age of 15 who were registered to marry increased from 33,383 in 2006 to 39,831 in 2011... link (http://www.ohchr.org/Documents/Issues/Women/WRGS/ForcedMarriage/NGO/JusticeForIran.pdf)

This is just incredibly retrograde. To still have that kind of beliefs in people is so so depressing. By way of religion anything and anyone can become such a monster but as long as it's backed by religion it's alright. When and where did these brains start to get the idea to act and think so detached from the other half of humanity? I'm trying to sound civilized, but inside of my brain there is a tornado of so many feelings that want to explode in a bad way...yeah, hell yeah!!! Yes, lets pretend this doesn't happen so we don not give in to the bad feelings one gets just to know about it. But oh, this is not easy, the program is working wonders and then some, no? How very resourceful of them to come up with such great ideas. I'm sorry I cannot present you with a more scientific approach but I needed to rant and well... there.

Your comment should not even been made Conk. This has nothing to do with the people as such. This has to do with a bunch of psychopath taking the power and doing what they want. In those countries, the power is first of all religious. In USA it is political except for some states where it is religious as well (i could not resist lol, my comment is as out place as yours).
By the way, did you know that most people in numerous countries nowadays think exactly the same as what you wrote, but for Americans. How does it make you feel? Does it leads to any solutions?

Your comment should not even been made Conk. This has nothing to do with the people as such. This has to do with a bunch of psychopath taking the power and doing what they want. In those countries, the power is first of all religious. In USA it is political except for some states where it is religious as well (i could not resist lol, my comment is as out place as yours).
By the way, did you know that most people in numerous countries nowadays think exactly the same as what you wrote, but for Americans. How does it make you feel? Does it leads to any solutions?

I lived for years in the Middle East Conk, my comments are based on thorough knowledge. However, my ignorance if any may come from the fact that those ridiculous religious norms may come from a satire.
I repeat: this is not the average people but the psychopaths who leads and impose such ideas.
And let me tell you that if you think your comments were based on spiritual awareness (Hawkins), boy you have some more trails to walk on before understanding what Hawkins was saying, he is truly misinterpreted. I cannot believe he did not mention empathy in the spiritual development path somewhere!!.
It is time to learn to treat humans as more than komodo dragons or any other animal, this way of thinking leads nowhere except to war and hatred.

Well for once, I certainly hope this is another bad attempt at an April Fool's joke. I pray it is. Because to sentence our gender to death, will cause the worldwide 'Harriet Tubmans" to come out. I saw a movie when I was younger where 5 women escaped a concentration camp, and on the way out had overheard, a plot to slaughter the towns people, and they wanted to hold them off until the Americans came. They had ammo and were staked out in the same sort of mountains like Afghanistan. It was called "Five Branded Women."
I think Raquel Welch or another star that shaved their heads like a man to pass through towns dresses as men with guns over their shoulders, as one had gotten raped and had a child while they were crossing the mountains:ohwell:. Was a great movie, and really clicked with me as far as the holding them off until help arrives.
These women will have to start hand signals and be careful to communicate. I've seen a video of a immigrant woman hung upside down and beaten by several men with a wooden paddle. Stuff's got to stop now. These men are going to far already with the child brides and selling them when they owe debt.
For them not to have a value of women's lives, they should hope karma doesn't catch them by the "cajones."

AFGHANISTAN: “I sold my daughter to feed the rest of my family” (http://www.irinnews.org/report/78276/afghanistan-i-sold-my-daughter-to-feed-the-rest-of-my-family)

Sayed Ali said he had to sell his daughter to save the rest of his family from starvation
SHEBERGHAN, 18 May 2008 (IRIN) - Sayed Ali (not his real name) said he sold his 11-year-old daughter, Rabia, for US$2,000 to a man in Sheberghan city, Jawzjan Province in northern Afghanistan to feed his wife and three younger children.
[Listen to a radio version of this report in Dari]
With food prices in Afghanistan having soared over the past few months and the 40-year-old father unable to find work, he said he had no other choice but to sell his daughter to save his family from starvation.
“Even animals don’t sell their children, because they love them and want to die for them, not to mention human beings. For too many days I stood next to roads and asked people for work, but always ended up disappointed. I couldn’t go home empty-handed and disappoint my starving children, so I used to scavenge in garbage and collect leftover food.
“I would lie to my family and say I bought them food from the market. But now it’s even hard to find anything edible in the garbage because of food prices. People now eat all their food because it’s very expensive and also the numbers of those who scavenge in garbage has increased.
“Because I am illiterate, no one will give me a job. I am illiterate because of war and poverty. I didn’t go to school because my parents wanted me to work. My children also don't go to school and they’ll also be brought up illiterate like me.
''How can someone sell his own child? It’s like selling your eyes or selling your heart!''
“As no one would give me work I had no other option but to sell my lovely daughter. I sold her only to save the rest of my family. I sold her only to buy food for my younger children who otherwise would have died from hunger.
“I know people will say I am a cruel and merciless father who sold his own child, but those who say so don't know my hardship and have never felt the hunger that my family suffers.
“I know other poor people who don’t have children and say, if necessary, they will blow themselves up [in a suicide attack] and kill other people in order to feed their families.
“I hope the government will hear my voice and help people like me to find jobs and feed our families.”

A California man sold his 14-year-old daughter to an 18-year-old man for cash, beer and meat -- then called police when the prospective bridegroom didn't live up to his end of the deal, authorities said Tuesday.
Marcelino de Jesus Martinez, 36, of Greenfield, California, was arrested Monday and booked into the Monterey County Jail, Greenfield police said in a statement. He faces felony charges of receiving money for causing a person to cohabitate, police said.
Martinez had arranged through a third party to have his daughter marry the older teenager, identified by authorities as Margarito de Jesus Galindo, of Gonzales, California. In exchange, Galindo was to pay Martinez $16,000 and provide him with 160 cases of beer, 100 cases of soda, 50 cases of Gatorade, two cases of wine, and six cases of meat, Greenfield Police Chief Joe Grebmeier told CNN.

These stories of parents selling their children because of poverty makes me cry.
i saw women prostituting in the vacations weeks in poor countries because they could not feed their children lawfully made with their lawful husband, and coming back with diseases killing them, it truly made me cry too. They hated what they did.
And men exploiting their situations. To me, it is the same perpetuated story of power over someone.
I also saw parents wanting me very much to take their daughter in Canada with me, literally giving her to me, because they had seen me for a few months and knew that I was good and that thier daughter would have a much better chance with me. This made me cry too. They were ready for me to take her because they loved her so much. I could not, I was a student.

According to two 2013 reports, over 50% of all marriages in Pakistan involve girls less than 18 years old.[84][85] Another UNICEF report claims 70 per cent of girls in Pakistan are married before the age of 16.[86] As with India and Africa, the UNICEF data for Pakistan is from a small sample survey in 1990s.
The exact number of child marriages in Pakistan below the age of 13 is unknown, but rising according to the United Nations.[87] Andrew Bushell claims rate of marriage of 8 to 13 year old girls exceeding 50% in northwest regions of Pakistan.[88]
Another custom in Pakistan, called swara or vani, involves village elders solving family disputes or settling unpaid debts by marrying off girls. The average marriage age of swara girls is between 5 and 9.[86][89] Similarly, the custom of watta satta has been cited[90] as a cause of child marriages in Pakistan.
According to Population Council, 35% of all females in Pakistan become mothers before they reach the age of 18, and 67% have experienced pregnancy — 69% of these have given birth — before they reach the age of 19.[91] Less than 4% of married girls below the age of 19 had some say in choosing her spouse; over 80% were married to a near or distant relative. Child marriage and early motherhood is common in Pakistan.[92]... link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_marriage)
I'm afraid an Islamic country with 80,000 lepers, has very little say on when a child can marry...

Child marriage and early motherhood is common in Pakistan.
And has probably always been...
If the Catholic Church allows marriage at 14 years-old, why would the Islamic ideology allow it at a later date ? It makes no sense.
So after that, there is still India, Africa, South America, etc... (and they are not necessarily muslims or catholics), so what's the plan ?

When this Council of Islamic Ideology says to Pakistan they want no regulation on child brides, it's as if the Vatican would declare that going to the Church is mandatory for all Italians on Sunday. How would the Italians react ? They would laugh and say 'the Pope is mad'. Well, in my view, that's quite the same thing happening here, so to speak. And of course, the religious aspect is nothing compared to the economic aspect. Should the parents of the married children be rich, they'll never find someone to buy them and have no need to sell them either. The title of this thread is a fallacy. Period.

And how do you explain that:

Just in case anyone is curious about truth, this photo, circulating the Internet agains s NOT a photo of a mass wedding of “child brides” sponsored by Hamas (or anyone else).
The girls are not brides at all, the photo is taken completely out of context and was simply a celebration dinner for young girls and the men are fathers or other relatives, it has nothing to do with child marriage or anything of the sort.
This photo has been circulating since 2008-2009 and was combined with a story about a real mass wedding (which did NOT have any child participants) in order to twist people’s opinions and create division.
Lately the photo has been circulating again, this time accompanied by a story of an 8 year old Yemeni girl dying on her “wedding night” the story has not been verified by ANY mainstream, reputable news source and the accompanying photo is entirely false and purposely misleading.
So the question people should ask is: who would bother with such elaborate and continual false stories and to what end? Clearly the goal is to create division and an “us vs. them” attitude primarily between Westerners and Middle Eastern Arabs and Muslims but also division between other groups. Why?
There are certainly many who benefit from conflict and the current foreign policy of countries like the US. There are many who don’t want people to ask who is fighting and for what reason but to simply assume that its a battle of good versus evil, of decent people versus animals who rape and kill children. If you saw this photo and story and believed it, you are being played.
Do horrible things happen in the Arab world and Muslim countries? Of course, just like anywhere else — when we see these stories, in cases like this, the stories are often entirely false or a combination of half truths and manipulation– in the cases they do turn out to be true, like any cases of murder or domestic violence for any crazy motivation anywhere in the world we need to examine the statistical relevance.
What’s the harm in false stories like this? The division and misconceptions they reinforce lead directly to policies which end up killing innocent people based on false presences.
Don’t be scammed – before commenting on or sharing a story first verify its authenticity then ask what its statistic relevance is.

Council of Islamic Ideology declares women’s existence anti-Islamic
Columns CommentMARCH 15, 2014 BY KHABARISTAN TODAY
Islamabad - Sharia Correspondent:
IRAQUE WOMEN PROTESTING THE LAW
http://www.islam-watch.org/Assets/Yemeni-Women-protest-child-marriage-ban.jpg

Sir,
very few know who I am, or why I judge Islam so harshly, but I expect more.
the bible had a message for the church of Saudis, which are Muslims...
written hundreds of years before Mohammad met God...
women, were meant to be put on a pedestal, not used for door mats...
my bro, was King of the heart of the middle east, I think the 12 Shias have waited so long for, he was prophesied to bring the King to Islam, and he did...
it is not only time for middle east peace, but to bring together the lands as states to create a nation that protects the rights of all. no matter color, religion, or preference on mates, it isn't for us to judge, this is God's world, we're along for the ride.
you are all my brothers and sisters, I started fighting to protect children, and God noticed, asking me to deliver a message for Islam...
have any of you wondered why God gave us 3 different Holy days?
it's so we all have time to have services at the dome...
no restrictions, the Dome stands for peace between all men and women.
I have seen many changes since I delivered the first few messages to Islam, I am proud, and the spirit of God is in me, so He is also
like me or not, I have the ears that can listen, and a being willing to share messages with the world.
I bow to you all, not worthy of what I share, but afraid of what might happen if I don't.
I've seen the fist of God kill a million, but saw his kindness save a billion...
life is so precious to me, I've fought for kids, I want all of you to help me protect all of them
when 2.5 million babies in Africa suddenly had aids, it was found a rumor spread, sex with a baby, cured aids...
we need to brush aside the lies, in our hearts we know the answer without guidance.

From what I understand the Council of Islamic Ideology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Islamic_Ideology) (aka CII -- website here (http://www.cii.gov.pk/)) is a constitutionally formed group that advises the Government of Pakistan on what it views as important aspects of Islamic Law as it pertains to Government legislation.
The Pakistan Today appears to be a real paper and there are ample other examples of this story from around the same period (edit: though, as stated above, this article is taken from a satirical column of the Pakistan Today).
There has also been a backlash against various comments to come out of the CII over the last year. The below article is about the Sindh Assembly (a provincial Pakistan government) that is calling for the dissolution of the CII.
Not everybody living in the Middle East is the "consciousness" equivalent of a 'kimodo dragon'. Nor is every Muslim a fundamentalist.
Sometimes things that seem obvious to me just need to be said.
Next, I don't understand how some groups of Muslims can be so anti-women.
Muhammad had no money and limited prospects until he caught the eye of an older woman. He was 25 and she was a 45 year old widow who was also a wealthy business owner. She took him in, bore his children and paid his way. Her name was Khadija bint Khuwaylid and (after Muhammad of course) she was the first Muslim. She defended & looked after him until her death (aged ~65) and then their daughter, Fatima, took over looking after Muhammad until his, well whatever, and then she died a couple months later. As far as I understand it this is straight Islamic doctrine. This ain't fringe stuff which is contestable... Yeah, there's a bit more to it, but surprising not that much more really.
If anyone knows more on why or how some Muslims can justify being so anti-women then please clear it up because it's a bit confusing (no evangelising please).
Anyway, here's the article on the Sindh Assembly I mentioned above.

Instead of solving issues, CII is creating divisions and more confusion in the minds of people, states the resolution. PHOTO: PPI
KARACHI: Irrespective of their political differences, the lawmakers of Sindh have not only criticised the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), but have also tabled a resolution calling for the dissolution of the council entirely.
The assembly showed strong reservations about the recent recommendations of the CII that, they believe, reveal a complete indifference and insensitivity towards women.
“No minimum age for marriage, recommendations against DNA testing for rape cases and no requirement of the wife’s consent for a second marriage are recommendations by the council’s head that are regressive and anti-women,” states the resolution, which was moved by Mahtab Akbar Rashdi, an MPA from the Pakistan Muslim League — Functional (PML-F).
The resolution also states, “It looks like instead of solving the issues, the CII is creating divisions and more confusion in the minds of people.”
The resolution recommends that the council should be done away with since it is unable to perform a positive role.
In her speech, Rashdi said, “If 18 years is the mandatory age for ID cards and driving licenses then why can’t the same age limit be fixed for marriage? Our society cannot tolerate child marriages in this modern world.”
Syed Sardar Ahmed of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) said that the council, which was established under Article 228 of the constitution, cannot impose its decision.
“The government should appoint those members of the council who have proper knowledge of religion and traditions,” he said.
Irfanullah Marwat of the Pakistan Muslim League — Nawaz (PML-N) also stated that the CII should be done away with entirely.
During the Sindh Assembly session, the issue of rape cases in Karachi and other districts was also raised by assembly members who demanded that to make DNA testing mandatory and usable as evidence in rape cases.
“We will not defer to CII’s recommendations and we want to making DNA testing mandatory,” said Dr Sikandar Mandhro, the minister for parliamentary affairs.

On the scale of consciousness, with a rock being zero and Jesus or Buddha being 1,000, the general population of the Middle East is around 40 to 70. A kimodo dragon is around 40 also. And we try and negotiate and bargain with these "people"?
Your comment should not even been made Conk. This has nothing to do with the people as such. This has to do with a bunch of psychopath taking the power and doing what they want. In those countries, the power is first of all religious. In USA it is political except for some states where it is religious as well (i could not resist lol, my comment is as out place as yours).
By the way, did you know that most people in numerous countries nowadays think exactly the same as what you wrote, but for Americans. How does it make you feel? Does it leads to any solutions?
Flash, your comment is born of ignorance. My assertion was proven by MILLIONS of experiments over a period of 30 years by the unmistakable champion of consciousness, Dr. David Hawkins.
Edit: Sorry, I should not have used the word ignorance. It just sounds like an insult. Of course I meant 'not aware'.
It is time to learn to treat humans as more than komodo dragons or any other animal, this way of thinking leads nowhere except to war and hatred.
edited: i do not like the way women are considered in most parts of the world, with an emphasis on the Muslim and Asian world were women count for often about nothing, however I won't generalise either having sat for example with the wonderful mathematic teacher my daughter had yesterday as a tutor, who is an Arab men and many other encounters of such quality. And I would certainly not put them at the animal spiritual levels.
I can admit being guilty of an improper generalization. I agree totally about the radical element. Not much disagreement between us.

We all know the council is in trouble, but the satirical part of the story is the statement women don't have a right to exist, so please remove yourselves...
it is important to know the press has enough freedom to publish something so outrageous it gets people talking and thinking, even the cave men...

Until yesterday I didn't know the Council existed, let alone that it was "in trouble".
There is a danger in making outrageous claims though. Yes, they can get people thinking/talking but equally they can push legitimate problems and claims to the fringe to be ignored by the vast majority of people who might have been interested. Notice I said "might have been interested". My reason is that lots of people are busy just trying to survive day to day and don't have the time to engage with an array of material and information (especially if it's from a culture foreign to their own). This leaves material, that to some would appear outrageous, reinforcing the differences between cultures as a barrier to understanding (ie Othering (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other)) as opposed to engaging diverse groups in discussion.
Cavepan eat food now.

This kind of propaganda is Incitement to ethnic or racial hatred (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incitement_to_ethnic_or_racial_hatred). Did you read the comments that follow the photo posted by OP ? Pure Islamophobia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamophobia). Here are some examples:
Perhaps a mega-ton H-bomb over Mecca would partly solve the problem ?
My husbands sentiments exactly...get shot of the majority and we can then work on the minority
But wait until their there for the pilgrimage. more bang for the buck.
Just nuke the fuking lot of em
:tsk:
Edit: FYI, the photo was posted in 2013 by the Iraqi Women's League :

Iraqi women confirm the photo is a "ritual Alttber" and has nothing to do with child brides.

Now, how stupid is that:
Hey look, Christians are crucifying their own kids, they are pure evil, Christian children should have the right not to be crucified. We must nuke the Vatican and the all lot of them...

I was wrong. I made a mistake and the Pakistan Today article is a satire.
I still have no idea how some members of a religion that was financed and supported by women in its beginnings can now be so anti-women. I know it's only certain groups but still it makes very little sense to me.
Anyway, I hate getting it wrong and just wanted to point out that I did. Apologies.

In that case Pan, please change your post 51, correct it, where you say it is not a satire. We come upon it and think the research is thorough (because it does look like it) and that it is definitely not a satire. It pushes us on the wrong mind track. Thanks

All done. :)
What happened was I had been researching the newly introduced Saudi Arabian Anti-Terrorism laws which outlaw almost everything and then came across the OP. A review and check of the paper indicated it to be valid and then I started reading reactions elsewhere to various CII declarations and ended up with the very real article 'Sindh Assembly calls for dissolution of CII'. I was a bit wary of the original articles content (though wasn't sure if a language problem was involved) which was why I went back and investigated the original articles author etc. That is what I should have done in the beginning but my introduction to the article & CII happened within the context of the extreme Saudi legislation which is so ambiguous that it removes every right to protest or even question anything the Government does is a terrorist act. It is an act of terrorism to question Islamic belief. It is not even clear if it makes discussion of certain subjects an offence or if a Saudi citizen were to access Avalon (for example) they would not be classified as a terrorist. (BTW I haven't been able to find an English translation of the complete legislation as of yet, it is the Saudi 'Penal Law for Crimes of Terrorism and its Financing' if anyone finds one).
So within that context reading the allegations made against the CII in the quoted article (and knowing some of the recent history in Pakistan, though not the body responsible [ie the CII]) it all seemed quite realistic at just after midnight.
Again, apologies.

When the marriageable age under a law of a religious community is lower than that under the law of the land, the state law prevails

The NWO wants one marriageable age for all. So what should it be ? The global consensus seems to be 18 (way too young in my opinion for a decision of a lifetime but I should not underestimate the power of love). I hope one day we won't need to set a 'marriageable age' anymore because love will prevail and everyone will be able to marry their loved one when they decide to do so and not because of some other reason.
