The Fort Hood military base in Texas is locked down amid reports of a possible shooting at the installation.
We should stress right now that the shooting is unconfirmed at this time. But Fort Hood’s Web site is urging people to shelter in place immediately, something followed up by this tweet.
KCEN is reporting an active shooter situation at the base, though we have not independently confirmed that report.
Update: 1 dead, 4 injured, via http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/04/02/search-for-active-shooter-on-fort-hood-base/

Interesting, Fort Hood is on a direct line from New York City through Waco, TX. Fort Hood also had a shooting on 11/05/2009.

Shooting at US Army's Fort Hood base in Texas

Lt Gen Mark Milley describes the final moments before the gunman shot himself
A shooting at the US Army's Fort Hood base in Texas has left four people dead -
including a gunman who died from self-inflicted wounds - and 16 injured.The
suspect's name is known but next of kin have not yet been informed, military
officials said.President Barack Obama said he was "heartbroken" over the attack.
A gun rampage at the same base in 2009 left 13 soldiers dead and 32 wounded.
Maj Nidal Hasan was sentenced to death for that attack.
'Sacrifice'
The all-clear has now sounded at the base and cars are leaving the complex.
US military spokesman Lt Gen Mark Milley told reporters that there was so far no
indication that the shootings were related to terrorism but it had not been ruled out.
Gen Milley said that the suspect had served in Iraq and was being assessed to see
if he had post-traumatic stress disorder. He said that the gunman was suffering
from depression and anxiety.

It had nothing to do with terrorism, as far as I've been able to discover. It had everything to do with PTSD and how we treat combat veterans. A couple of guys had a bad quarrel in the motor pool, which resulted in an Iraq vet going postal.

Yes, don't argue with the obvious. A discussion of the common thread found in nearly all mass shooting incidents.

Mental illness may have played a significant role in the Wednesday shooting at Fort Hood,
Texas early reports are suggesting. Ivan Lopez killed three soldiers and then himself
Wednesday evening at the same base that experienced a mass shooting that took the
lives of 13 individuals in 2009. An Iraq war veteran, Lopez was being treated for depression
and anxiety, common psychological problems among veterans. Investigators are looking
into whether posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may have also played a role, and whether
there were potential warning signs leading up to the shooting. RT's Ramon Galindo in
Los Angeles brings Ameera David the latest details on the shooting.

A brief history of military trauma, up to and including our own...
Ivan Lopez's friendly smile apparently gave no hint of a history of depression, anxiety and other psychiatric disorders.
The Iraq war veteran was being evaluated for post-traumatic stress
disorder before he opened fire at the Fort Hood Army post in Texas on Wednesday.
Lopez took his own .45-caliber handgun onto the sprawling facility and killed three people and wounded 16 more before taking his own life. His death left authorities to piece together what in his background and medical treatment could have triggered a new round of bloodshed at the same Killeen post where an officer killed 13 people in 2009.
