Russia will not import GMO products, the country’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said, adding that the nation has enough space and resources to produce organic food.
Moscow has no reason to encourage the production of genetically modified products or import them into the country, Medvedev told a congress of deputies from rural settlements on Saturday.

“If the Americans like to eat GMO products, let them eat it then. We don’t need to do that; we have enough space and opportunities to produce organic food,” he said.
The prime minister said he ordered widespread monitoring of the agricultural sector. He added that despite rather strict restrictions, a certain amount of GMO products and seeds have made it to the Russian market.

Earlier, agriculture minister Nikolay Fyodorov also stated that Russia should remain free of genetically modified products.

At the end of February, the Russian parliament asked the government to impose a temporary ban (http://rt.com/politics/russian-duma-gmo-moratorium-804/) on all genetically altered products in Russia.

The State Duma’s Agriculture Committee supported a ban on the registration and trade of genetically modified organisms. It was suggested that until specialists develop a working system of control over the effects of GMOs on humans and the natural environment, the government should impose a moratorium on the breeding and growth of genetically modified plants, animals, and microorganisms.

Earlier this month, MPs of the parliamentary majority United Russia party, together with the ‘For Sovereignty’ parliamentary group, suggested an amendment of the existing law On Safety and Quality of Alimentary Products, with a norm set for the maximum allowed content of transgenic and genetically modified components.

There is currently no limitation on the trade or production of GMO-containing food in Russia. However, when the percentage of GMO exceeds 0.9 percent, the producer must label such goods and warn consumers. Last autumn, the government passed a resolution allowing the listing of genetically modified plants in the Unified State Register. The resolution will come into force in July.

Thank goodness someone has seen sense, and have they got rid of any MacDonalds in their country now? Instant indigestion removed at last!

yay Russia!

p.s. the trick w/ McDonald's is buy a snack not a meal.
i.e. buy a large coffee and a small burger if you have to have it. lol :(

in Europe and Asia why would anyone want McD's though?
even Borsch is better.

p.s. dear Russia, please do something about the runaway vaccine industry,
it's destroying my race, sincerely, tesla

There are McDo's in Russia, however I read somewhere they run into a lot of troubles with garnishing their burgers with vegetables... no bulk purchases possible since they had to negotiate with hundreds or thousands of "gardeners" to get the necessary quantities delivered... :)

That is awesome :-)

Here in the UK every blade of grass is monetised by Goldman Sachs, er sorry, Westminster and have blatantly said the future is factory farming which is driving extremely hard the need for fracking enforced by the threat of war with Russia. A humungous false flag or prerequisite for "World War III".

By the way, "World War III" will NOT be a global war in the conventional terms. It will be controlled genocide.

All sides need their satelites for peeking and targeting, in the air under ground, all over the place. So unless the satelites are destroyed, which should be the first strike then all else is "already agreed".

Anyways, food supplies world wide soon are going to be in short supply, Russia appears to be holding a lot of good cards in its hand. Maybe that was the plan all the time, in fact, the table was always rigged.

This kind of decision should be followed by all countries around the world. It's only proof that finally someone uses the good sense and brain to decide what's important for their citizens health. We need more examples like this one.
Go ahead Russia!

I wonder how many billions more dollars we can cost the Frankenindustry.

Screw those windbags!!! They invested in failure. Our failure!

first of all @avid-

the first country to rid itself of McDonalds (all three of them) was Iceland which was the first country (hopefully not the last) to oust and jail its banksters; a few yrs. ago a former Icelandic co-worker of mine stated to me the greatest achievement Iceland has accomplished was not only jailing its banksters but ridding itself of McDonalds- but of course McDonalds only folded in Iceland (the country that imports almost everything except fish and lamb) because the price of importing things like something as simple as onions (see above under concept McDonalds and its mafia) became just so outrageously priced people refused to deal with it anymore (like McDonalds proprietors in Iceland) and McDonalds (all three of them) folded- Iceland is a tiny country with a population of ca. 340k-

as for Russia: if one is not yet aware of the BRICSA financial m'vt one might want to inform oneself about this because all of these countries are fighting against GMOs- it is absolutely huge- Joseph Farrell's research on this topic is a an incredibly firm start-

please be well all-

Pfft! What do you mean "Borscht is even better!" -- Borscht is awesome and super healthy! A little fact, Borscht directly translated pretty much just means "soup" and there are many, many variations across Europe. I assume you are referring to "beet borscht" which is my least favourite of the borschts. There is a cabbage borscht as well, but the all time winner of the borschts is a simple potato, dill soup based on a smoked ham (or vegetable) broth - easy to make and absolutely to die for - in low German (a dialect) it is called Zumma Borscht (summer soup). North American german Mennonites are likely the ones who are most familiar with the particular version I am speaking of ...

Recipe here! http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-life/food/zumma-borscht-ladles-out-rich-mix-of-tastes-140836353.html -- note the second with sour cream in it is closer to the one I grew up with -- I prefer buttermilk as opposed to the sour cream, and kale for the greens slivers - you can even leave these out.

Seriously good, healthy, soup.

We now return you to your regular scheduled thread topic :)

French parliament bans genetically modified maize (http://rt.com/news/french-ban-gm-maize-736/)

Published time: April 15, 2014 22:07

http://cdn.rt.com/files/news/25/4a/00/00/21.si.jpg Reuters / Karl Plume

France’s lower house of parliament passed a law Tuesday prohibiting genetically modified (GM) maize from being grown, citing environmental concerns. The law can be applied to any GM strain that is adopted at EU level.

The law follows a decree last month, which halted the planting of Monsanto’s insect-resistant maize MON810, which will be allowed for cultivation in the EU, Reuters reported.

But if any strain of GM crop is adopted in the future at EU level – including Pioneer 1507, which was developed by DuPont and Dow Chemical – it will be subsequently banned in France.

Pioneer 1507 could be approved by the EU later this year, after 19 of the 28 EU member states failed to gather enough votes to block it.

The law adopted Tuesday by France's lower house (National Assembly) is similar to one rejected by the upper house (Senate) in February, which was seen as unconstitutional.

“It is essential today to renew a widely shared desire to maintain the French ban. This bill strengthens the decree passed last March by preventing the immediate cultivation of GMO and extending their reach to all transgenic maize varieties” Jean Marie Le Guen, the minister in charge of relations with parliament, told the National Assembly.

The current Socialist-led government in France, like the previous conservative one, has opposed the growing of GM crops because of public suspicion and protests by environmentalists.

Le Guen called for an EU system that would make sure that the decisions of member states not to adopt GM crops could not be challenged legally.

A debate on the future of EU policy is going on at EU level, with the European Commission suggesting an opt-out that would allow individual countries to ban GM crops.

The French ban on GM maize will now have to go to the Senate for approval. However, even if it is rejected again, the National Assembly will have the final say.

While France is against genetically modified crops, the UK argues that without them, Europe risks becoming “the museum of world farming.” Spain also says its own farmers have to be able to compete with those outside the EU – many of whom are growing GM crops.

GM crops, though still unpopular in Europe, are widely grown in the US and Asia.

Its a war for the minds of the people, a war to control our perceptions. Unbiased media is now an indangered species, even on the internet sadly. We keep our minds as own own, we win the war!!! Also, it'll be interesting to see how the crops deal with the day when geoengineering stops, many experts believe that could lead to paralysis of the jet streams completely disrupting global agriculture.....causing a bit of a starvation issue

How Monsanto Annihilated A Paradise & Turned It Into An Island Of Illness (http://www.collective-evolution.com/2014/04/25/how-monsanto-annihilated-a-paradise-turned-it-into-an-island-of-illness/)

April 25, 2014 by Joe Martino (http://www.collective-evolution.com/author/joe/).

http://cdn2.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2014/04/MolokaiSeacliffs-300x224.jpg

A beautiful island in Hawaii called Molokai has been subject to biotech giant Monsanto for some time now and the results of Monsanto’s actions on the island is beginning to show very dark conclusions. The residents of the island of Molokai seem to be getting sicker and sicker as Monsanto continually carries out their actions near villages on the island. Some are suggesting the island has become a laboratory and the islanders are the lab rats being tested. Although not enough study has been done to find out why the rates of illness, cancer, asthma and diabetes are suddenly rising greatly on the island, many believe the evidence is anecdotal and seen when you observe the people.

Monsanto leased 1850 acres of land on the island of Molokai to grow their Bt corn crops. The very fact they are merely leasing the land already raises the question as to whether or not they know the land will become of low quality once they are finished with it. The Bt toxin Monsanto uses is engineered into corn to allow farmers easy control over pests without spraying as much pesticides. Only there seems to be growing evidence that this Bt toxin is a threat to human health. (http://www.collective-evolution.com/?s=Bt+toxin)

http://cdn3.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2014/04/Molokai_1.jpg

Although The State Health Department has stated they feel the farming practices are safe, nearby residents are not happy about what’s going on and strongly feel Monsanto’s practices are causing harm and illness to those especially close to where Monsanto is spraying. Many in the area are beginning to do the research and are connecting the dots that the recent rise in illnesses is directly related to what Monsanto’s Bt toxin and Glyphosate (http://www.collective-evolution.com/?s=glyphosate) has been known to cause.

This isn’t the first time residents of cities or villages near Monsanto farming territories have stood up with concern after they had noticed increased health issues once Monsanto had moved in. Farmers in Argentina had also raised their concerns and people in India raised awareness about not only the health effects but the potential damages to the environment. In France farmer Paul Francois won his court case against Monsanto as the courts found Monsanto was guilty of chemical poisoning. (http://www.collective-evolution.com/2013/05/31/monsanto-found-guilty-of-chemical-poisoning-in-france/)

A report published by Thanal, an environmental organization based in Kerala, India, stated that Monsanto’s glyphosate causes both health and environmental issues. Something the WHO and other organizations have denied for years. [1]
“As the acute toxicity – reflected in the WHO classification of glyphosate is low, it has long been promoted as safe. However, recent evidence shows substantial adverse health and environmental effects, especially of the formulated products… Recent experiences and studies show a wide range of long-term adverse health effects, again mostly related to formulated products, such as leukemia and other cancers, skin diseases, and birth defects, gastrointestinal problems, and alterations to the central nervous system. Other findings link glyphosate and especially formulations with affecting embryo development, damage cells and DNA, and interrupting the hormone system.”
As more independent and integral studies take place, more evidence is piling up to show the dangers associated with GMO’s. Even respected names such as David Suzuki (http://www.collective-evolution.com/2013/11/25/geneticist-david-suzuki-says-humans-are-part-of-a-massive-genetic-experiment/) has raised his concerns about GMO’s claiming that humanity is part of “a massive experiment (http://www.collective-evolution.com/2013/11/25/geneticist-david-suzuki-says-humans-are-part-of-a-massive-genetic-experiment/)” when it comes to GMO’s.

Sayer Ji (https://www.facebook.com/greenmedinfo) of Green Med Info (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/) also linked evidence between breast cancer and RoundUp, one of Monsanto’s most popular pesticides.[2]
”An alarming new study finds that glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup weedkiller, is estrogenic and drives breast cancer cell proliferation in the parts-per-trillion range.”

http://cdn3.collective-evolution.com/assets/uploads/2014/04/monsanto_molokai3.jpg

What’s happening in Molokai has happened in many other areas of the world and is not something that can continue if we want to have safe food and a healthy environment. GMO crops are being banned in many areas around the world but North America still lacks the political integrity to make the move.

The annual March Against Monsanto (https://www.facebook.com/MarchAgainstMonstanto) is set to take place on May 24th, 2014. A tradition that has already done so much for raising awareness about GMO’s and the dangers associated with them. Many believe the March Against Monsanto helped to stop the Monsanto Protection Act, a bill passed by Obama that would protect Monsanto from being able to be charged for any health or environmental damages they cause.

Let’s raise some awareness and continue to work to stop Monsanto. You can also begin by growing some of your own food! (http://www.collective-evolution.com/2014/04/06/how-to-build-a-50-greenhouse-in-your-yard-free-plans/) You don’t even need a garden!
