"It may be the end of the Internet as we know it. That was the reaction from consumer advocates and some websites after the Federal Communications Commission announced new rules governing Internet service on Thursday. The rules effectively put an end to net neutrality, or the idea that all web traffic should be treated equally."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The nation's top telecoms regulator is proposing to allow a pay-for-priority fast lane on the Internet for movies, music and other services to get to people's homes.

The proposed rules come after a federal appeals court struck down previous "net neutrality" rules designed to prevent Internet access providers such as Comcast from discriminating against certain traffic flowing to their customers.

Under the proposal, an access provider could demand that high-traffic services such as Netflix pay for preferential treatment. The proposal would include safeguards to make sure the arrangements don't harm consumers or stifle competition and free speech.

Because of that, FCC officials insist it's not a departure from past policy. However, it would now permit something the FCC had discouraged under the old rules.

Consumer advocates say the proposed system would inevitably allow deep-pocketed Internet giants like Netflix, Google and Facebook to maintain their edge over startups because they can pay to ensure snappier connections and clearer, uninterrupted video.

It could result in higher prices for consumers who pay for Netflix and similar online services, as the cost of speedier treatment could be passed on. It also could create a new revenue stream for Internet service providers like Comcast or Verizon.

The draft rules kick off a policymaking process that involves commissioner votes and a public comment period before a final vote sometime this summer.

Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) host of The Young Turks breaks down this very bad news. Is this the end of a free and equal internet? Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

This has already existed form quite some time, in my experience.

Personally, the idea that ISP's (Internet Service Providers, such as the local cable company) can sell higher speed access for extra fees, but not be allowed to discriminate between the various "no extra fee paid" data sources, seems reasonable to me.

Of course, I entirely trust that the actual implementation will not seem reasonable to me. But the "cover story" that the FCC (US Fed Communication Commission) has put on this doesn't upset me.

Similarly, I would expect to have to pay extra to my local electric power company for the necessary infrastructure, if I wanted to feed a couple of megawatts to some seriously powerful computers (dang ... that would look nice in my living room :)).

Yep.. we will see things like this one more and more over any internet services.
An interesting issue is happening in In Brazil:

Brazilian Congress passes Internet bill of rights:

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/04/23/us-internet-brazil-idUSBREA3M00Y20140423

Are they awakening or just one more attempt to rowing against the global tide in pre-elections season's ?

I noticed the same thing about hi-res ads and stuff, and ads being loaded before my content, etc.

even on sites like Ebay and this one, lol, without Ghostery or Noscript it's like molasses in January.
i need to get Ghostery working again.

Variable internet speeds are not necessarily due to local ISP interference.

Most major websites have many servers scattered over major portions of the world. The speed with which a page loads will depend on how close you are to the actual server they assigned you for that page, and how strong the internet backbone is between there and your local ISP, as well as other complicating factors.

Trying break Netflix, google has been trying to obtain Netflix because Youtube is bugged with NSA that removes videos, and people are choosing Netflix over Hulu, Google, You tube, and other various live and stream sites. If we boycott Netflix because of this merger, it sinks Netflix and all the others that google own move up the movie net chain. Netflix is rocking, and they want to charge them for the popularity. The joined up with Time Warner in the cable business and now want to take it all. Everywhere we go they will be up our business like never before. I believe it's time for boycotts people. They are simply linking all the companies to seize every dime in the entertainment alley. Greed for information is insatiable, so we have to make the decision. I hate to do it to net flix, but ...looks like Red box will be the next move. As far as coming here, they look at the traffic, and we just hit 20 million. They've put a price on fb, and they'll put a price on their own parents. Ooops, they already have.

Time to NOT let then in our business for 30 days to break them. They go by quarter you know, perhaps 2 or 3 months and since the summer is almost here, we should sparingly /cautiously check in from time to time. But tis the only way, to make them back down. They've already done it, fine, let us do what needs to be done. The congress allowing the FCC do this should be made to know, that although our research and development dollars paid for this reverse engineering and stolen UFO technology, we on['t play the game of "peek-a-boo" every step we make on the net, nor be bombarded by advertising crap or personal id snatches. Remember every time google goes, all of a sudden there's a hack on someone's personal account info. Lets think about it, time it perfect where we peep, and go. I know it's safer to be here but, we don't have to allow them into every aspect of our soul. My thingy is if Time Warner already bought the cable companies, and already have the internet service of speed(sure hurry up and start moving so we can snoop) it's just another corporate takeover of tbtf, and we'll have to break them. Google I mean. If they keep persisting. I already avoid their search bar ast all cost, so they don't track me and erase history that they can back data on."we must slap the hand, say no, no, no, and remove them off the party list from now on." LOL

Mature souls don't get angry, they just don't participate in the bs, eh?
They pull our chain, we yank their leash/leases on the businesses by boycotting that over billed cable that they promised with more subscriptions the price would drop. They only meant for a few months in deals, but WE meant the actual price of the information on television that is shutting our freedom of speech, freedom of on time news, because they bombard us with propagandic lies. So listen people it's not rocket science, these guys are used to getting what they want. Every try to tell a spoiled rich kid NO? They lose it, and then the behavior like a boil, bursts with all kinds of nasty greed possessed Pundit stock holder crapola.
Its really just another scope up the gazoo. They are going to ruin Netflix because they are the corporate spy hackers and can't get into our heads to function. Even there spy computer that is gaining strength in putting everyone in a particular box or label.

I don't trust them, and I will react accordingly, when they are in my internet pocket.

What do you say people/huemans?:typing: Do we shut down the internet subscriptions by 20 million or so world wide, for a few months and drop their stocks in a bucket of piss where this neutrality bill is? If they have no customers, they can't place ads and it will show on the balance sheets across the world. They want to go global, WE go global also, eh?:wizard:

It certainly would show them we are wide awake and watching them like a hawk.

How a bout a Memorial day through Independence Day shut down during the summer, so Wall Street sh** their greedy stock share pants, as they go broke?

I just was on twitter and it's gonna go world wide. :amen::rockon::mad2::yuck:

I hope NETFLIX goes global and cuts the American Greedy Wall Street people out. They tried to block Netflix by slowing their streaming, but the people just waited for it to buffer enough. Then they got someone else that speeded it up by 65% which is great. Comcast has connections to NSA and they have search bars that snoop with goggles. They want to make Netflix kneel, beg to be a consumer affordable outlet when people can't afford the "high end bs peddling propaganda channels on cable. If I had to pay 1300.00 a year for tv, I'd throw away the set or use it for video games/Mario Sunshine World/Tiger Woods Golf.

Looks like it's Red Box, and video games until they get out of our pockets again. There will be many tempting "offers" of 19.99 for 6 months major channels for 3, but you are being tempted by the savings of a price that never dropped. They said they would lower the price to 12.00 monthly if enough subscribers signed on. THEY LIED FOR 40 YEARS.:smow::biggrin1:

WE had free tv, they put a price on our boredom and it took off. WE got fat, we got docile, as they fed us whatever they wanted to shovel, for years. Tell you one thing to support it, then kick you in the butt for believing them. Smaller font on contracts, and professional liars in the ads. Just look at the drug pharm pushers that get top billing on their stations with the commercial 45 second, they use 40 of those seconds, explaining the side effects. Don't believe me, watch one with a clock that has a second hand. Seriously, it's sickening. "WE know this will kill you long term, but take it anyway for the headache, and we'll get back to you when you get renal failure or liver toxins overdose, or hemmoraging or heart attack, or stomach cramps and suicidal behavior.

Ha! I'm no turnip, that fell off the truck, and is gonna get run over by the wheels.

I'm gonna roll out the truth on all their greedy intentions and make them look like the "greedy corporate beasts" they are.

Yo, I hope your avatar, isn't a cry for help. If so, you've come to the right place. If this boycott hops off, gain some friends here with personal tele number or something. It's as bad as it looks, but we are their worst nightmare. So buck up little buckaroo, you're in loving arms.;)

Hey, I could live in Brazil. Really I could and would love to be there as a vacation, just to see the worlds biggest or was the biggest ecosystem, exotic birds, and lovely ferned foliage. Mosquitos must be a beast, but the net suits are pretty good if you wear light gloves to see them land on exposed hands while climbing one of the multiple mountains.
Oh, poo, I forgot. With the warming of the planet, via Nibiru or global carbonization of the atmosphere plus volcanos, the mosquito pop will increase with the rising waters that flood areas, creating disease risk of malaria and encephalitis. Nets and screens peeps are the survival tool of the future. Swamps and new river lines drawn by the Creator's hand as he turns this place up side down and shakes the vermin off like fleas in the hind end of a dog.

Maybe I'll just pitch a tent, and wait for the inner voice to tell me when and where to move before the next strike? I have to stock up on more filtered water. I bought a filter, and used the water I had for garden seedlings/my babies.;)
Wow, I just checked my posts, and there are a lot of emotions flowing right now, glad it's almost the Sabbath.:dizzy:
Purge and pray people! Purge and pray.

I'm going solar. LOL Tired of dirty energy in my pocket and poisoning our future. Back packs first, and then a panel or two for necessities, they have roll out/flexible ones.
Utility companies are politically donating to the dirty oil, coal, and fracking surface gas companies, and destroying the very ground we walk on. No telling if they are side drilling to tap into oil reserves that are public lands for US. That is why they are privatizing parks and such, to take the resources and leave the grounds worse off in toxicity of streams, springs, and other natural beauty Creator gave us. How many times do we have to tell those "droid greedy corporate people" that the flesh and blood people need air and water WITHOUT A PRICE ON IT. WE don't want our spring water/really tap water to be on the shelf, but out of the natural God's good earth purifiers in our aquafirs, for our children and the future use of all who live on the planet.

Another thingy. I suggested here at PA, that the earth maybe expanding to accommodate the rising sea levels occurring. With all the volcanic activity below and above ground making new islands and stuff. Well there was an article by a channel, that stated this very thing. Mother Earth is expanding to accommodate the populations, and the sea level risings. Purified soils are raining down on toxic areas of industry or sinking them entirely to replace them with new. Those who own those industries are gonna take a deep, deep dive in their businesses. As deep as the sink holes, we've seen. What are those holes for. Did ET build them in case of Canary Island tsunami to drain the water as it crashes on shore? Hmm... I think so. With all the turning when the switch/shift actually happens, there are gonna have to be "lots of drains to suck it into the lower cavities of land.

Just tossing stuff around/sorting through a lot of info today. Loving it. Purge baby, purge.

Have a lovely day before storms on east coast, and before spring rains on the west. Love you guys.

To me getting the information faster , doesn't change the information , it just teaches people Don't be patient, spend more money , you shouldn't have to wait for something , it's the now generation ... you know I kinda feel like it's the ole trap , How can we get more money doing the same thing we've been doing ...

Yep. Apparently Comcast has started capping our data usage now too. If you exceed like 300 gigabytes you get charged extra and slowed down. RIDICULOUS. What can we do? I mean... is it really feasible to stop having the internet? Ugh. They know it isn't. And they know they have a monopoly in many towns and cities.

That happens to me if and only if I have left the web browser tab for that Youtube page open for several hours or more before starting to view the video.

My hunch is that when you load a Youtube page, its servers start to cache that video and hand you a cookie or some such token as a handle to that cache stream.

If you finally ask to start viewing that video, hours later, that token might have gone stale, and you need to first refresh the page to get a new token.

Just a hunch ...

hey zaya well if u have it in u , why not put out a message on social media if ur on that, (im not) or make some flyers and post them locally near where you live, or post a message somewhere, and start a anti-cable group and organize it , and well stop using or once organized, call and make plans to change providers or stop it all together for a month, i bet most folks cant get off the net for more than 3 days, heck if i dont have to or dont feel i want to know something, i just dont open my laptop, sometimes it stays dormant for weeks, i just work on my garden or do stuff outside, or i use the local antenna for local digital channels (which are free) if u can bring the signal in, try that stand up, and help bring down cable and internet costs, at least trying may do something to wake those folks up....just a thought, peace, dennis

Here's an article that makes a good case that this FCC ruling is dangerous to the long term freedom of the Internet. It anticipates that ISP's will put most of their investment into the higher profit pipelines, and let the existing "free" Internet decay: How the FCC Plans to Save the Internet By Destroying It (https://medium.com/p/7805f8049503)
