Fluoride’s neurotoxicity has been the subject of academic debate for decades, and now a matter of increasingly impassioned controversy among the general public, as well. From ‘conspiracy theories’ about it being first used in drinking water in Russian and Nazi concentration camps to chemically lobotomize captives, to its now well-known IQ lowering properties, to its ability to enhance the calcification of the pineal gland – the traditional ‘seat of the soul’ – many around the world, and increasingly in the heavily fluoridated regions of the United States, are starting to organize at the local and statewide level to oust this ubiquitous toxicant from municipal drinking water.

Now, a new study published in the Pharmacognosy Magazine titled, “Curcumin attenuates neurotoxicity induced by fluoride: An in vivo evidence,” adds experimental support to the suspicion that fluoride is indeed a brain-damaging substance, also revealing that a natural spice-derived protective agent against the various health effects associated with this compound is available.

The study was authored by researchers from the Department of Zoology, University College of Science, M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur, India, who have spent the past decade investigating the mechanisms through which fluoride induces severe neurodegenerative changes in the mammalian brain, particularly in cells of the hippocampus and cerebral cortex.[i] [ii]

The study opens by describing the historical backdrop for concern about fluoride’s significant and wide ranging toxicity:

“Fluoride (F) is probably the first inorganic ion which drew attention of the scientific world for its toxic effects and now the F toxicity through drinking water is well-recognized as a global problem. Health effect reports on F exposure also include various cancers, adverse reproductive activities, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases.[1,2]“

The study focused on fluoride induced neurotoxicity, identifying excitoxicity (stimulation of the neuron to the point of death) and oxidative stress as the two main drivers of neurodegeneration. It has been observed that subjects with the condition known as fluorosis, a mottling of tooth enamel caused by excessive exposure to fluoride during tooth development, also have neurodegenerative changes associated with a form of oxidative stress known as lipid peroxidation (rancidity). Excess lipid peroxidation in the brain can lead to a decrease in total brain phospholipid content. Owing to these well-known mechanisms of fluoride associated neurotoxicity and neurodegeneration, the researchers identified the primary polyphenol in the spice turmeric — known as curcumin – as an ideal agent worth testing as a neuroprotective substance. Previous research on curcumin indicates that it is capable of activing as an antioxidant in 3 distinct ways by protecting against: 1) singlet oxygen 2) hyrodxyl radicals and 3) superoxide radical damage. Also, curcumin appears to raise endogenous glutathione production in the brain, a major antioxidant defense system.

In order to assess the neurotoxic effects of fluoride and prove curcumin’s protective role against it, researchers randomly divided up mice into four groups, for 30 days:

Control (no fluoride)
Fluoride (120 ppm): fluoride was given in distilled water drinking water without restriction.
Fluoride (120 ppm/30 mg/kg body weight) + Curcumin: Oral dose of curcumin dissolved in olive oil along with fluoride in drinking water
Curcumin: (30 mg/kg body weight)
In order to ascertain the effect of treatment, the researchers measured the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the brains of the different treated mice. MDA is a well-known marker of oxidative stress/damage.

As was expected, the fluoride (F) only treatment group showed significantly elevated MDA levels vs. the non-fluoride treated control. The F + Curcumin group saw reduced MDA levels vs. the fluoride only group, demonstrating curcumin’s neuroprotective activity against fluoride associated neurotoxicity.

The study concluded,

“Our study thus demonstrate that daily single dose of 120 ppm F result in highly significant increases in the LPO [lipid peroxidation, i.e. brain rancidity] as well as neurodegenerative changes in neuron cell bodies of selected hippocampal regions. Supplementation with curcumin significantly reduce the toxic effect of F to near normal level by augmenting the antioxidant defense through its scavenging property and provide an evidence of having therapeutic role against oxidative stress mediated neurodegeneration.”

Very interesting.

Truth is getting out from research in developing countries, how ironic. Those with no money doing the research and helping the truth to be in the open.

Plus curcumin is delicious.

Awesome, thanks so much for this post! Always looking for the good stuff, and even though I find curcumin pretty awesome already, this just gives me more of an incentive to use it even more! I am thinking it might be best to get the actual raw root, and then perhaps drying some spice out of it and also boil it for tea and other foods from it's raw natural state.
I fear some of the goodness might be left out once the packaged spice version go through radiation, etc.. Not sure how the process would work for this root though.

Thanks again! Now off to find a store that sells or can get the root!

Phew, been putting Turmeric in next to everything I cook every day. I knew about its cancer-fighting properties and pineal gland cleaning effects, but this almost tops the other ones. Great news, thanks

Btw, not sure if this is available elsewhere, but Weleda from Germany makes a Calendula tooth paste without fluoride and it's really good. Even removes coffee stains from your teeth. Apparently, there's no fluoride in German tap water, but measuring it myself has shown that it's far from clean as well. Nothing better than purified water imo

No Scope dear Tesla. It kills the beneficial oral bacteria. Use hydrogen peroxide instead, food grade diluted to 3% or otherwise simply swish around and don't swallow. Also, xylitol sugar does wonders for oral health. Can actually cure cavities. Right on about not using toothpaste though. Most contain glycerin, which prevents remineralization of tooth enamel, and of course contains fluorines.

Great post rgray.

Like most others that have responded on this thread, I have been a regular user of turmeric for many years now, initially when cooking curries, but when I learned of its multitude of health benefits, I started looking for as many uses as possible.

If you are new to the use of turmeric, here are a few simple ideas:

If you're going to boil rice, add half a teaspoon to the water; makes the rice look pretty flash as well.

When using a store bought curry powder, never mind that its already got turmeric in it, add a little more.

If you enjoy making hommus, add half to a full teasoon to the mixture. It does not alter the flavour much, and is a great way to take turmeric without cooking it.

Add it to salad dressings, or simply sprinkle on top of a salad.

Personally, I don't consider it worthwhile going overboard, as with all things, too much can be as bad as not enough, so simply look for easy ways to add a little into your diet, remebering that the vast maority of people would consume a diet that is totally bereft of the stuff.

All the Best,

Tony.

Sad to say I have in the past suffered from the 'dark place' as I refer to depression. Since I stopped drinking and cooking with tap water containing sodium fluoride - no more 'dark place' for me. Due to my Whistleblower journey my doctor has scheduled regular appointments since my Child Abuse journey began in March 2011. He has documented my health and I impart to him at regular intervals that I am not experiencing any depression. I have shared with him the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and the poison schedule from the National University of Australia - Sodium Fluoride is listed as a Class 6.1 poison. Class 6.1 is the most toxic in its class.

I use turmeric when I can. I have learned that in India turmeric is used as a condiment so it can be used in a variety of ways. I have one friend who has some turmeric dissolved in water every morning - she tells me it tastes awful but she knows the benefits. I throw it on scrambled eggs and other meals - so it is up to the imagination of the person who is using it as a healing element in their daily routine as to how to use it.

Sodium fluoride is toxic and was first used in Nazi Germany once the effects were seen - it was promoted everywhere. I know that where I live - more and more people are waking up to the fact they are swallowing poison. The simple question; If it is for our teeth - why are we swallowing it? cannot be answered by anyone - big clue.

Great thread - everyone has a right to know the facts about sodium fluoride and if they still want to take it - they can buy sodium fluoride tablets for themself and leave the rest of us to share clean poison free water.

Much Peace - Amanda

Thanks for the post. Thisis one of the good stuff in curcumin, there are more, also i recomend try to use organic grade food, go to the local farmers market to get it, believe me, is a little more expensive but you will save money at the doctor's office in the future, so if you make the nimbers good food is cheap! Remember demand non gmo items at your grocerie store!

Yup - presently I am fond of EarthPaste (http://www.earthpaste.com/), from the Redmond Real Salt folks. It's ingredients are water, Redmond Clay, Xylitol, Redmond Real Salt®, Tea Tree Oil, Menthol, and an a second essential oil depending on flavor.

There is a recent article here:
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/03/02/curcumin-benefits.aspx#!

from Dr. Mercola about turmeric and curcumin, which changed the way I was utilizing those herbs.

Why Whole Turmeric Is Ineffective

Unfortunately, while there's some curcumin in whole turmeric, there's not enough in the regular spice to achieve clinically relevant results. The turmeric root itself contains only about three percent curcumin concentration. Another major limitation of curcumin as a therapeutic agent is that it is poorly absorbed. When taken in its raw form, you're only absorbing about one percent of the available curcumin.

"The natural product industry has developed a standard of a 95-percent concentration of curcumin," Dr. LaValley explains. "Initially, years ago, that was what we had available for patients. Even at that, taking a 95-percent concentration orally in a capsule, only one percent of that could be absorbed. In order to get amounts of curcumin in the bloodstream that are reasonable to have therapeutic effect, people had to take large amounts of curcumin...

In searching the literature, I found that a way to change that, to dramatically increase the bioavailability, is actually a very simple process of bringing water to a boil, putting those capsules or some dry powder (I use it by the teaspoon), and boiling it for 10 to 12 minutes. That increases the amount of curcumin dissolved in water from that one-percent amount up to 12 percent or so. That amount is a vast number of curcumin molecules that are now in a bioavailable or absorbable form."

However, while this is certainly doable, it's really inconvenient, and great care must be taken to prevent staining your clothes and kitchen surfaces. It's a significant enough problem to have been dubbed "yellow kitchen syndrome," as it's virtually impossible to get the stains out. Turmeric is in fact an excellent dyeing agent for fabrics, rendering them a yellow-orange color.

Convenience and efficiency has driven many of the changes in the forms of curcumin in later years. Because it's a fat-loving or lipophilic molecule, many newer preparations now include some sort of oil or fat, which improves its absorbability and bioavailability. Such preparations typically have seven to eight times higher absorption than the raw, unprocessed 95-percent-concentration of dry powder. There are also newer sustained release preparations, which Dr. LaValley prefers and recommends.

RTGXuzlfdp4

I first boil curcumin now and take it with some kind of oil (fish, krill or olive) and black pepper, because I've read in several articles that these also help with absorption.

All the Best,

I have to disagree. Everyone should go overboard on Tumeric/Curcumin via enhanced bio-available extracts. Putting some Tumeric in your rice is not going to provide the anti-inflammatory and free radical protection that we all need at this very critical time. I have been healthy my entire life. One year ago, I was overcome with an attack that resembled a heart attack. After a multitude of tests and a final diagnosis of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and accompanying thyroxine replacement, I was still overcome with daily illness including tremors, weakness, severe pain, disorientation, digestive issues, dizziness/vertigo, etc. etc. Finally (yet unfortunately) I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Encephalopathy on Feb 28th. Tumeric and magnesium are the only things that eliminate the neuropathy in my hands and feet and restore my body to it's petite size versus the balloon that I was becoming due to chronic inflammation.

I am convinced that I suffer this condition due to Fukushima radiation. I spend a great deal of time outdoors and did so in 2011. Incidentally, it was in 2011 that I first noticed a drastic decline in my energy level. It took a year and a half to present as a serious condition. Had I been taking Tumeric/Curcumin and Iodine at the time of the meltdown, I doubt that I would be as sick as I have been. I didn't really think that the radiation would have a big impact on Central Kentucky. I was wrong.

My neuroendocrinologist states that Hashimoto's Encephalopathy has gone from being a rare (30 known cases in 2011) to an epidemic (thousands upon thousands presenting symptoms) today.

After having a horrible allergic reaction to the prescribed Plaquenil and my outright refusal to take Methotrexate, I embarked on finding answers to fix my issue. Curcumin, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B1, Magnesium, Zinc, purified Fish oil, CoQ10 (to reverse damage to white matter in the brain), and an anti-inflammatory diet, 10 cups of Rooibos tea daily, have brought me back to about 50% of my pre-2011 condition. I have been on this protocol for two months. The last thing I added to the protocol Curcumin/Tumeric. Almost instant relief from pain and numb hands/feet.

In 2010, Julian/Charles/Steven warned us that the powers were seeking to "turn the planet into a toilet". Of all the disinfo this man projected, this is one warning that we must heed. I am currently entrenched in fighting the "Bluegrass Pipeline", am suffering the effects of radiation poisoning from a man made retaliatory event (the economic war against Japan via environmental disaster), and watching many states here in the US being raped for resources to extract shale oil from the Earth ( Wisconsin is currently being raped for sand to use in the Fracking process). The driver behind these processes is Jim Tisch of Loews Corporation who owns most of these rights through dummy corporations. He is the devil incarnate and is closely linked to the Koch's and is considered the true Wizard of Wall Street. Ask Steven about Jim Tisch. He will know the name.

Sorry, I digress. So Curcumin/Tumeric. You cannot overdose on it. It has no known side effects, so please please please please please.... do yourselves a favor and start taking it. If you start to notice a rapid and unexplained decline in your energy level; if you are dizzy for no apparent reason; if your fingers and feet are numb, consider yourselves environmentally poisoned and take the assault on our beings seriously.

Sorry to sound "inflammatory" ( he he, I am actually inflamed) but this is serious stuff. It is provided with the very best of intent.

There has been a lot of information coming out the past few years on the health benefits of tumeric that I began to find it unavailable at various grocery stores. So, I bought some in bulk at Monterey Bay Spice Company.

http://www.herbco.com/

The price for the one lb size was only $9.50 for a pound of organic tumeric powder. Quite a savings over the retail grocery store price for a small amount.

They also have some very nice essential oils. Frankincense is okay, but not as nice smelling as Young Living's version, but a friend of mine said that maybe it is due to the use of a different carrier oil. But the Lemongrass essential oil ($4) is really nice, and smells great and kind of perks you up with it's lemony fresh fragrance. Great prices at Monterey Bay Spice Company, and delivery was speedy.

I also second the above recommendation for the GreenMedInfo website. Somewhat similar to Dr. Mercola's information website, although without such hard pounding advertisments. After finding GreenMedInfo I unsubscribed from Mercola to avoid all the merchandising that Mercola had deteriorated to. GreenMedInfo has a lot of tumeric information.

Common Food Items Could Contain 180 Times More Fluoride Than Tap Water

Fluoridated tap water and toothpaste are oftentimes considered the main sources of fluoride exposure, but it turns out that common food items could actually be largely contributing to your fluoride intake. According to fluoride expert Jeff Green, who has been actively protesting and studying the effects of fluoride on the body for other 15 years, one common food product contains up to 180 times more fluoride than your fluoridated tap water!

According to Green, the culprit is non-organic food, but not just one kind. If you’re still eating conventionally-farmed food products, you may be unknowingly exposing yourself to extreme levels of fluoride. Green says this is made possible by fluoride going incognito within the food supply in a very concerning way:

“Cryolite is actually sodium aluminum fluoride… This sodium aluminum fluoride is especially effective at killing bugs,” Green says. “It’s also very sticky, so when they spray it, it’s more likely to stick on your produce, unless you’re… really working at trying to get it off of it.”

Fluoride-Based Pesticide Contaminating Food Staples
While Green states that a large number of non-organic produce items can contain shocking levels of this fluoride-based pesticide, iceberg lettuce may be one of the largest offenders. In fact, iceberg lettuce can now be laced with a startling 180 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride – 180 times higher than the ‘recommended’ water fluoridation level. This ‘health’ food could actually be corroding your body with heavy levels of fluoride. But what other seemingly-healthy produce items contain high amounts of fluoride?

Citrus fruits are actually allowed to contain 95 ppm’s of sodium fluoride.
Potatoes can have as much as 22 ppm’s on the outside, and 2 ppm inside.
Raisins are allowed 55 ppm’s.
Fluoride has been linked to decreased IQ in children, and even the United States government is calling for lower levels of fluoride to be added to United States water supplies. Perhaps the next big hurdle in the fight against fluoride will be within the food industry.

@ Tesla About oral care, I practice oil pulling for a few month everyday before swallow anythig and after brushing my teeth and tongue, and my teeths have never been so bright and clean, I feel my mouth is purified. Sure it's an health trick !
I do appreciate with my mouth full, to begin your day without a world, making my wake up quieter, not so bad !

Gandush is a practice from Ayurveda medicine.
I found this short explanation on this web site (http://www.ayurvedaireland.ie/treatments/gandush-kawal.html) :"One tablespoon or about 10ml (5ml for children) should be taken into the mouth without swallowing. The oil should be swilled around the mouth gently touching all mucous membranes and surfaces of the teeth. To strengthen the teeth, gums and jaw! To improve the voice! To remove wrinkles! remove mouth odour, whitens teeth.,stimulate taste buds.

If you want to try, please get more informations.
Choose fine quality, organic sesame (the best), sunflower (less expensive) or olive oil (harder to shake) to get the best results.

I hope it could help you !

About curcuma, you can grow the rizhome just as ginger... and use it fresh !
To activate the power of this spice, indian traditionnal cooking mixes it fresh with a pinch of pepper (whole), garlic, onion and thyme (all fresh if possible) in a mortar an pestle, as the base of a lot of cooking dish.
And it tastes so good !
