This is so stinking cool! What an idea to study! Once again, there is building evidence toward our physical world being reflected by our conscious world! I love this. Take a gander. See the article here: http://higherperspective.com/2014/05/looking-tears-microscope-reveals-amazing-fact.html

One day Rose-Lynn Fisher wondered if her tears of grief would look different compared to her tears of joy, so she began to explore them up close under a microscope.

She studied 100 different tears and found that basal tears (the ones that our body produces to lubricate our eyes) are drastically different from the tears that happen when we are chopping onions. The tears that come about from hard laughter aren’t even close to the tears of sorrow. Like a drop of ocean water each tiny tear drop carries a microcosm of human experience. Her project is called The Topography of Tears. This is what she had to say about the project:

“The Topography of Tears is a study of 100 tears photographed through a standard light microscope. The project began in a period of personal change, loss, and copious tears. One day I wondered if my tears of grief would look any different from my tears of happiness – and I set out to explore them up close, using tools of science to make art and to ponder personal and aesthetic questions.”
Joseph Stromberg of the Smithsonian’s Collage of Arts and Sciences explained that there are three major types of tears: basal, reflex, and psychic (triggered by emotions). All tears contain organic substances including oils, antibodies, and enzymes and are suspended in salt water.
Different types of tears have distinct molecules. Emotional tears have protein-based hormones including the neurotransmitter leucine enkephalin, which is a natural painkiller that is released when we are stressed. Plus, the tears seen under the microscope are crystallized salt and can lead to different shapes and forms. So even psychic tears with the same chemical composition can look very different. Fisher said, “There are so many variables—there’s the chemistry, the viscosity, the setting, the evaporation rate and the settings of the microscope.”

What do you guys think? I think my favorite is the Tears of Elation at a Liminal moment. The molecules look like a tree reaching toward the sky almost. They seem... hopeful in a way. I also love the tears of change. It is almost like an interpretive art piece.

You're right, Zaya. Too cool. Who woulda thought?
I seem to cry at the drop of a hat. I will never think of them the same! ;-)

How interesting, definately something going on. My daughter used to react to the artificial colours and additives in sweets and stuff. she would become emotional and cry for no reason for quite sometime. It seems the emotional crying help to rid your body of certain toxins

Me too, Matt! The most frustrating thing is that I often actually cry for OTHERS instead of for me (also at the drop of a hat) lol. Being empathetic means I get totally overwhelmed with people's emotions... so I wonder what tears look like when manifested from empathetic means? Hm..

They look like little cities, they are awesome.

Yea, some of them do! It is interesting to note which emotions seem to induce more "structured" tear molecules. What I am noticing upon examining again is this:

-It seems that the tears that triggered from "memory specific" emotions are much more structured in that they have more straight lines in them (like Tears of remembrance, tears of timeless reunion, tears of release) whereas:
-The ones that are most likely spawned from specific "in the moment" events (such as laughing til you cry, onions, tears or emotion in a luminal moment).
-Then tears of change and grief both have an almost 50/50 split - some straight lines from what is being changed (the memory) and what is unknown or "in the moment" (not in the memory). Makes sense grief would relate half to the memory and half to the "moment" or the "unknown" if you will.

Anyone else notice this pattern? It is especially evident when looking at the tears from an onion one. There is absolutely no emotion or memories attached to the release of the tears. It is simply a physical in the moment bodily reaction and there is not one straight line structure in it.

as above so below ... the tears reflect the inner emotions , shapes are influenced by spiritual energy created by humans ... wait till they discover thoughts can influence a planets health ...

Straying from tears, but staying with the microscopic theme, guess what this is.

Right click on the photo and read the properties for the answer.

Edit: Doh! It says right on the picture.

The tears are infinitely more interesting and quite powerful.

This reminds me of the work of Masuro Emoto who photographed frozen water crystals that were exposed to different emotions, words, and even music. The variations of the crystals were mind boggling. They varied from beautiful structured patterns to chaotic and hideous. That information really transformed my reality and greatly increased my awe and respect for the natural world. These photos increase that respect even more. I am blown away by the brilliance of this creation that we live in.

And the sand photo is oh so cool!!!!!!!!

Peterpam I LOVE the Emoto experiment. I had forgotten about that one. Thanks for bringing it back to the forefront of my mind! They are indeed very similar. I love that there are brilliant minds out there willing to do the work to get this research done especially since they have no immediate pay off and may be considered "laughable" at first to some close-minded types.

Our conscious thoughts DO affect our reality. We ARE the co-creators. And it is these types of experiments that back that up with data. Now if we could just get more scientists on board...

Zaya, I think there is guidance and synchronicity provided by this creative brilliance we call mother earth. You can read about this occurring with all sorts of brilliant discoveries throughout the ages. Many have admitted that their ideas were not there own but given to them through an unknown power. Zaya, thank you for reminding me that we really do live within a marvelous creation at a most fascinating time in history. Oh the wonder of it all!
