"From Earth Day (April 22nd) to May 31st, we are in the midst of an Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign to raise the funding needed to gear up for production of our Solar Road Panels. Our technology works. Now it's time to gear up for manufacturing."

"We want to make every effort to keep the project "green", following the adage for reduce, reuse and recyle. This will be true from manufacturing all the way through to installation and maintainance. "

I think this is an awesome idea even impletmented initially privately on your own property.
However a military application being plugged for this tech freaks me out some what.

Also worth watching is co-inventor Scott Brusaw's 2010 TEDx talk on YouTube:

For some reason the video is in two parts. The above link is to part one.

First you have to ask yourself where does the electricity come from to make tron-town glow all night...

If it's from "solar freakin' roadways", then you need 3-5 times the "solar freakin' roadways" to harvest enough energy during the day, find somewhere to store that energy, and then let it out overnight.

Look at any normal PV set-up, with efficiencies of 15-20%, and they are angled to the light...flat roads make some small percent of the already small percent only possible, and as latitude increases, they get worse.

Sorry, but it's a scam...

I wouldn't call this a scam just not a practical idea. The tech is all there it's just not gonna happen for like over 100 years. I don't think I'm exaggerating either, it just doesn't make sense. It would be more intelligent to just cut the bs and have cars that drive themselves to whatever location you'd like.

As an auto enthusiast I don't like it but I just assume it's just a matter of time till that's what people consider driving; hop in your car, say where you want to go and you go there. This eliminates wreckless/drunk driving issues. What you guys think?

I'm thinking more on the grid as a whole...

Solar panels harvest energy and put them into the grid. They don't provide an inrush of power when a smelter starts, not keep your frequency at 50/60Hz, extra capacity to ride through a short, the power to start the pumps at the local waterworks...

Maybe "scam" was too emotive, but they are being marketed as 'though the grid feeds only TVs and laptops, and can magically provide Tron-town overnight
