TORONTO — KFC's Double Down caused a bit of double talk in Ontario Tuesday, after it first appeared the province's top health official would not exclude reviewing the availability of the new 500-plus calorie sandwich.

"It certainly is something that we may look at and review, but no not to my knowledge, that is not something we've discussed at all," said Health Promotion Minister Margarett Best in a scrum.

The sandwich, Launched on Monday in Canada, features a dollop of KFC's secret sauce wrapped in two slices of cheese between two slices of bacon and two filets of chicken — serving as bread — for a neat 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and almost 1,400 milligrams of sodium.

But later in the afternoon, Best's office made it clear she wasn't taking a bite out of Ontarian's freedom to choose.

"I wish to reiterate that there are no plans to review the availability of any food products in Ontario," it said. "Consumers have the right to choose the food they wish to purchase."

"If you can't hear your arteries harden while you eat, it just isn't food!" - Fred

A bit sad it isn't wrapped in bread though. I mean, how is one supposed to eat this monster while driving with one hand, talking on the phone, and screaming at the kids? You'd wind up wearing half of it.

Then again, anything with that much salt in it, probably wasn't cooked right to begin with.

Gimme a dbl-bacon-cheeseburger with avocado any day.

It is amazing that all this delicious poison is legal and protected in most cases by our gouvernement.

Check the News this morning. France is beginning to look like Watts riots of 1965.
And that is just over having to work an extra 2 years!

Now imagine the government trying to tell the French, what they can eat.
Imagine trying to get re-elected after you'd outlawed Cheeseburgers, or Poutines?

Probably less bloody ways of cutting your own throat ;)

Oh, mon dieu...poutine with BACON?! I like having poutine once in a blue moon...but have always (semi-) jokingly called it "heart attack on a plate"! *L* I think adding bacon on it is close to suicidal!

A friend of mine bought one of those KFC sandwiches. Surprising small for $7.

Interesting....We can choose what crappy food we eat, we just can't choose what healthy organic food and herbs to take, or you'll have a swat team kick down your door?

Yup....Methinks somethings really off the mark.
