Mystery Rock 'Appears' in Front of Mars Rover

In a comparison of recent photographs captured by the rover’s panoramic camera, or Pancam, on sol 3528 of the mission, only bare bedrock can be seen. But on sol 3540, a fist-sized rock had appeared (raw Pancam images can be found in the mission archive). MER scientists promptly nicknamed the object “Pinnacle Island.”

“It’s about the size of a jelly doughnut,” Squyres told Discovery News. “It was a total surprise, we were like ‘wait a second, that wasn’t there before, it can’t be right. Oh my god! It wasn’t there before!’ We were absolutely startled.”

But the rover didn’t roll over that area, so where did Pinnacle Island come from?

Y'all need to take into account also, that we have bases on Mars. There's probly a bunch of our people sittin out there in lawn chairs, watchin this stupid thing take pictures. And somebody got the brite idea to walk over and place a rock for the stupid camera to catch on the next pass, and they're all sittin there laughin. Are you aware that those people working for NASA, that are monitoring those cameras, do not know we have bases there? And those people in lawn chairs, know that those NASA guys don't know. A simple Rock... so subtle, yet so profound!!!:wizard:

Perhaps it was subject to automatic removal on the initial sweep -after scrutiny decided it was not a problem -so it was detailed? Either way it confirms :rolleyes:-LOL

NASA being NASA, they would have to first rule out it wasn't due to some Marsquake-caused landslide rolling pebbles around, a fish/cow/stone raining electrical tornado, a rock/dust-devil passing by or a plain meteor shower before considering a prank from some mischievous autochtone... :)

Nope !!! Sorry. NASA don't know they're there either. They listen to the very same stories we do, wonder the very same thoughts we do. Cuz they are not in the loop, of our true scientific achievement, in our "real" space program. Remember how everything is "compartmentalized", it the military??? NASA... ain't in that compartment.

Those at area51 don't know what is happening on the otherside of the base, and 51 doesn't know what S-4 is doing, and none of them know what Wright Patterson Air Force base is doing, and none of them know what Vandenburg is doing, and none of them know what Pine Gap is doing, and you should be getting a picture of what they all don't know. chuckle chuckle.

I don't think so sirdipswitch. Remember, its the folks at NASA that scrubbed the moon pics. However, not all ppl at NASA know all the dirty secrets. Lies different at every level. But some of them are in the know.
