In Ufology I can recall the early days of UFO disclosure on the internet. There was Dr. Greers 1st UFO congress posted and Jamie Maussan's excellent conferences as well as other lecture topics. Advertizing came along on the internet and now most of the YouTube channels are collecting monetization and hard to find guest speaker uploads from the conferences because people want us to pay to watch. There are some videos so heavily embedded with ads that can't usually make it through a longer upload time. And, remember there was only public TV and ads eventually taking more of the public air time. When cable first came out there were no ads, probably because we were paying for cable. People were getting their value because cable would seek to fill the air time with programs. What happened to the programing on cable TV? Now its like public TV was and sometimes more ad time than actual program time.

Another place where it's obvious that revenue is more important is how new uploads are managed on YouTube to give the highest priority to uploads that are collecting ad revenue.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious here about how we hate ads but the concern is do we as humanity dumb ourselves down if by advertizing we limit the flow of information?

Everything changes everything and advertising is part of the free flow of information, I think. :)

True, and funny how it works. Yes, I also get annoyed by certain ad's like everyone else, but on the flip side we at Project Camelot would not be able to pay our hosting expenses and such without it. Double edged sword I guess. An ad-blocker does wonders though, even on youtube :)
