"Avoiding Your Own Memorial,” by Gerald Celente of 'Trends In The News'

Paraphrase: “Gerald Celente is a black belt Close-Combat martial artist, and well understands the importance of proacting rather than reacting…”

A very effective summary, with useful guidelines. My only addition would be regarding getting in someone's face.

One can be effectively argumentative, confrontational, and assertive without getting in another's face. Doing so is quite simply an attempt to express dominance, disrespect, or aggression (at the very least, make it personal); I know of no cultures that suggest doing so in the midst of a disagreement, argument, or confrontation, so aside from the previous there is nothing to be gained by doing so. Additionally, in maintaining a safe/respectful distance one can immediately detect the intent of the opponent should they seek to diminish the space between; whether violent or not in real or potential, doing so can be considered an act of implicit/overt aggression and a telling sign of the increasing potential need to defend one's self.

It is impossible to be struck if one is out of reach/range; an opponent who observably attempts to eliminate the range issue may not be violent, but they most probably don't have your best interests at heart or in mind.
