Has anyone here ever heard of (or know anything about) "colorpuncture?"
I am going to an acupuncturist tomorrow, and saw on her (very terse, understated) website that she also does colorpuncture. I had never seen the word or heard of the concept before today.
What is Colorpuncture?
Esogetic colorpuncture is a revolutionary evolution in holistic healing and one of Europe’s most popular new alternative healing disciplines. The originator of colorpuncture is Peter Mandel, a German scientist and naturopath. Colorpuncture involves focusing colored light on acupuncture (and other) points on the skin in order to energize powerful healing impulses in our physical and energy bodies.A tiny bit more here: http://healing-point.com/services.htm (click the "Colorpuncture" tab)

According to Edgar Cayce color. light and sound was used in the temples in Atlantis for healing. There is some psychological evidence that color has an effect on people, such as painting institutional settings paticular colors for calming effects. Color and light alwasy seemed logical to me in healing but can't say specifically why.

I recall a number of far-sighted scientists doing similar research in the 90s. As an acupuncturist I can see that this is a potentially positive way forward, as many people are scared of needles, and obviously the things cost money and need to be correctly disposed of, which is a drawback.
Using lasers to stimulate acupuncture points is not new and seems to be getting much more popular, different colours being used for different point actions is perfectly feasible, though I'd be a little concerned at the notion that any colour has a universal effect, I'd be more inclined to think there is variation depending upon each individual's constitution.
Good luck Dennis !

My late mentor, Dr. Christopher Hills ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Hills did a lot of research into the use of color for healing and for understanding individual and group psychology.
He was also Dr. Mark Sircus's mentor, and Mark wrote an interesting article here:
http://drsircus.com/personal/color-psychology-2
Dr. Hills researched the Luscher Color Test as a way to determine which chakras were most active in individuals, which colors were predominant in their auras, and which were lacking.
A healing method was developed which used light shining through colored gels to radiate patients with the colors they were lacking, to restore health and create more balance.
I don't remember which books by Dr. Hills dealt with the healing method using color, but one might be Discovering the Rainbow Body.
Dr. Sircus, who is also an acupuncturist, could probably tell you more. He is an Avalon member, though not an active one.
But he can probably be reached more easily via his website:

Thanks for the replies.
I posted elsewhere (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?30405-Here-and-Now...What-s-Happening&p=837946&viewfull=1#post837946) about my own personal confirmation that acupuncture "works", and I am going to have acupuncture today. I suspect the colorpuncture is much more subtle, and I have a deep muscle spasm that won't let go (that's my self-diagnosis anyway) in my lower back from a twisting fall about a year ago, and I don't want subtle assistance with it - I want a profound, powerful experience where the nerves connected to the muscles are instructed to "let go, dammit!"
But, I will ask her about colorpuncture, and where she sees it fitting in her practice. By the way, my sense is that it is not actually laser light, but rather is intense, focused, white light going through colored filters. From the little I know, a real laser gets color by going through a gas (like argon/blue-green light) or a crystal (like ruby/red light.)

I just scanned the site Daphne provided a link to, and see the "chromotherapy torch" which does use colored filters. Again, I would expect if there is any real effect and not just placebo, it would be very subtle from this small source of light energy - even though directed at acupuncture points. The acupuncturist that I'm seeing (in about 2 hours) comes recommended, and why would she include colorpuncture in her alternative therapy offerings if it has NO effect? Well, it probably does have an effect.

Dennis--
From a different angle: I had an enduring muscle spasm that my chiropractor helped me with by doing an adjustment and giving me calcium tablets. He said the calcium was necessary so that the muscle could relax. Chiropractic and supplement are probably more physical and less energetic than acupuncture or colorpuncture, but perhaps they'd be good companions for your situation.
Best wishes.

DennisIt's not the light energy Dennis, it's the frequency of the colors - trillions of measures per second. Dr. Robert Rowen is an excellent alternative, holistic MD and he uses color therapy in his practice. I have one of his kits and we've successfully used the blue color on my teenage girl's acne. Yep, it works.

This is really interesting!!!!! Color sounds a LOT nicer than needles. LOL That said, even being a huge needle phobic, accupuncture cured me of a fairly serious depression,,, in one visit. That was about 20 years ago. If you try the color thing, be sure to update, I am very curious about this. Good luck!!

Has anyone here ever heard of (or know anything about) "colorpuncture?"
Light of the right frequencies can be healing, from what I've read (but not tried.)
This blurb, taken from this commercial website (http://www.elixa.com/light/arrays.htm) for such lights, contains the buzzwords that are likely worth searching for further:
LED Light Therapy speeds healing, pain relief, improves circulation. High output. Multi-color units. Pulsed and Constant. Handheld and free-standing.
I suspect that there's a close connection between the frequencies that can energize certain molecular bonds and the optimum light colors for such healing work. This likely also ties in with work on structured or exclusion-zone (EZ) water.

I did go, and I had acupuncture - and asked about colorpuncture. This particular practitioner uses colorpuncture for patients with needle phobias and sometimes in conjunction with acupuncture. She mentioned that she sometimes also uses electrical stimulation with acupuncture, so I guess you could call her style "mixed modalities." (as she feels necessary for specific patient or symptoms) If I had been afraid of needles, I would have had colorpuncture.
Acupuncture is all about the flow of "chi" or "qi" (energy), and colorpuncture (she said) also can be used to get chi flowing down specific pathways (meridians.) Chi can be warm or cool, "wet" or "dry", stagnant or fast (just a few examples that I remember.) She mentioned that she might, for example, use opposite colors on two different body points to move chi in a specific direction.
As an aside (regarding acupuncture, but not colorpuncture), I was surprised that the one place in my body where no needles were used for my back injury was my back. I had needles in the back of my hands, arms, ears, one on the crown of my head, and several on each foot/lower leg. About 30 or so total. And, even though she said it often takes multiple treatments (as many as 10) to get complete relief from some symptom or malady, she had me check my back after getting the needles out, and I did get partial relief. Range of motion was increased and pain lessened. I was really glad to note some "instant" relief, because I would have had a difficult time coming back for more if I had felt nothing. I'm seeing her again today.
genevieve, I did go to one chiropractic visit, but found the alignment at the lower back to be too violent. The "industrial-grade" TENS unit was good, the upper back alignment was fine, but for the condition my lower back was in, I felt that the quick, powerful pelvic twist he used was too much. It didn't feel better, so I didn't go back.

Dennis--
I should've been more specific. Oops!
I was suggesting you might look into calcium as an assist to the acupuncture. Maybe instead of ingesting it,
you could place it with intention on the appropriate meridian(s). Or . . . .
I'm glad you got some relief and hope you'll get a lot more--soon.

Color have a massive impact in our lives.
There have been times I my life when color was imperative in my personal healing. During the time I was healing from stage 3 cervical cancer and later Lyme disease I feel if I hadn’t utilized color my healing would not have been as successful.
I used certain color candles, gem stones, wore certain colors, decorated with different colors, planted different and certain color flowers and other plants whose aura are specific colors throughout the healing process.
Our eyes are the windows to our very soul and being and so ‘seeing’ and surrounding ourselves with certain color affects our lives deeply. Pay attention to the colors throughout your life that you are drawn or attracted too .. . . . more than likely it is the healing quality in that color spectrum that you holistically need.
Dennis I would like to suggest that you take a look at Louise L Hay’s book “Heal Your Body”. Because your back pain is so persistent and lengthy you may be holding onto a mental thought or belief that is causing this physical illness (manifestation) to remain. She specifically addresses “The Mental Causes for Physical Illness and the Metaphysical Way to Overcome Them”.
The very basic information she says about back pain is it represents ‘the support of Life” and specifically the lower back is “fear of money and lack of financial support in one’s life”. The metaphysical thought and belief to heal is “I trust the process of life. All I need is always taken care of. I am Safe.”
I am not saying you have this belief at all . . . I am only stating what her book says. I have found over the years the different illnesses and problems I have had and what she says about them has been dead accurate and her metaphysical healing belief has helped me tremendously.

This is a research paper about chromotherapy: A Critical Analysis of Chromotherapy and Its Scientific Evolution (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1297510/), from the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health
It's an interesting read.
