Hair driers
Upright refrigerators
Plasma TVs
Air conditioners in cool climates
Heat pumps above in mild climates
Clothes driers in hot climates
All this effort to try and encourage people to buy 5-star rated appliances.. Why not just ban the offending products? Governments are too scared? Of what? They did this in Cuba. Nothing like living on an island with finite oil supplies to keep you sensible...
I''m talking about in locations where energy supply is predominantly from fossil fuels.

This kind of policy gets me upset. If energy is scarce, the price will go up and people will stop using the offending appliances. In about the year 2005, Houston, Texas planned to ban lawn mowers and charcoal grills in the Summertime because of poor air quality. Not very popular rules that were overridden immediately.

Ban lawnmowers - I like that idea. But, why does this kind of thing upset you? You don't think there is an energy supply problem? Even at high prices, people will still waste energy. Look at all the people determined to drive 17 mpg vehicles in the US at the same time as they bemoan gas prices.

That's because the gas prices are unstable. The prices go up and down while people keep hoping the prices will drop. They don't trust that we are running out of petroleum, and maybe with good reason. What we really need is relaxing control of alternate energy and free energy.
The people of the world deserve (very) cheap energy, but will not get it while the criminal, dark cabal is in power.

Mexico has a neat system for electricity rates where the more you use the higher the rate or more precisely, the more you use the less the government subsidizes the cost of producing the electricity. This system definitely is an incentive to conserve. I live in Puerto Vallarta which has hot steamy summers, but I manage to use the AC only a few times in a year and so my electricity bills are very low.

BS... let's all adjust our lifestyles when we could be living in a world of abundance, because only the Rothschild's have earned the right? Only the Rockefellers are worthy enough? Screw that... We could be living in a Star Wars like world where technology is dime a dozen and if people want to slouch around that is their business. But if you want there is no limit to what you can do, (just don't harm others...) And Karma is supposed to look after that isn't it?
Let's all adjust our standard of living so the IMC and Big Pharma and Oil and the Banks don't have to lose sleep... while they pollute and poison our planet for their own personal gain. yeah that makes sense... When are people going to pull their heads out of their arses... ?

More rules, more regulations, NO!
One example: You would ban the use of an air conditioner to an elderly person in 40 degre celsuis temperature, a lot of older people die in extreme heat.
NO!

Need I say it? Obviously you would not ban air conditioning to elderly people whose life may depend on it.

Not sure I understand this one.

Yeah we could be ... but it won't happen unless we make it, and we probably can't make unless we show the choices we can make can be outside of "their" guidance.
We could start with getting back to sensibilities, show where the true power is, then shape the world into our Start Trek utopia ...
I have a free standing air conditioner, but never pull it out until it gets past 35C - I live in Calgary, so that's like twice a year ;). Clotheslines are great! People should use them. Even if you have a dryer, or, let's say you don't like the stiffness of line dried clothes -- line dry them, then throw them in the dryer for 10 minutes on cool to soften them up.

What is sad is free energy has been around for over 100 years , Tesla proved wireless electricity from thin air ...

Free energy is available for us all to dry our clothes. It's called sunshine!
Most people seem to live at 20-23o C all year round. Instead they should try investing in warm clothing for winter or wear cool clothes if it's hot. I get very annoyed when I see people turning up their heaters because they are wearing a T-shirt in the winter. Of course when it's 40o C you should try to get cool- but when it is 30o a breeze through a window is cooling. Incidentally what happened to fans which use much less power than a/c, and are very efficient at cooling until it gets REALLY hot but you hardly see them these days.
I like Tessaract's idea. It's common sense.
P.S. What is an upright fridge? Aren't all fridges upright?
Second edit---- We all have one thing that will have to be prised from our 'cold dead hands'. In my case it is my hair-dryer. No negotiation possible!

We lived in Houston, Texas, where it can get hot and humid, for twenty years. We lived in Florida for six years. All of our rooms had ceiling fans so we did not have to run the A/C as often. Now we live in the Andes mountains near the equator where we need no furnace nor A/C. No one here has either.
But this is our choice. No one should have to give up reasonable comfort because of expensive energy.
Energy should be free! Potable water should be free. Clean air should be free. The free energy should be off-grid so we are not charged for delivery.
