Knowing what we know now that most of the government budgets are syphoned
off to 'Black projects', covert operations and just lining the pockets of the
corporations and their political and elite buddies, this does not surprise me but
damn well annoys me and future generations !!
Its already been criticised for its combat ability.....So they will have to build a
new one at more great expense....Surprise !!

‘Just days before its international debut at an airshow in the United Kingdom, the
entire fleet of the Pentagon’s next generation fighter plane — known as the F-35 II
Lightning, or the Joint Strike Fighter — has been grounded, highlighting just what a
boondoggle the project has been. With the vast amounts spent so far on the
aircraft, the United States could have worked wonders, including providing every
homeless person in the U.S. a $600,000 home.’

US F-35 stealth fighter jets unlikely to make debut at British air show

‘US military officials say F-35 stealth fighter jets are unlikely to make their debut at
a British air show next week.
The F-35 warplane, the Pentagon’s most expensive weapons program ever,
developed at a cost of nearly $400 billion, was grounded following a June 23 fire on
an Air Force F-35A jet at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
On Tuesday, the Pentagon said the entire fleet of F-35 stealth fighter jets will
remain grounded until completion of additional inspections of the warplane’s single
engine built by Pratt & Whitney — an American aerospace manufacturer.’

They're absolute crap - an expensive Lemon at best. They continue to suffer from exorbitant corrosion problems and oxygen feeds to the pilots failing along with the electronics.
The British aviation magazine, AIR INTERNATIONAL highlighted these and other failings in an expose article back in their Feb 2012 issue under the title "Corroding Hangar Queen"? 13 major technical problems had been identified in Nov-Dec 2011 including major delays in production (due to ongoing problems & fixes), the Helmet Mounted Display System, Fuel Dump Subsystems, Integrated Power Package, Arresting Hook System, Buffet, Fatigue Life, Test Execution, Software, Weight Management, Thermal Concerns, & Lightning Protection.
Maybe it would just be easier to keep making the F-16/18's (& reintroduce the Harrier, as the VSTOL version of the F35 appears for the moment to be a dead duck!)
(And in a side note - modern cars aren't much better! Once their overly complicated electronics and computers go, you may as well write your car off!)

F-35 combat jet's UK debut at Fairford Air Tattoo cancelled
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76191000/jpg/_76191719_f35.deck.lm.jpg
The first UK appearance of the combat jet due to be used on Britain's new aircraft
carriers has been cancelled. It was hoped the F-35B Lightning IIs would be at the
Royal International Air Tattoo in Fairford, Gloucestershire which, starts on Friday.
But last week the entire fleet of F-35's was grounded in the US following an engine
fire. There is still some optimism that the jet might appear at the Farnborough Air
Show which starts on Monday.Organisers of the tattoo said in a
statement: "Despite everyone's best endeavours, it has now been decided that the
Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II will not fly at the Royal International Air Tattoo
(RIAT) 2014 as all of the aircraft currently remain grounded."
At a cost of around $400bn (£230bn), the F-35 family of jets is the most expensive
defence project in US history.
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76191000/jpg/_76191902_f-35.hovers.lm.jpg
Britain has invested heavily in the jet and some 500 British companies are involved
in the project. The initial UK order for 14 F-35Bs will, with support costs added,
have a price tag of about £2.5bn.BAE Systems has invested £150m in facilities that
will build the rear part of the fuselage and tail fins.
BAE says it employs 2,000 "highly skilled" staff on the programme in the UK.
But the project, led by US-based Lockheed Martin, has been hit by repeated delays
and cost overruns.
'Quite embarrassing'
Last week the US Air Force and the US Navy grounded the aircraft following an
engine fire on one of the planes. That has jeopardised the plane's appearance at the
Farnborough Air Show, where four of the F-35B models - also known as the
Lightning II's - were due to appear.
"If the F-35 doesn't make it to the show it's quite embarrassing. It will jeopardise
the timing of export orders," said Richard Aboulafia, an analyst with Teal Group.
"But assuming there's no major problems here, we aren't expecting a serious blow
to the programme."
Last week the Queen named one of the aircraft carriers due to carry the jets.
The RAF is taking the lead on bringing the jets into service, although each squadron
of F-35B Lightning IIs will be joint with the Fleet Air Arm, with the first flight trials
on board HMS Queen Elizabeth due in 2018.

Why did they not build a new Enterprise instead.....
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just realised we are the first customer and have invested heavily in their
corporate buddies latest cash cow.....!!
We have bought them to fly on those other two overpriced flag ships of
the Royal Navy....Queen Elizebeth & Prince of Wales ......The Laugh
is on UK taxpayers as well.....
============================================
We scrapped the Ark Royal in the late 1970's because it was to expensive
and replaced them with 3 through deck cruisers for the Harrier jets which
were scrapped because they were to expensive and out of date.
Now we are replacing the Cruisers with Two bigger aircraft carriers equipped
with Stealth Harriers that are not very stealthy...LOL

This is a comparison of size of the new Queen Elizabeth class ship with the older
Invincible class aircraft carriers, which the English Navy used during the war at the
Falkland Islands / Guerre des Malouines / Malvinas.
Two of the three Invincible carriers (HMS Invincible & HMS Ark Royal) have
been/are being cut up for scrap. Only HMS Illustrious survives now as a helicopter
carrier/Command Ship.
The two new English carriers will dwarf the ships they replace.

Finally a comparison with the last "largest ship" in the English Navy, the old HMS
Ark Royal which was scrapped in the late 1970's.

My brother's father-in-law was an admiral in the Air Force, showed him the "grave yard" in AZ near where he lives with ga-zillions of dollars of planes that never saw service, just lots of money moved for/around them...then parked in the desert with thousands of others.
I doubt anything that we are allowed to see are the ones being currently used, all the stuff we see about military tech is old or never not obsolete news...it's just politic$ and porn for us "information" consumers, in this case those of us who watched Top Gun too many times as a kid

That's what it is really about , keeping money coming in to the
mil ind complex to keep the high tech factories going, It does
obviously keep many people employed, but the real reason
is to funnel off funds to various projects and money laundering
between the corporations....
Its not cheep to keep these babies flying....

Russian Su -24 scores off against the American "USS Donald Cook"
http://cdn.ruvr.ru/2014/04/21/1505240080/9RIAN_00185088.LR.ru.jpg
Russian Sukhoi Su -24 with the newest jamming complex paralyzed in the Black Sea the most modern American combat management system "Aegis" installed on the destroyer "USS Donald Cook". Pavel Zolotarev, Deputy Director, Institute of USA and Canada, shares details about this version which is being actively discussed in the Russian media and by bloggers.
US destroyer "Donald Cook" with cruise missiles "Tomahawk" entered the neutral waters of the Black Sea on April 10. The purpose was a demonstration of force and intimidation in connection with the position of Russia in Ukraine and Crimea. The appearance of American warships in these waters is in contradiction of the Montreux Convention about the nature and duration of stay in the Black Sea by the military ships of countries not washed by this sea.
In response, Russia sent an unarmed bomber Su- 24 to fly around the U.S. destroyer. However, experts say that this plane was equipped with the latest Russian electronic warfare complex. According to this version, "Aegis" spotted from afar the approaching aircraft, and sounded alarm. Everything went normally, American radars calculated the speed of the approaching target. And suddenly all the screens went blank.
"Aegis" was not working any more, and the rockets could not get target information. Meanwhile, Su-24 flew over the deck of the destroyer, did battle turn and simulated missile attack on the target. Then it turned and repeated the maneuver. And did so 12 times.

Speaking of F35's ...
One very skilled and lucky U. S. Navy pilot ...
AN UNINTENDED LOOP AT TAKEOFF ONE OF THE BEST AIRCRAFT VIDEOS EVER!
Well...I would say there's nothing about this the pilot enjoys. If he could have ejected at 100' upside down and lived, he would have. Looks like the afterburner kicks in while still vectored for vertical takeoff. Lockheed would call this a "software malfunction" and do a little more "regressive testing". Good demo of power-to-weight ratio of this aircraft! And talk about stability control ... If he didn't come out of the loop wings-level, probably would have been bad news; maybe taking some of the carrier with him! Flying through your own exhaust can lead to equipment malfunctions, too! ... As in "flame out". The F-35 is single engine...underpowered and zero airspeed has the aerodynamics of a Steinway piano. An unbelievable piece of flying for sure...
This is how a supremely well-trained US Navy pilot, ice running in his veins instead of blood, fully regains control of his $70 million fighter jet, after a problematic vertical take-off attempt. Watch as the rear vertical thruster fires to cause the problem.
