It was only a 6.1 but .....
BEIJING—At least 373 people were killed and more than 1,800 injured when an earthquake struck a remote part of China's southwestern Yunnan province Sunday, according to official media, in the latest incident in a temblor-prone region.

The earthquake severed local communications, power and transport lines, making contact with the stricken area difficult, the state-run Xinhua News Agency said.

Just goes to show that in a 3rd world region with shoddy building practices, many people can be killed even though the EQ is in a relatively moderate range.

This is the highest number of EQ fatalities in an EQ this year which is really quite amazing considering all of the EQ's we've had this year so far. The next highest month of fatalities was 8 in the month of April.
