The first time I saw Robin Williams on TV was as the 'wack job' ET sent to observe
humanity. He was an exceptional talent both as a comedian and actor. Like Stephen
Fry another high profile person prone to depression and millions of others there is
a fine line between emotional states. Robin was very intelligent and up with the
current political farce that runs the world, and kept his feet on the ground being
involved with various charities. He was still at the top of his profession
as can be seen in the clips below. Only he knows what put him over the edge
this time. He brought joy and pathos to millions around the world and it sad
to hear he has departed this reality. Though he is out there entertaining our
none-physicals already...

This is the first report that Mork transmits through his mind to Orson. The only thing is
that Mork feels a little bit hung over or "a little bezerbed" as Orkans call it. Orson shouts
at him, "You are supposed to be observing behavior, not getting Ork-faced."

Robin Williams Last Interview

Beloved actor Robin Williams was found dead on Monday, police reported.
He was 63.
The apparent cause of death was suicide by asphyxiation, authorities said. According to
his publicist, Williams had been battling severe depression.
Williams was best known for his starring roles in classic comedies like Mrs. Doubtfire,
Good Morning, Vietnam and Jumanji, but also in dramas like Dead Poets Society. He
won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Dr. Sean Maguire
in Good Will Hunting. He rose to fame while playing Mork the alien in the TV show Mork
& Mindy, a Happy Days spinoff.
Most recently, Williams had starred in the new CBS sitcom 'The Crazy Ones.' It was
cancelled after just one season. At his time of death, a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire was in the works.
Susan Schneider, the actor's wife, released the following statement to the New York
Times' Dave Itzkoff:
"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its
most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of
Robin's family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is
remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin's death but on the
countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions."

This is the raw vision/sound of an interview me and Chris Murray conducted in Sydney
in late 2010 for the now-defunct cable show The Movie Club. I posted the footage a few
months ago because I've always liked how it showed the low-key Robin Williams behind
the sometimes manic persona I'd seen in other interviews. He was a lovely guy, very
happy to chat afterwards and was instrumental in arranging for me to visit his hero,
Mort Sahl, in Mill Valley, California, for another interview. He will be missed.

Robin Williams (1951-2014). There is shock & sadness in Hollywood at the
death of Robin Williams, the Oscar-winning actor, who at 63, is believed to
have taken his own life at his home in California. It is thought the star of
films such as Dead Poets' Society and Good Morning Vietnam had been
suffering from depression.

I know this is a 'whacky' world when one man or womans death,
seems to worth more then millions of others......Its a strange paradox
of humanity when people with everything to live for take their lives as
we have seen with many stars and other people. Then there are
millions with little hope struggling to enjoy life in war and poverty.

Robin Williams: 'As sweet as he was funny'

Robin Williams was one of many comedians who made people laugh while simultaneously
struggling with a personal darkness. Are comics more prone to depression - and if so, why?
"It doesn't take a genius to work out that comedians are a little bit nuts." Those were the
words of comedian Susan Murray earlier this year, responding to an academic study that
suggested comedians had unusual psychological traits linked with psychosis.
It takes a certain type of person to stand up and make a fool of themselves in public. But
there is a difference between being a bit zany and suffering mental health problems.
However, the image of comedians as tortured souls who tell jokes in an attempt to dispel
their inner demons has become common over the years.
Kenneth Williams once said: "I certainly wouldn't call myself a happy human being. All the
comedians I've known have been deeply depressive people, manic depressive... They kept
it at bay with this facade."

Fry said: "There are times when I'm doing QI and I'm going, 'ha ha, yeah, yeah' and inside I'm going, 'I want to die.'"
Robin Williams was also reported to have had bipolar disorder, which seriously affects the mood,
with people swinging between phases of extreme happiness and creativity to severe, crushing depression.

David Sillito looks at the battle Robin Williams faced behind the comedy
"Among the creative professions, it's very, very common," says comedy producer and performer
John Lloyd, who made the TV series QI and Blackadder and is himself bipolar.

"There's a very, very high incidence of bipolar disorder. It's because stable people think the
world's fine as it is. They don't see any particular need to change it.
"Creative people don't feel like that. People who want to change the world tend to suffer a lot for it."
Comedians, Lloyd adds, are more likely to have extremes of personality because they are
"more extreme people".
"Robin Williams was a complete genius and did an enormous body of work. You can't do that
if you're just depressed. You're more likely to do that if you're bipolar and you have terrific
bursts of creative activity.
"And there's a price for everything. Often, and I know this as a television producer, if you've
finished a series and you've been on a high with pumping adrenalin every day, when you come
down from it you're really low. It's punishing."

'Unusual' personalities
In January, academics from the University of Oxford published the results of research into
comedians' psychological traits (this is the report Susan Murray was responding to above).
Professor Gordon Claridge, of the University of Oxford's Department of Experimental Psychology,
studied personality questionnaires filled in by 523 comedians (404 men and 119 women) from
the UK, US and Australia.
"We found that comedians had a rather unusual personality profile, which was rather
contradictory," Prof Claridge says.
"On the one hand, they were rather introverted, depressive, rather schizoid, you might say.
And on the other hand, they were rather extroverted and manic.
"That was a rather unusual profile. The actors we compared them with didn't show that, and
this was highly significantly different from the norms on the test.
"Possibly the comedy - the extroverted side - is a way of dealing with the depressive side.
Of course, this is not true of all comedians."
Laughing to cope
It is not. Not every comedian has difficulties, and depression is far from particular to
creative personalities.
Depression is the single biggest killer of men aged 20-49 in the UK, according to the Campaign
Against Living Miserably (Calm). It touches all corners of society.
Dr Nick Maguire, a senior lecturer in clinical psychology at the University of Southampton, says
there may be a connection between depression and comedy - but "it's certainly not a very strong one".
However, he says different people have different ways of coping.
"People often isolate themselves," he explains. "Another way of temporarily reducing the impact
of those emotions is to make people laugh, to make people like you.
"Unfortunately, the release can sometimes be very temporary. It's fine as long as it's happening,
but when you go home again, what do you do?"

Robin Williams and Terry Gilliam Terry Gilliam (right) said Robin Williams' comedic talent had
been 'a miracle' but there was 'a price to pay'
In public, Robin Williams always seemed to be performing, always the wise-cracking firecracker
who wanted to make people laugh.
He made no secret of his problems with alcohol and marriage break-downs, but spoke more
guardedly about his bouts of anxiety in interviews, usually attempting to look on the bright side.
"Every time you get depressed, comedy will be there to drag your ass out of it," he told
The Guardian in 1996.
Terry Gilliam, who directed Williams in the Golden Globe-winning film The Fisher King, said
the star's comedic talent had been "a miracle", but such a gift "doesn't come from nothing".
"When the gods gift you with the kind of talent Robin had, there's a price to pay," the Monty
Python star told the BBC.
"It comes from deep problems inside. A concern, all sorts of fears. Yet he could always channel
those things and turn them into gold.
"I think that comes with the territory."

‘In a bizarre coincidence, a Family Guy episode featuring Robin Williams

It’s interesting to ponder whether such synchronicities are meaningful and
emerge from the collective unconscious, as Carl Jung postulated, or whether
they are just random coincidences.’

Robin Williams 'had Parkinson's' when he died
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76952000/jpg/_76952863_76952858.jpg
Robin Williams was suffering from the early stages of Parkinson's disease at the time of his death, his wife has said.
Susan Schneider said her husband had been sober but "not yet ready to share publicly" his struggles with Parkinson's.
She added that he had also been suffering from anxiety and depression.
The 63-year-old actor was found dead in an apparent suicide in his home on Monday.
Police said he died of asphyxia due to hanging.
"His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to
those fighting personal battles," Ms Schneider said in a statement, adding her husband's sobriety was "intact".
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/76952000/jpg/_76952954_76952953.jpg
Susan Schneider (left) said the family hoped "others will find the strength" to seek care for their own battles
"It is our hope in the wake of Robin's tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and
support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid."
Parkinson's is a degenerative neurological disorder.
It is believed that the disease is brought on by a mixture of genetic and environmental factors, but the
exact cause is still unknown.

The marquees of Broadway's theatres were dimmed on Wednesday in memory of Robin
Williams following the actor and comedian's death earlier this week.
Charlotte St Martin of New York's Broadway League called him "a comedic genius with
limitless talent" who had "left this world far too early".
Williams will also be remembered at the Primetime Emmy Awards on 25 August.
Plans are under way for a "proper and meaningful remembrance", said executive producer
Don Mischer.
Williams made an appearance at last year's ceremony during an In Memoriam segment to
his comic mentor, Jonathan Winters.
Actor Simon Pegg has become the latest celebrity to pay tribute to Williams, who will be
heard voicing a dog in Pegg's upcoming comedy Absolutely Anything.
Williams, said Pegg at the premiere of his new film Hector and the Search for Happiness, was
"an extraordinary man and performer" who had "absolutely" been one of his comedy heroes.
"If anything positive can come from such an awful thing, it's that people will maybe take
depression a bit more seriously," the Shaun of the Dead star added.
Williams, who took his own life on Monday, was said to have been "battling severe depression"
in the months leading up to his death.

Singer Sinead O'Connor also paid tribute to the Dead Poets Society star by dedicating a concert
in London to him on Tuesday.
The Irish performer went on to say "the choice that Robin made" was "a very bad idea" and urged
anyone "contemplating that choice" to reconsider.
Williams, a dedicated fan of computer games, is also to be memorialised by Blizzard Entertainment,
the company behind the popular World of Warcraft series.
"You gave us so much joy in our lives and we hope you enjoyed your time in our world," its makers
tweeted. "We'll see you in-game."
The cast of Broadway show Aladdin also paid tribute to the star with an impromptu curtain call
sing-along of Friend Like Me.
Williams provided the voice of the Genie in the 1992 Disney cartoon, a character recreated on
stage by Tony award winner James Monroe Iglehart.
Williams' death at the age of 63 was confirmed as a suicide by hanging on Wednesday by
authorities in California.
The entertainer was last seen alive by his wife on Sunday evening and was found dead at
about noon on Monday.
