Just spent a few minutes of my life telling a story about a friends UFO experience and microseconds before I pushed the send button I get the Google "Awe snap" page

anyone else getting this seemingly designed to annoy page?

I have never gotten this page in my experience, from the sound of your post I hope I never do.

I am totally unaware of what the "awe snap" page is, could you enlighten me?

Thanks for the link. Wow. As I said I haven't had the pleasure of that irritating experience. Totally sucks.

I will type everything in a separate program and then copy to google-related sites from now on, so if it happens I'll at least still have my stuff saved.

Ouch... the fact that they call it "aw, snap!" makes it even more irritating. Why not, "Oops, we're very sorry.." or something like that? Kinda strange I think.

Anyway, thanks again for the lesson, I'm sure I'll end up encountering it sooner or later, at least now I'm prepared and ready.

As far as I'm aware, it is typical of the Chrome and Chromium browsers and has to do with a crashed browser plug-in - the usual suspects are Adobe FlashPlayer and javascript. YouTube - which makes heavy use of the Adobe Flash format and of javascript - is owned by Google, and Chrome and Chromium are web browsers developed by Google. The FlashPlayer code is embedded into Chrome and Chromium due to an exclusivity deal (including a non-disclosure agreement) between Google and Adobe, so it's not a separate process, as is the case with the Mozilla Firefox browser. The non-disclosure agreement is there because FlashPlayer is proprietary software, whereas Chrome and Chromium are Open Source.

When the "Aw snap" page appears, one can typically reload the page just fine by clicking the "reload" icon - commonly a green, circular arrow. The page is triggered by a bug and is not displayed by YouTube, but rather built into your Chrome or Chromium browser itself. Of course, any data entered into forms and such will be lost after reloading the page, so you will have to type that in all over again.

Not Quite with Flash Player and Chrome. Adobe still launches separately. You will see it appear in the program list - one for every tab you have open that's using a flash component. Killing the process results in an aw snap.

Use this to uninstall flash, rather than just uninstall thru add/remove programs, it's essentialy a cleanup tool as well that removes all components of it - from different version of it which may remain on your pc after upgrading:

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html

then re-install.

Try this for Java:

https://www.java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp

Go thru your add/remove programs, - remove any "toolbar's" you see in there. like google, bing and all that other crap - they are bloatware and just report back about your browsing habits.

Install this and run a scan:

https://www.malwarebytes.org/

and finish it up with going to your start menu type in CMD and press enter (if your on WinXP -> start -> run -> cmd) and in the window that appears type in:
chkdsk /f
hit enter. press Y when it asks then enter again.

reboot your pc - do no not skip it when it goes to check your HDD.

let me know how you go!

p.s also do a full uninstall of chrome and re-install.

My apologies. I had overlooked the possibility - not to mention the probability - that the original poster could have been running Microsoft Windows, which has a different way of dealing with process trees and threads. I myself run the GNU/Linux operating system on my computers, and processes and threads follow a different model there.

Well now, that kind of approach is something us GNU/Linux users don't have to deal with. It is never necessary to uninstall and then reinstall something here. ;-)

I have no clue with linux/mac personally ;P dont even know how to place a shortcut on the desktop on them :P but have been dealing with alot of java/IE errors at the job i was at (before i went yeah see'yas and left on thursday :D)

For a company that produces helicopters for the army here in australia.... i am still rather shocked at how they are able to maintain an income with the way they operate. Glad i was able to get out quickly! would have been very unhappy there.

That and well... Must be alot of crap out there at the airport. whenever it rained my car would have lovely white residue of some sort all over it.

I don't really know "Chrome" (satisfied with Firefox), but wonder if there is an add-on anything like the "Lazarus" add-on for Firefox. Slick little tool. Saved my butt a few times.

Try the Developer version of Chrome here: Chrome Canary (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/portableapps/Google%20Chrome%20Portable/GoogleChromePortableDev_38.0.2121.3_online.paf.exe?r=http%3A%2F%2Fportableapps.com%2Fapps%2Finternet %2Fgoogle_chrome_portable&ts=1408165954&use_mirror=netcologne)
it's the portable version also
it wont mess with your current installation
see how this one goes
