SOUTH CAROLINA – Suspended from school and arrested, a teenager in South Carolina says he was only following directions.
Alex Stone says his teacher gave him an assignment, telling him to write a few sentences about himself as “status updates.”
The ninth-grade student at Summerville High School says he wrote a fictional story about killing his neighbor’s pet dinosaur.
But the line, “I bought the gun to take care of business,” didn’t sit well with his teacher.
Alex’s mother says he was suspended for the rest of the week.
“”If the school would have called me and told me about the paper and asked me to come down and discuss everything and at least get his point of view on the way he meant it instead of… I never heard from the school. Never,” said Karen Gray, Alex’s mother.
School officials contacted police, who searched Alex’s locker and his bookbag.
They say he became “disruptive,” so police arrested him and charged him with disturbing schools.
So at the mention of the word "gun" he is suspended from school. There is so much fear and lack of common sense in the public school system these days. Does the teacher feel pressured to over react at the mere mention of the word to keep her job?
So in school, writing the word is tantamount to a crime being committed but these kids can go home and blast away on their video games all night long. Our society is really messing with these kids. The double standards and hypocrisy. are absurd. The society we have given them defies reason, how can we expect reasoning, thoughtful, insightful human beings to rise out of it?
