Is there any "good" in the Christian religion?

If yes... what might we see as "good?"

Good:
Community, friendship, morals (but I believe morals and ethics shouldn't be "taught". Are they real if "taught"?), sense of peace (even if potentially false). Most important, people tend to try harder to maintain positive attitudes when a part of Christianity (or probably most religion) -- I see this as potentially rewarding in a real way.

Bad:
A false sense of security that is backed not by experience, but by another's word, the tendency to judge others as "lesser" or be condescending. Most importantly, it (like any religion) replace a persons desire to seek out their own answers in their own way through various experiences but rather, telling them the "answers" which nullify that desire to seek on their own; In my mind, there is no replacement for experience and self truth-seeking, and when that is replaced, the human experience and required learning is vastly dampened.

My 2 cents ;)

Qualifications: Born and raised in a Christian home.

Are you asking for peoples personal feelings? If so, then this is my take, .......

The Good: For me, it's nutty enough that it started me questioning the meaning of life at an early age.

The Bad: For me, nothing really, since I never believed in it anyway.

there is good and bad in every religion , the teachings were originally given and then corrupted by man every time ... I don't see love in anything that suggest torture for being human making mistakes ... after all Love , peace , harmony, kindness is root of all spiritual teaching ... there is no love in torture , no peace in burning , no harmony in suffering ... No kindness in invading another country and killing everyone ... especially women and children , how can any faith call themselves spiritual , and kill others that have a different viewpoint ??? sidebar - Religion is one reason ET's won't openly show themselves to earth humans , they don't want another religion started ... every time in the past they landed , the locals worshipped them as gods or angels ...

My take on any religious discussion is..........if it works for you than more power to you. If you choose not to believe or believe in something else altogether than more power to you.

When atheist bash religion or come after them in court it is a waste of time and resources. When the religious right goes after atheist it is an equal waste of time and resources. There are a thousand roads that ultimately get us to the same destination. If religion is one of your roads than so be it.
Life is too short to worry about what other people believe or don't believe.

Good: Winning at church Bingo

Bad: Losing at church Bingo

:)

Don't look at me like that! Bingo is my religion!

Okay, I lied, my religion is....

<Listens for the next number called> Wait, what was the question again?

My favorite memory of the Christian Church was leaving the parking lot headed for home.
At one of the churches I went to had a sign that was positioned only on exit, that read 'you are now entering the mission fields'.
There was more spiritual truth to that than any sermon I've ever been bored enough to follow.
There are truths hidden in everything. The secret is to maintain the state of being an all loving conscious observer.
My take

Both religion and science are not far off in that they are both describing the same thing. Their downfalls are that science acts as if its interpretation is devoid of spirit and religion uses guilt and control to control the experience, thus labels and alienates spirit. If both would really see and believe in the magic of humanity this world would be a totally different place.

1. The good..people have a sense of comfort. If one gets Jesus's message they are out there trying to make a difference in the world.
2. The bad is that if it isn't in the christian bible, then it's all demons and satans.

I tried to wake up my christian friend as she lives in great fear of the new world order etc. I tried to tell her there is a bigger world out there. We are not alone. We are just living a temporary experience. But everything i say..she replies that my beliefs are coming from the devil. So she continues to live in fear of the impending apocolypse and doesn't work to help the awakening. But she prays daily..although she prays against people that are into metaphysics b/c we are into the devil and satanism and she believes we are all greatly deceived. I have decided I may want to end the energy of this friendship.

The point of Christianity, especially the institution it has become, is to define "good" and "bad" for you....usually by your interpretation of your "teacher's" (preacher) interpretation.

I believe once upon a time it was a story of who we are, and how to live, which includes loving detachment when "judging" good or bad. It got twisted along the way.

What are you hoping to accomplish with this thread?
