Carbon Dioxide Concentration Surges

Geneva, 9 September 2014 (WMO) – The amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere reached a new record high in 2013, propelled by a surge in levels of carbon dioxide. This is according to the World Meteorological Organization’s annual Greenhouse Gas Bulletin, which injected even greater urgency into the need for concerted international action against accelerating and potentially devastating climate change.

The Greenhouse Gas Bulletin showed that between 1990 and 2013 there was a 34% increase in radiative forcing – the warming effect on our climate – because of long-lived greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide.

In 2013, concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere was 142% of the pre-industrial era (1750), and of methane and nitrous oxide 253% and 121% respectively.

The observations from WMO’s Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) network showed that CO2 levels increased more between 2012 and 2013 than during any other year since 1984. Preliminary data indicated that this was possibly related to reduced CO2 uptake by the earth’s biosphere in addition to the steadily increasing CO2 emissions.

The WMO Greenhouse Gas Bulletin reports on atmospheric concentrations – and not emissions - of greenhouse gases. Emissions represent what goes into the atmosphere. Concentrations represent what remains in the atmosphere after the complex system of interactions between the atmosphere, biosphere and the oceans. About a quarter of the total emissions are taken up by the oceans and another quarter by the biosphere, reducing in this way the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

The ocean cushions the increase in CO2 that would otherwise occur in the atmosphere, but with far-reaching impacts. The current rate of ocean acidification appears unprecedented at least over the last 300 million years, according to an analysis in the report.

“We know without any doubt that our climate is changing and our weather is becoming more extreme due to human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels,” said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud.

“The Greenhouse Gas Bulletin shows that, far from falling, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere actually increased last year at the fastest rate for nearly 30 years. We must reverse this trend by cutting emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases across the board,” he said. “We are running out of time.”

“Carbon dioxide remains in the atmosphere for many hundreds of years and in the ocean for even longer. Past, present and future CO2 emissions will have a cumulative impact on both global warming and ocean acidification. The laws of physics are non-negotiable,” said Mr Jarraud.

“The Greenhouse Gas Bulletin provides a scientific base for decision-making. We have the knowledge and we have the tools for action to try keep temperature increases within 2°C to give our planet a chance and to give our children and grandchildren a future. Pleading ignorance can no longer be an excuse for not acting,” said Mr Jarraud.

"The inclusion of a section on ocean acidification in this issue of WMO’s Greenhouse Gas Bulletin is appropriate and needed. It is high time the ocean, as the primary driver of the planet’s climate and attenuator of climate change, becomesa central part of climate change discussions,” said Wendy Watson-Wright, Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO.

“If global warming is not a strong enough reason to cut CO2 emissions, ocean acidification should be, since its effects are already being felt and will increase for many decades to come. I echo WMO Secretary General Jarraud’s concern – we ARE running out of time,” she said.

So, if increased CO2 has led to almost 20 consecutive years of declining global temperatures, why are we so worried about it?
Remember "global warming" was/is used by the NWO to usher in greater taxes, less freedom and more fascist policies. When "they" could no longer support this failed theory with evidence, the new term became "climate change." Forget for a second, I guess, that we are noticing change on all our solar system's planets and that radical climate change has occurred on the Earth for millions of years naturally, without human meddling. Yet, this article says it IS caused by human activity. The truth is that no one really understands (at least publicly) the incredibly complicated dynamic of global temperatures. Anyone that says "This is the reason" has an agenda and it's probably not a good one.
Further, no serious or credible researcher/reporter can intelligently discuss this topic without including in the discussion decades long global weather manipulation programs. I also personally think it's ridiculously absurd to have this discussion without admitting the decades long suppression of advanced energy technology that would overnight end our primitive dependence on "fossil" fuels (I take issue with them being fossil fuels, too).

Even if man made global warming WAS real, which it's not, here is an interesting take on how impossible it would be to do anything about it:

Yes, it's FOX but even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes. Lord Monckton also explains how the CO2 claims have been debunked, too:

If you want to make this about FOX, idiots Glenn Beck or John Bolton, there are literally hundreds of other sources debunking this bunk.

Speaking of agendas, I'm beginning to wonder about some....

This statement is SOOOO wrong, this type of manipulative movement is just disgusting; I don't even know what to say about this topic anymore.

earth humans still don't want responsibility for earth ... it's always someone else's fault ... climate change is occurring , earth will have her say ... she is a living thing , a living being , she responds just like us , to negative or positive thinking/actions ... just as a flower grows or dies from the lack of love , some have a green thumb , some just say it's a flower ... nature is a living thing ... the health of our world is tied to our thinking ... some of the most beautiful places on earth , are where people are happy , some of the places that are less than , have plenty of angry , violent humans ... nature responds to the waves generated by us ... it is said the brainwaves of humans go out like waves in the ocean , and stretch across the cosmos ... it produces a planetary aura ... Et's can see it , they know before they land , what kind of people live there ... ever wonder why they hide from us ??? our thought patterns make them ill if exposed for too long ... not only does it make ET's sick , it makes our planet sick ... it harms every living thing ... all this was given to earth humans long ago in the 1950's , 60 years later we are still debating it , we have long way to go , we are slow learners ...

If I recall any biology from high school....don't plants NEED Carbon Dioxide to survive? If that's the case plant life should be flourishing if there are increased levels of carbon dioxide in the air correct? What am I missing here?

it is, historically ALL the times that C02 has been elevated in the atmosphere have been some of the BEST times on the planet... its global cooling (the various ice ages) that causes massive die offs, that we should be concerned about....

but before ALL of that, it's meteors, if a large enough meteor strikes earth, earth becomes mars; did you know that mars has a 1 mile thickness difference between 1 half of the planet and the other? there's a mile high cliff that circles mars, probably due to a massive impact.

There was a mistake in the last sentence I corrected

“If global warming is not a strong enough reason to cut CO2 emissions, ocean acidification should be, since its effects are already being felt and will increase for many decades to come. I echo WMO Secretary General Jarraud’s concern – we ARE running out of time to implement the New World Order"she said.

Let's be clear. Are we destroying this planet's ability to sustain our lives with our weapons, our chemicals and our primitive energy consumption and thinking? Yes.
Are we causing "global warming" or "climate change"? Unless we're talking specifically about weather modification programs, NO. Please don't think that because I call a NWO enslavement program what it really is that it means I don't care about the earth. I walk the talk in my life choices, how about you? We're never going to fix this crap until all the truth is on the table.

Global Warming now called Climate Change has been politicized. It has set back honest science years if not decades. Many people think that if you do not believe in global warming that you don't care about the planet. In our case nothing could be further from the truth, not only do we recycle, compost, use well water and grow our own vegetables we also limit our consumption of all fuels, this includes heating and transportation. We do these things because we feel it is a responsible way to live not because of political pressure or political deception.

Everyone should do their part to protect and improve the environment, regardless of their stance on global warming. It is only when issues get so outrageously politicized that people choose sides and everybody loses. The mainstream media falls in lock step with the government most of the time and global warming has been their pet project for a decade now. That would be the same decade where worldwide temps have actually remained flat.

If someone believes so strongly about global warming they should modify their mainstream media intake to include articles and stories to include the other side of the equation. When you begin to get a balanced picture you can begin to see the deception. When you begin to see the deception (by omission, manipulation of facts, lying and clever wording) the light goes off very brightly.

Here is an article that is quite short that explains in pretty clear terms the global warming/climate change deception (http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2013/08/21/the-new-york-times-global-warming-hysteria-ignores-17-years-of-flat-global-temperatures/).
