TERROR MESSAGE: Please stay calm, carry on Australia

September 10, 2014

AUSTRALIANS will be told to keep calm and carry on in the likely event ASIO’s director-general David Irvine raises the national security threat from medium to high by week’s end.

As both the AFL and rugby grand finals approach, and we tomorrow mark the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 suicide plane attacks on Manhattan and Washington DC, the Federal Government is anxious that people not panic and go about their normal lives.

It also wants anyone who suspects they know dangerously radicalised people to speak up now.

The government is currently formulating a careful public response to the new threat and will try to strike a balance between raising public awareness of suspicious activities while trying not to cause fright.

Mr Irvine has indicated he is considering raising the current terror threat from the longstanding medium status, meaning that a “terrorist attack could occur” to high, which states that “a terrorist attack is likely.”

The highest of the four levels in Australia is extreme, meaning an attack is imminent or has just occurred.

Professor Greg Barton from Monash University, director of the Global Terrorism Research Centre, said visible changes had not been seen on the streets of the UK since it raised its terror alert to “severe” a fortnight ago and we could expect the same here.

“Perhaps some annoying delays going to sporting venues and boarding planes, but this is also intended to prompt people to speak up,” he said.

“If they have concerns and have been on the edge of speaking out, it’s hoped this will shift them into taking action. Maybe they have been to the police and not got a receptive audience. Now they will be listened to.

“The real hope now is that it will encourage people who think they know radicalised people to speak up.”

Part of the concern, according to Mr Irvine’s comments to the ABC’s 7.30 Report, is that some 20 jihadists have already arrived back in Australia after fighting in Syria or Iraq.

It is likely that some of them are now under constant surveillance, although it is not clear how they were able to re-enter Australia unnoticed.

It is also possible that some of those who returned were not supporters of the Islamic State, or ISIS, but instead went to Syria with the sole purpose of supporting rebels fighting the army of President Bashar al-Assad.

However, the Syrian war has changed nature and morphed into ISIS, and many who went to Syria have been radicalised.

The standard advice from the government’s Australian National Security site is that people should continue their lives as normal.

“There is no reason for any of us to stay away from public places or change our normal routines or domestic holiday plans,” says the advice.

“It is essential that we do not allow the threat of terrorism to change the way of life we value so highly.”

It says if there was any credible threat of a specific planned attack, people would be advised well in advance.

As to the increase in action by officers from the Australian Federal Police and ASIO, Professor Barton said they were mostly putting in longer hours at the office, and hoping for strong information from the public.

“We might see more armed officials, more thorough checks taking place, but most of the work in intelligence is not stuff we see.”

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison told ABC radio we were “living in very uncertain times, the issues in Iraq and Syria are not just occurring there in terms of their potential reach, they can reach countries such as Australia”.

He said Australians could expect longer delays boarding planes as checks became more thorough, though there was no suggestion from Mr Morrison that there was specific advice about a direct threat in the skies.

I'm going to the AFL grand final in a couple of weeks. I must admit Jacko i flinched for a second when i saw this article on the train this morning after reading your false flag warning to recently. Only a temporary flinch though. I'd say an inner city train station is more likely, easier to pull off and equally effective at doing damage and striking fear.

Go you swannies!!!!

This is getting a little more concerning. I work in one of the 5 sydney hospitals that had bomb threats at the same time 2 days ago. Prince of Wales Hospital had a full evacuation as did one of our major shopping centres, Westfields. There have been multiple other bomb threats the last few days.

http://www.news.com.au/national/police-called-to-sydney-hospitals-after-apparent-bomb-threat/story-fncynjr2-1227059236705

My mate works for the NSW police and just messaged me to say that either something big is going down over the next week or they will stop something big going down as all police have been called onto duty - effectively twice the police presence as per normal.

This is obviously not to scare people, but perhaps just keep your wits about you, and if you really don't need to be in a public pace for any extended period of time, best not be.

Take care guys.

Regardless of how false the flag is, it can result in real deaths and injury - so if the bastards pull any kind of a stunt to try and bring the Aussie populace to heel let us hope they don't get carried away
there is an increase in the global chaos barometer - they are bringing it to a climax in coming months, I think now is the time to really prepare and get yourself an alternative, a haven and escape route
who knows what eventual form the 'big one' will take, good luck to us all and keep up the spirits.

STRIKING BACK ON HOME SOIL: Largest terror raid in history

18 Sept 2014

http://resources2.news.com.au/images/2014/09/18/1227062/163390-terror-raids-sydney.jpg

ASIO and the Australian Federal Police have launched a number of raids across homes in Sydney and Brisbane this morning in the largest anti-terrorism bust in the nation’s history.

NSW Police confirmed arrests have been made in the early morning raid, but it is as yet unclear how many. It is believed dozens of suspects have been taken into custody.

The operation is understood to have been given the all clear after months of surveillance of Australians believed to be linked to extremist terror group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The strikes were reportedly pre-emptive in nature, and were linked to a Brisbane man who was recently arrested on suspected terrorism related charges.

Victoria Police confirmed are were no anti-terror raids in Melbourne as a co-ordinated operation unfolds in Brisbane and Sydney.

Authorities believe a terrorist network had been planning a number of attacks in Australia.

The Daily Telegraph reports at least 600 officers from the Australian Federal Police, ASIO officers and the NSW counter terrorism unit launched the strikes before dawn this morning.

Nine News is reporting forensic officers are on the scene at the Guilford raids and it appeared that police had siezed cash.

According to a statement, the arrests followed the execution of “a number of search warrants” in Beecroft, Bella Vista and Castle Hill in the city’s northwest, and Guildford, Merrylands, Northmead, Wentworthville, Marsfield, Westmead, Castle Hill, Revesby, Bass Hill and Regents Park in the west.

Australian Federal Police are also executing warrants in Brisbane.

The southern suburbs of Mt Gravatt East, Logan and Underwood are being targeted in the raids.

A spokesman for AFP said police were executing three search warrants in the Brisbane operation. There are unconfirmed reports several arrests have been made.

The operation follows the arrests of two men with terror links in South East Queensland last week.

It is reported a terrorist network was planning specific attacks.

The operation is still underway.

Last week, outgoing director-general of ASIO David Irvine told ABC’s 7.30 the threat of an attack has been building over the last year, and that he has an “elevated level of concern”.

“In Australia, we’ve been very lucky in that we have avoided an attack on Australian soil ... but we’ve also had to stop terrorist attacks occurring in Australia.

“We are certainly aware of people wanting to conduct terror attacks in the west and in Australia. We are facing a persistent threat.”

The national security level alert was raised from “medium” to “high” last Friday.

It is believed the size of the raid eclipsed that of Operation Pendennis in 2005 when several hundred ASIO, AFP and NSW police arrested 13 men across Melbourne and the Sydney suburb of Bankstown, who had been planning bomb attacks in both capitals.

The raids come a day after a Sydney-based money transfer business owned by the sister and brother-in-law of convicted Sydney terrorist Khaled Sharrouf was shut down amid concerns it was being used to funnel funds to the Middle East to finance terrorism.

The Lakemba remittance provider, Bisotel Rieh Pty Ltd, owned by Damour Sharrouf and her husband Ahmed Alwash, was suspended after they could not account for millions of dollars transferred to Turkey and Lebanon.

- More to come
