Thanks for the post..

Just a side note the NSW news article uses: Mrs Marlene Freitas, but the official military report, made 7 months prior, her name is: Mrs Mauro Freitas Soares...

What follows is a summary made by me.

The file contains mostly documents of Brazilian authorities, including local police stations (cities in which the phenomena occurred), conversations between air traffic control and aircraft pilots also spotted anomalies.
In addition, reports from local newspapers interviewing residents who witnessed an explosion in the sky.
Some fragments fell on the roof of the house of a resident of the city of Macaé, Rio de Janeiro and were sent for analyzes at the Institute Carlos Ébolli (picture posted in the topic: INFORME (report) NR 0454).
The speculations of newspapers ranging from pieces of satellites which entered the Earth's atmosphere, passing through secret espionage probes in order to extraterrestrial objects.
A resident of one of the houses damaged by the remaining fragments of the explosion said he started feeling strange pains in his right hand which had contact with the object suspected to be radioactive.
The aeronautical authorities sent their agents to collect all available information on the ufo and the circumstances of the incident.

Thank you naste.de.lumina. The Brazilian document indicates that the object fell onto Mr Freitas' roof but, in the English article, Mrs Freitas says that it fell on the neighbor's roof...

Chilliburger, the article in English was published 7 months after the events because it happened on 7th January 1983. I think Mrs Marlene Freitas is the wife of Mr Mauro Freitas Soares...

It seems like no explanation was given by the officials (that we know of) so it's probably a cover-up or some classified military material as suggested by 778 neighbour of some guy.

Thank you naste.de.lumina. The Brazilian document indicates that the object fell onto Mr Freitas' roof but, in the English article, Mrs Freitas says that it fell on the neighbor's roof...

Specifically looking at the reports of Mr. Freitas in newspaper clippings of the document, he apparently describes two versions

First report (Objeto não identificado cai sobre os Cavaleiros) says that he was resting in his room when he heard a kind of buzz, followed by a noise impact. When investigating found that there was a hole in the roof of your home and the object issued a glowing green phosphorescent light for five minutes before turning out.

In the second report (pensei que fosse um missel) he says he was in his room with his wife when he heard a buzzing and looking up saw a luminous object at a speed of about 200km / h that moved toward his house . Through the window the couple watched the object that crashed into the roof of the neighboring house throwing fragments several meters away.

QUEDA DE OBJETO METÁLICO NAO IDENTIFICADO EM MACAÉ/RJ informe 0454. (FALLING METALLIC OBJECT NOT IDENTIFIED IN MACAÉ / QC report 0454)

This document is recorded that the object fell upon the house of Mr. Freitas.

Sorry my friends but ..National Enquirer???
"UFO Drops Mysterious Flaming Objects on Terror-Stricken Town" and "BIZARRE OBJECTS from UFO are made of substance still unknown on Earth" ???

-At page 15 from PDF document: (more conclusive IMHO)
Document Header
"Centro Integrado de Defesa Aérea e Controle de Tráfego Aéreo ( integrated center for air defense and air traffic control )"
..message obtained through the USAF attache explained by items three (3) and four (4), it appears that the observed phenomenon was, in all probability, caused by the reentry of body from a Russian rocket, "Molniya 3", released on March 11, 1983, with final fall at the point of coordinates 58950'S / 034920'W.

i'm just wondering what the police officers thought about the incident: "Damn it !! those Russians again!!!!"! or maybe: "Klingons??"

Thanks korgh. I agree with the fact that the National Enquirer is not a reliable source. I posted it only because it was the only document in English.

However, "Molniya 3", released on March 11, 1983 is written "Molniya 3", lancado no dia 11 de Marco de 1983 which translate by "Molniya 3", launched on March 11, 1983 as confirmed on this page (http://www.n2yo.com/satellite/?s=13875).

You will notice that the newspaper clippings relating the story are dated "janeiro 1983" which translate by "January of 1983" so it could not have been the Molniya 3 which was launched only 2 months later (in March)...

While I think the object (the photo published by the National Enquirer) is man-made, there is still no official explanation for what happened over Mr Freitas' house on the 7th of January...

Hi buares,
Good catch!

That's true. Someone messed up the information intentionally or just for ignorance. The National Enquirer is just a tabloid, losing credibility along years with news like this one.
Don't get me wrong. Thank you for your info and effort to bring us these documents.
As you know, in 1983 there wasn't free speech as we know today in Brazil and unfortunately, the misinformation was very usual among the press. Still happens nowadays all over the world but even powerful in the latin america, mainly with all corruption out there.
IMHO, the object was just space junk, nothing more. Almost every thing that happens on that continent are explained as something from outer space, from some bad entity or just from heaven.. There are a minority who believes and still are thinking rationally but very few.
I never had notice about this incident and is interesting how some papers like that came to the mass knowledge.
Thanks.

Cheers.

Here is a 1986 video:

"One of the most important footages about UFOs in Brazil, with public declarations of high rank military officials confirming they spotted, chased and were chased by UFOs for many hours."
