I did not send US troops to Iraq.
I did not order planes to drop bombs in Syria.

The ubiquitous "we" is used to cause the people to identify with their rulers. If "we" sent troops to Iraq, then "we" assume partial guilt for the action. No way in hell will I accept guilt for what they are doing. And, no, before some smart mouth points out the taxes I pay(that somehow means that whatever they do with my money means I "support" the action), I feel strongly enough against what THEY are doing that I make certain I earn less money than would be legally required for me to be forced (at gunpoint, euphemistically or not) to pay their extortion demands.

ETA: PS - and I live very well on my minuscule amount of money. The key is knowing how to do it.
