Hi guys. I'm not only looking for creative and conscious people to make art with - I would also just love to hear yours. So if you have any material to share please do so here. As for what this thread is about - anything related to art/music/poetry in the struggle for a better world. I would like to see more communication through the arts here, to balance out the threads that lean more toward the dry social / theoretical commentary.
So I will post something soon, I just have to decide what. I have both poems and recorded music, so whichever you prefer. I don't have much .. so I might drip feed it. Hehe.
I wouldn't mind meeting people who know how to use audio interfaces and create digital music. My forte is acoustic music, guitar and whistles/harmonica mainly - and I'd love to collaborate on line. I can sing, sort of, it depends on my health.
Just for the record my two favourite bands right now are Tool and Radiohead. Though I am mostly a folk musician I am very open to branching out into a more experimental route. Right now the album I'm working on is quite celtic and 'world music' orientated.
I'm really digging mash ups/mixes of both bands. I literally swear on my walk home today I had an eargasm listening to this. Couldn't stop smiling. Strangers giving me looks. haha!

Some youtube comments from this video
"I surrender myself to this song with no shame. On my knees, arms stretched to the sky on the many cloudy days in the UK Waiting in doubt for a single ray of sun to break through warming me, allowing me to see. My mind is full of flashbacks of all of the good & bad things I've ever done as well as the risks & opportunities I should have or have not taken. My soul bound with warm tears dripping from my face Then like the burst of all that is pure. I am now free as I am at 3:46 the clouds fall to the ground all around me, I'm blinded with what I have been awaiting. All goes serene as a few visions float in front of me allowing me to see what could be before me in time. Then suddenly I realise, what was behind me and could be before me, keeps me happily here at this moment with my children. I know this was a bit long, I listen to this song every day to return exactly where I am, with the most precious of all, my boys."
"like 7 minutes of floating to the bottom of the ocean, not knowing how to swim, but slowly learning how to breathe under water..."

This one is for now called 'Warriors' - The general theme I think is: Things are bad - where's your warrior spirit... we're searching for it. It's not finished. It may pick up a bit in the latter half which hasn't been written yet. Forgive mistakes as these are drafts :-)

I'll leave this to your imagination! I do sing in this one. :P

Hi Iarmhéid,
Welcome to Avalon! And thanks for starting this thread and sharing this beautiful music. I love it!
I have written poetry off and on at different times in my life, but have been experiencing writer's block for a while now. Maybe this thread will get my creative juices flowing again. If so, I'll post what I come up with.
Warm regards,
Nancy

Uncle GR used to write songs and perform in Nashville , I have about 300 songs copyrighted , been playing guitar for about 35 years ... I was one of the first to play live at the Bluebird Café when it launched it's very first live internet broadcast ...music is the only thing that causes humans to use all of their brains , when you get down to it , the whole of nature can inspire you if you look and listen ... I believe my myspace page is still up where you can hear four or five of my tunes I played when I was touring around ... I got a little airplay years ago in Germany , the Netherlands , Japan , and parts of Europe ... humans are recievers , musicians are broadcasters , songwriters/artist are both ...

I'm an opera singer by profession (I'm inwardly shuddering at the fact that I'm now in my 40th yr. on the stage); my voice was previously recorded on several pirated opera recordings but they've all now been deleted looong time ago for obvious reasons- doesn't matter- I could care less- I never received any financial kick-back from any pirated opera performances in which I was involved (no-one did);
am not sure I'd be able to make "art" with anyone else on this website (how could I?) but just wanted to state that anyone on this website who is either a professional/layman musician has my support; music is one of the most beautiful things in our perception of reality-

So happy this new thread was started up. Here's the final redo of a musical accompaniment for a song that Amethyst wrote and sung that I created via Mixcraft this morning.
The song is called "So Far So Near". Had a couple of false starts on this one but now I think I'm back in the groove. :)
Here are the lyrics:
Feeling as if I'm from another planet
A place that's so very far away from here
Lonely, cuz they are just like how I am
Harmonious in place of individuality
Where is this place, that is so far and yet so near.
Where is this place, that is so far and yet so near.

Thanks! Keep it coming. Tonight I'll try to post something, though I may remove it after a while as none of its finished and I just don't like the idea of unfinished work drifting around the net ;)
I'll see what I can come up with too. Just bought a lovely new guitar that I'm getting tomorrow.. can't wait to start recording with her :-)
Edit: Trying not to post too much so I edited in my links at my post at the top. Check it out. And if you walked in here... do please share! (Specially poets)

Hi Iarmhéid,
I really love your music Coopers Hill and Warriors, especially the later because I feel it's doing something to my heart chakra, I am really moved @@
I can play the piano a bit, didn't not really enjoy the learning and practising when I was young....except sometimes I am awakened by the sounds from my dream and I found playing them make me peaceful. If you are not offended by an untuned piano and not a very skilled player, here is one I recorded: https://siddham.bandcamp.com/track/nyat-or-emptiness , the title is from a buddhist term I really liked.

Thanks ! No I just like the Gaelic language / Celtic music / history of Ireland and mythology etc. I also feel like one of my main strengths is bringing balance between opposing forces or energies so, hence the name. I know there are a few words for balance in Gaelic ( I know very little about the language ) but I'm not sure what the context of this version I used would be.

Here's me having fun on the mixboard too. Sang a song into my laptops' microphone but at least the instrumentals and harmonies that I added sound pretty good. Just having fun! :)
Had the you tube link of the vid where I'm singing that song but am a little too shy about keeping it posted here so I deleted it. :o

In the late 90s and early 2000s i was active as an MC "master of ceremony in the hiphop culture of my country when i see old stuff in youtube people consider it as old school which is quite funny to me ;)
Today im not realy active anymore maybe i should ;)

Well, you know how contemporary music is, if you blink, everything that was "in" yesterday is "out" today. Really hard to keep up with what's trending in any given week... or moment, for that matter.

Hi there
I write poetry, totally suck at traditional singing but absolutely love something called harmonic mediation which is based on singing sounds and words following one's inner rhythm and intuition.Anything out of the traditional sphere talks to me !

Hi,
I just posted this poem on facebook:
Broken Wings
Come let me wrap you in my arms,
Embraced and shielded from all harm.
Let peace now silence the alarm
And quell the ever raging storm
That once tossed you to and fro
Despite your fear and even though
Your tortured mind was caught in throes
Of fits of fads that comes and goes.
Lost and brittle wings unfurl,
Softest breeze like petals curl,
In around and enfold the pearl
Of your heart against a wild world
That schemes to rend then run it through
In spite my nerve or may just due
Or even just because it’s true
I must now walk where once I flew.
Love lets down its fiery mane,
Auburn locks gets tossed again.
Like days of yore before the feign
That would become our fearful bane
Did mix the sun with cold and rain
And counter to our sovereign hope
Enthralled our minds in empty rote
Of frozen thoughts like knots in rope.
Naught but black and battered bruises,
Yields the fruit of mad refusals,
To take the yoke and bear abuses
While being put to evil uses
Then forced to grin and celebrate
Against all odds and without fate
A pompous palsy potentate
Whose hunger never satiates.
So let me wrap you in my arms,
Accept this balm of soothing alms.
Smote I the demon of false claims
At great cost I thwarted its aims
‘Till warmth flowed and icicles dripped
My heart then freed of its icy crypt
Words I spoke that rewrote the writ
And my dark mind’s lamp was relit.
