China has claimed to have built the world's fastest supercomputer, underlining its rise as a science and technology powerhouse.
The Tianhe-1 machine, housed at the National Centre for Supercomputing in the northern port city of Tianjin, is capable of sustained computing of 2.507 petaflops, the equivalent of 2,507 trillion calculations, per second.

Yet another interesting news from China :)

I could not help but notice the wording of the before last paragraph in the article:

"The announcement highlighted how China is using rapid economic growth and sharp increases in research spending to join the United States, Europe and Japan in the global technology elite."

Europe is being cited along US, Japan and China as already being a self standing state. It does not say Germany, France or UK... it simply says Europe :). So all the Europeans should be glad, they have a state and it is part of the global technology elite!

Soon will be hearing something like: "Eur-Asia has taken its place along UN and African Union in implementing a completely digital currency..." (I am just kidding of course!)

... in the public domain.

:)

There is a lot of 'remarkable ' news in MSM in China ... question is what the real source is for all this news.
I am still trying to get some detailed answers ... but the reason behind it may not be so 'liberating' as we might expect.

And in other news....

Study: Laptops with WiFi can cause sperm damage (http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=160158&catid=339)

DENVER - As little as four hours of exposure to laptops with WiFi can damage sperm, according to a recent study by the American Society for Reproduction in Denver.

"This is the first scientific study showing that a laptop computer connected by WiFi may damage DNA and decrease sperm motility," Conrado Avendano, Research Director at the Nascentis Reproductive Medical Center in Argentina, stated in a news release Wednesday.

Avendano says if men are trying to have children, they should not work with a WiFi-enabled laptop near their lap, or should instead connect to the Internet using cables.
Certainly would solve China's "one-child" problem.

Always knew there was a good reason for using my laptop on a table.
