Have moved from meat to a vegan lifestyle, predominantly anyway. Have been exploring preseriving foods now also. At this point have been brought to probiotics and have to say am really enjoying this, so I wanted to share with others. This is the video that introduced me to fermentation of food. This has multiple health benefits but you know what, I just like how it tastes. Its good and you may like it also. The other thing I like is that it can be preserved, something that just gives you a little sense of I dont need to eat this now... meaning you can turn to it at another time.

Pro (as opposed to anti) biotics I am pleased to have been introduced to. Have not watched much more videos of John Bergman's but this one is good for me. If you listen to the last five minutes of the video the talk covers pro-biotics curing chrons dis-ease within 30 days I think... so that might give an idea of how it could help you and others.

To add regarding preserving fermented food... (which I have not tried but will be)

sometimes returning to the old ways are some of the best ways

I've been a consumer of raw kombucha for several years now and have become "devoted" to the pro-biotic drink. I had to laugh, one day while buying my weekly supply, the young man ahead of me in the check out was also buying it and he got carded!!! Because it is fermented it has a very small amount of alcohol. The taste is reminiscent of vinegar but it is a taste I've become accustom to. Just one of the healthy things I do for this old temple I live in.

We have a wonderful 26 page thread on this here at Avalon already. It's taught me a great deal and I'm very grateful for it....

See it here-

kombuch ;)

This is a great product, a healthy yeast that can work wonders.

I used to brew my own in large scale amounts, with 2 new brews started every day.

I used to suffer with bad sin conditions, which at it's worst it became the weeping kind, nothing really worked until I started bathing in the kombuch (Which is why I was brewing so much!)

Wiped over a wound in has the effect of creating a antiseptic coating. (Great for keeping burns clean)

Another example to show it's worth is that Russian Army used to have inter Regiment contests as to who had brews the strongest version.

Note to self: Must start brewing it again (For myself of course)

PS: if you do start brewing it make sure you don't make the mistake of letting fumes get to your cupboards metal hinges! it will eat them! so good is it's possible metal cleansing attributes.

Please note: All my above comments are based on my own past examples and good results with kombuch ( as should be noted with anybody's personal, health and medical recommendations!)

Tea has a lot of fluoride in it. The tea plant apparently soaks up flouoride into its leaves in a way that's safe to the tea plant, but meant as a defense mechanism against animals eating it. At least that's the theory.

Most kombucha is made from tea leaves. However, it can be made with yerba mate, or, if you want to also avoid caffeine, plaintain leaves and blackberry leaves will work for brewing kombucha too. The idea is to go for leaves that have tannins but not a lot of essential oils.

Nice angle bs, I used to make kombucha, had some nice big glass jars, grew the mushroom, the drink was amazing. It's amazing easy with a little patience, I take it you buy this yerba mate, plantain and blackberry leave at some pretty exotic health food stores?

Every now and then I buy a bottle of kombucha brewed locally from yerba mate leaves. I used to brew my own from various brands of organic green tea leaves, and I drank it regularly, but the thought of the fluoride I was ingesting began to bother me so I stopped. Also I've become more sensitive to the way caffeine makes me feel, and I can tell how it makes me tired after its effects wear off (it causes small amounts of adrenaline to be released, which is at least part of where the energy boost comes from).

Here's a page listing things that kombucha can be brewed from:

http://www.organic-kombucha.com/Using_herbal_teas_for_kombu.html

A good list of herbal medicinal that may be used without worry follows:

Aniseed, young blackberry or raspberry leaf and berry, chicory root,
club moss, dandelion, elder flowers and berries,
fennel, hibiscus flower, nettle leaf, oat straw,
rooibos tea(red bush tea), plantain leaf, rose hips common,
yerba maté leaf, and valerian root.

I boiled up some blackerry leaves, plantain and dandelion once to see what it was like, and it wasn't too bad. The taste wasn't as delicate as green tea but it still tastes "green" and I'm sure a solid kombucha could be brewed from it. I have yet to use these things to brew kombucha. I haven't brewed kombucha since I stopped drinking so much green and black tea.

When I was drinking the kombucha I was brewing, I felt amazing. I seemed to feel happiness more often and more strongly, for no particular reason, except maybe the fact that I was enjoying raw, home-made kombucha. ;)
