Are the thread titles on the internet (this forum to some small extent??) becoming a bit ridiculous?
All you have to do is write headlines using this structure:
Number + Adverb + Adjective + Topic + Focus + Benefit/Effect.
It appears that the formula to "grabbing someones attention" has been found, and naturally it has spread (unwittingly for the most part I'm sure) like wild fire across the internet.
P.A. (project avalon) Is apparently not immune. This fascinating topic refereed to as "click bait" seems to be an unstoppable presence that one cannot help but succumb to, the alternative is obscurity and lack of attention, or so we seem to think.
While the internet is a great tool, it can make things too easy it seems; this sword has two edges.

Yes, it is rife - I do quite a lot of work in the internet marketing space and that is just rotten with festering pustules of insincere bull**** - I can tell you 5 reasons why you need to read my blog and click on every link that will transform your life from a drab grey depressive Sargasso sea of inaction , into a hyper dimensional nuclear furnace of dynamism right now!

Headlines surely grab my attention, but I then look for the name of the thread starter, thence decided if it's worth my time to open for a look.
TargeT, your the reason I decided to look at this thread.

I was a bit intoxicated and frustrated at the moment of posting, hopefully the message wasn't too muddled; but thank you for the vote of confidence.

I don't know why, but I feel so used now after watching the video you posted. Nothing against you mate because it was very informative, but as someone who is studying journalism and computer science, I can now see how easy it is to manipulate the masses.

This is really unfortunate and we all hate to waste time but these types of headlines are simply a fact of life. What is also very unfortunate is that the mainstream media now has learned that they can run with headlines that bear no resemblance to the story underneath those headlines. You see this all the time in political headlines and especially global warming headlines. They have learned that the headline is a very powerful tool in swaying public opinion. Few people read the entire story but virtually everyone reads the headline. This is nothing less than subliminal lying and virtually everyone falls for it!
I think we will see over time changes being implemented on websites and blogs similar to sites that sell "stuff". Reviews and a rating system that lets you know about a sellers last 20/50 or 100 items they have sold. There are already steps being taken to implement change, like fact checker. The problem is that even the fact checkers have an agenda but this will come full circle and we will have something we can "eventually trust".
In the meantime that old saying still holds true............if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If it sounds too good to be true............ it is probably a waste of your valuable time.
When we understand that life and death happen almost simultaneously and how little time we 'really' have on this earth we will be loathed to waste even a minute!
