View Full Version : How Do You Pronounce The Name 'Jesus'?

I would like to call upon Jesus as he would have been called upon many years ago. It just doesn't seem authentic to call him as he is called in English. I have come across so many different pronunciations. The one I am most fond of, and which I use, is 'Issa'. Sri Sathya Sai Baba stated that this is his true name, and that, if you repeat it over and over, you start saying Sai Baba's name, 'Sai'.

I am sure that there is a definitive pronunciation that his followers and disciples called him by.

I would like to call upon Jesus as he would have been called upon many years ago. It just doesn't seem authentic to call him as he is called in English. Not sure why it would make a difference what he was called many years ago. After all, I'm sure those money-changers in the temple had a few choice names to call him. It's a new day. Like thunder24 says, what does your heart say?

Look at it this way, suppose you're out in the middle of the woods just chillin'. Like that avatar thunder24 has. That's you, just soaking up the beauty of all that surrounds you. You're in a state of love. Then I come slowly walking by, enraptured in that same state of love that you are. We are both feeling it. With a smile on my face, and a slight wave of my hand I say "Hey Tall Dude. Beautiful day. Nice seeing you". And I continue on my way. Would it matter that I called you Tall Dude?

Now then, there's nothing wrong with wanting to know what his name was back then. Nice thing to ponder. But the bottom line is, there's no way of knowing for certain. :)

Brother Yeshua, God's son. No J in the Hebrew language, it's always been a Y.

Hey Zeus perhaps? That would certainly fit with the habit of recycling/reinventing man-made deities/idols.

If you talk to 'spiritual beings' you have to talk to them from heart, not from head .

Many people get this really wrong , in all traditions, repeating mantras or special names .. thousand and million times .. it merely distracts and occupies their minds .
They think they do 'sadhana' of a deity , or talk to Angels but in fact, they usually attract couple of lower spirits because the energy is 'high' but spirit does not reach to where it is calling .

I suppose .. to call upon someone .. from heart .. may make you feel shy and bit uncomfy for few seconds, like dialling an unknown number .
Think of a reason of why do you really want to speak to the 'person' and think if your intents ( credits in that matter ) are sufficient .

Don't call Sai Baba or any other teacher day and night in vane , unless you have a heart reason. If you have one , on the other hand ... they usually respond fast .

A new young boy came to the school group, we asked his name, and it sounded like Hey Zeus.... the mother then wrote it down for us, and she wrote Jesus.

Well, that's likely Spanish pronunciation of the name .

It is not so much in the pronunciation of the name as it is the intent you have by invoking the name. The intent is everything especially if it comes from your heart of hearts.

Brother Yeshua

Yes, if you want to talk to him like your best friend, or your brother, as if you were sitting around a warm fire or across the dinner table, I would address him as Yeshua. This was his name during his Jesus incarnation at the beginning of the Picean Age, and this is what he prefers to be called.

Why do you want to call upon the name of Jesus?

some of the more fundamental moderns pronounce it "Yeshua", because Jesus is a derivative of Joshua, meaning "deliverer".

Joshua being the one who with Aaron and Moses delivered the chosen people from Egypt.

I think!! :yell:

...and if you say the name of one who loves you the most that name will be changed so that no one knows it .
For it was him who whispered to you , your name and his name ...

he speaks only to whisper people

Jesus was man, and that was a false name given by the designers of the religion. What you seek is The Christ, that which the man hosted.

Hi guys, and thanks for your answers. Very thought provoking. I found the following on the net, which seems more like 'Eashoa' (phon.) than 'Yeshua', but very close.
