Some people post banal items just to push important stuff down the PA page- fact-
Do you know anyone that could be doing this?
You know the sort of thing I mean - no actual personal input just headlines that usually are taken from other sites - they are- I believe, paid to do this... Keep your eyes peeled.;)
You know who you are- and so do we- we use you to know when something important has been posted-- because you become very active... LOL :faint2::biggrin1:

And so begins Avalon's 1000th witch hunt...
If you have concerns tell a mod or the admin, they can then monitor the situation without all the fear porn and finger pointing. :)

If someone suspects or considers other users as displaying characteristics, behavior, or activity that could indicate the presence of a shill or other form of undesirable, it would probably be best to contact a Moderator or Administrator. For one, that's their job, and for two they have more resources available to validate or invalidate the perception.

The real problem as I see it, is not Shills per say, but rather so called normal folk who chime in on a topic or post, often to highly distracting effect. The paid actors, if they are any good at their job, will goad the norms into flaming or flailing out, so more often than not, WE are the biggest shills of all. The worst part is that for the most part we all do it subconsciously, not seeing our actions as disruptive but rather as insightful or challenging... We are all guilty of it from time to time, us non paid shills I mean, something grabs our attention or tweaks our emotions and we're off....
Also, the act of reading or viewing is completely subjective. What I may see as harmless banter you may see as an insiduous plot to derail the message, or vise versa. For a fictional ad hoc example, the starting posts above in this thread could be read as genuine concern by honest non shill like members to root out cointelpro at its core within the forum, or they could be read as three team members playing a clever coordinated shell game with our perceptions.. The perception is the reality, even if it does not correspond to any facts or any so called truths...
How people post stuff, or the fact people repost other non forum peoples info and stuff should not be cause for concern IMHO. From one member to another, let's please be carefull where and at who we start pointing fingers, shills exist, they are here, but like the hydra, if we COULD find them and be sure of our findings, if we could chop them out as members, many many more would grow up in their place. For my part, I try to focus on the message, but I'm only human, so am susceptible to getting over emotional when fired up, sorry in advance... N

LOL never say sorry I take your point- you have shown me yet another prism to this mirror- are we all shills?
Surely ones intent makes one a shill or not. Perhaps we all have our motives.
Did you feel I pointed my finger at something intentionally? Or is the practice that obvious you had noticed it also?
Perhaps it is best to watch the activity and observe what they wish to steer us away from. I know they are doing the best they can.
So am I. Never doubt this- in love and peace always.

Good call Nasu... on the emotional, subconscious, trigger aspect, that's why we need things like transcendence, forgiveness, and living in the moment... and ultimately creativity will overcome scripted behaviour. Be creative, speak your truth...

Keep your eyes peeled and never get off the boat, absolutely goddam right.. When you notice a trend, log it, mentaly or buy a notebook and see how their posts progress, if your gut tells you not to trust a certain member or group of members, then don't trust them. It is a puzzle for the mind, on the same level as a crossword or sudoku, when we cannot fathom the true cause or source of a problem fully, we need to simply do as the ancients did, meditate on these words - who gains? Ask yourself does their message support, attack or negate the larger message under discussion, I'm a great beleaver in trusting our gut feelings..
However, that being said, running about pointing and calling attention to cointelpro, but pointing in no particular direction, serves no one, in fact, it makes you a shill!!! By this very act of posting you have distracted both of us from seeing a real message that someone else may have posted. An inadvertent shill if you prefer.. I mean no offense, but my point is that it is very difficult to tell which distraction to our time is calculated and which is by happen chance.. Trust yourself, is my advice... N

This is a situation that supports 2 areas of posts.
IE 1 Important Posts, 2 All the other posts!
So Important posts and other not so important posts! This of course would mean more Mod Time :( and then the question 'Which is important posts' Most are obvious but some borderline ha :noidea:

I would wager that well in excess of 50% of of the threads on Avalon are started by people who have read an article or watched a video and they want to share that information with other members. I see no harm or foul play in that.
Also what you might consider a "banal item" might be a very hot topic for other members. Diversity is what keeps a forum vibrant and keeps the members interested.
Starting threads like this always make a few people feel like...............do people think that I am doing this! To a certain extent it curtails peoples freedom of expression.
My feeling is that if you suspect someone is "posting banal items" just to push the important stuff down the page..............take it up with the moderators but give them specific examples. It would be up to Bill and moderators to take any action if they feel it is warranted.

From a broad spectral perspective we are surrounded by the shill all the time from birth to death. The useful difference is in our level of awareness of this.
You can remove a shill like you would remove a brick from the wall but it will be replaced by a shill that you have yet to identify as such.
This thread has its place but it is also ironical if you are willing to look behind the curtain....

Perhaps this is just an awareness thread- we should all be mindful of the possibilities of manipulation with a forum such as Project Avalon.
I am made aware that some protest too much- it does not compromise me to talk of such things- why is this subject a hot topic to some I wonder?

I have often wondered what a 'shill' is. I have never seen or heard it used, except in American publications! I had worked out 'shills' are annoying, but I did not know it was organised annoyance. Sometimes though it's possible one person's 'shill' is another's interesting poster! (as rgray suggests).

It's you Sheme, you are the government plant - set to 'divide and conquer'...I notice you are a new kid..hmmm LOL Avalon is a vast forum and covers a huge variety of topics
it is big enough to absorb and spit out any 'shills' we are all too self obsessed and intent on getting our opinions across to take much notice anyway ..hehehe..............
I would not worry too much about shills, I see a lot of them on YouTube - on the really good UFO and black ops videos, sewing the seeds of doubt and scoffing - I go out of my way
to challenge them on there.

Just as a strictly light hearted take on this rather convoluted Thread:
Is Shemes' shaming shill really worth a shilling!
And yes, perceived Serial Shillers are mod' fodder... so when concerned give one of us a hoi, do!

Good thing your name isn't Shilliburger, of I would have assumed that Sheme was taking about you.
And am I derailing this thread if I mention (yet again) that the whole universe is inside each and every one of us?
Which would also include aliens and even shills.
How come that I began to see UFOs just two years after moving to Costa Rica, where I had been feeling more alien than in any other country I had ever lived in? And then it stopped, once I got used to the culture and learnt to forgive people for lying a lot.
And a shill is someone who is out to change the direction of a given group. I must confess now, that I honestly thought I could change Latino culture, if I just bitched enough about it.
But in the end I caved in, and allowed those who wanted to hate foreigners to have their fun with me. That was when my residency papers finally materialized. That was when my inner shill got adjusted to a higher reality.
So what am I doing here? I share. I don't judge, because wherever anyone stands that seems antagonistic, I've been there myself. We all will wake up eventually, even the most hardened shills.
It's all about becoming the salt of the earth, once you live here, and each in their own time.

Thanks to all contributing members- If I was a new watcher- I guess I could deduce from the politically correct comments that the consensus of this forum is that shill's are apart of life -get used to them/us/me OK! Fair enough -glad- we have cleared that one up.:tape2:
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do/say/ see nothing." (Edmund Burke) I guess this is how web sites get changed and manipulated that which was considered disruptive becomes becomes becomes......IS.
If anyone thinks I am a shill I guess I am in the wrong place.
But tough someone has to stir the waters.

But tough someone has to stir the waters.
The stirring waters are self perpetuating. From your perspective you stirred them but external to your perspective you are part of the stir.

I think each one of us is always in the right place at the right time (regardless of you being a shill, sheme. ;) I'm just joking... maybe.)!
No worries. I'm no saint myself. That's obvious. But, I wouldn't want me (or you) any other way.
This is my attempt at 'depth'. I'm not as good as ulli, but I'm working on it. :biggrin1:

I used to wonder why the mods tolerated the so called shills (and crazies self included),
then I remembered high school.......
the crappy teachers 'called out' the 'good' and 'bad' kids, labeled them mindlessly...
the talented teachers used the talents of the kids against each other in order to sharpen the mind.
@_@
i.e. the crowd will eventually roast a true troll much as a mob burns a witch,
and a true shill will be ignored or pointed out as such by said mob

Answering the question....What is a shill.....is analogous to mental shadowboxing.

This is a silly question and possible unintentional thread killer, but why would someone think the under cover ops would spend tens of thousands of dollars to post on websites like this? To a redneck like me, there are probably 25 to 50 regular posters on this site in a a world of over 6 billion people. I've been accused of all sorts of things and will vouch no one has ever paid me a dime.
Someone within the "cohesive" avalon community can say something extremely far fetched and have a dozen people agree, but then when photographic evidence (or any evidence for that matter) is requested a person is accused of being a shill, plant, or whatever the current term is.
Sometimes things really don't make sense to me

Shill is a label. Meta is a great word to introduce to this thread and this line of thinking. Focus on the truth behind the thought:
Why would someone DELIBERATELY LIE?
Each lie may have its own answer. We should root and question each one. Loving detachment helps, brutal honesty is essential, it is important to seek out the lies we tell ourself
