They are working on grafene batteries here in Spain, they are cheaper and lighter than
conventional batteries, the material is very hard and could be incorporated in the car's
structure such as doors etc. They charge very quickly, 8 minutes for 1000 km.
Sounds interesting...

You might like to research the problems of disposal of Graphene as is claimed to be one of the worst materials to ever have hit the Waste Disposal Business.

Thanks snoweagle, good to know, I thought it sounded too good to be true....

The disposal of Graphene is more encouraging – “… research finds the almost ubiquitous Shewanella bacteria capable of breaking down GO into graphene. Stacks of graphene, which are single-atom carbon layers, become graphite, which is considered ecologically benign. According to the researchers, the bacteria from the Shewanella family can also convert iron, chromium, uranium and arsenic compounds into less harmful substances and will be important to future bio-remediation efforts.”

Also it is very recyclable, the actual problem is the process of making it currently it is quite an explosive process, however in battery use compared with the negatives of lithium etc it seems to be a far more viable alternative mainly because you would get 500+ more re-charges before it needs to be recycled ...
Nothing is as perfect as Nature she uses carbon as her basic building block and with graphine we are approaching the carbon efficiencies that may well enhance our relationship with the nature of the planet. But we ants have a long way to go..

But they would claim that wouldn't they?

It's just that so many rare earth chemicals and plastic derivatives insulating and contaminating our environment and our own efforts to clean with more chemical concoctions is hardly restituting a healthy Earth. And Grafene adds to the list of new "invention solution" processes and joins the fleet of our economic woes.
Shame how we are so blind to our fickle brilliance.

Maybe , this is the of the reasons of OPECs recent white(peace, truce) flag on oil price.

the drop in the price of oil is about bleeding out the blood. bleeding out the last bits of functionality in the system. the boon in low gas prices is temporary, at best. when that system of production and delivery breaks down, which it will, due to these low prices, then we shall see the true state of the economy come home to roost.
In some countries, where the price of gas is due to local production, the price is being held artificially high in order to support the existing infrastructure. Where I'm at, it should be about 20-25% lower in price than it is, if it actually followed the price of a barrel of crude.
