Yes ~ well i'm hoping perhaps the Cuban's can teach 'US' something new in being thrifty and innovated ... ;)

This is just another ploy to introduce thousands of more immigrants in to the US and thousands of more people in to the Obamacare program. IMO it's foolish to think this is being done for "OUR" benefit! (or for the Cubans, except now they can come here more easily and be taxed or get on obamacare/welfare)

But it must be an alright thing; the Pope supports it!

There's a lot of pro's and con's in all this ...

But this action will allow for travel between countries more easy for friends and families ... And will finally end the economic/communication sanctions against the Cuban People. Note whatever new reality transpires will depend on
the intent of both nations people... i tend to weigh on the side of being positive in all this.

PS ~ this new actions also allows for the exchanging/freeing of both countries held/prison political detainees.

This isn't as easy as it appears. A lot of BIG steps need to be taken first by the repressive communist, terrorist harboring government of Cuba.

What a strange framing, as though they are mutually exclusive.

Obviously something is up on the geopolitical playing field ...And i am sure we will be seeing
lots of surprising maneuvering (between players) in the coming new year ...

Obama announces end to 50-year standoff with Cuba

"The US is set to re-establish diplomatic relations with Cuba after a more than 50-year standoff with the island nation. After finalizing a prisoner swap with Cuban President Raul Castro, US President Barack Obama addressed the nation, outlining a plan for improved relations. The economically devastating economic embargo on Cuba, however, will remain in place. Eva Golinger, journalist and host of RT Spanish’s “Detrás de la noticia,” has more on the historic move."

Yes, Camilo. A lot of BIG steps need to be taken also by the repressive, fascist, terrorist government of the USA. I think that Obama was saying that the USA tried for 53 years to cause a collapse of the Cuban economy and government and the USA has failed.

I agree with Sheme................

I guess the states feels it is better to have Cuba with us versus agin us when it comes to continuing to brew up WWIII. However not a smart move IMHO as they have been enemies for far too many years for any kind of true loyalty should WWIII become a reality!!!

It is a geographic/political move that will blow up in their face unless the warring mindset changes.

From my perspective ... geopolitics and personal biases aside ...

i find it refreshing in that the United States is once again behaving with some common sense.
Cuba, is a very close neighbor. and whenever neighbors begin interacting and communicating
openly, things tend to get better for all. Time to heal some wounds.

United States behaving with some common sense ... while pushing towards a nuclear war ... hmmmm.

Well, yes, of course it would be better to have Cuba as a regional friend as opposed to harboring nuclear missiles ... you know ... like the USA is trying to do with Ukraine???

... but what would I ... as a common useless eater ... know about such matters???

Good point.

Cuba must be part of the North American Union (although I missed that if it is, in fact, the case)

What are normal ties? One cannot forget the past, one must heal the past first then move forward. Who at the time of the Cuban missile crisis could of imaged this occurring, yet it proves a point that all the problems we have with each other is transitional and for the moment, it pasts, I wish we could learn this learn without all the waste of lives, energy and resources.
