I find it interesting after all the revelations from GoodETxSG about Breakaway Civilizations to notice how much the concept has existed in fiction and also in the intention behind some of the real science. If there really is a Secret Space Program (I believe there probably is) it is fascinating to notice possible clues. Or maybe if it is in our collective consciousness it means it will manifest, even if travel at the speed of light and to the stars, does not already exist. It's only a matter of a few years before it exists in the mainstream media as a reality.
My skeptic husband was surprised this week to find NASA videos discussing testing for Warp speed and discussing the theoretical and very real theory behind it. I was looking for the video and stumbled across an article describing a new mini series launching Dec. 15 2014 about a Breakaway civilization. A starship launced 51 years ago from earth is arriving at its destination. That is the storyline.
The story was based on actual events that took place beginning in about 1957!
"In his book "Project Orion: The True Story of the Atomic Spaceship," author George Dyson (son of famed scientist Freeman Dyson who worked on Project Orion) writes that the project, which began in 1957, aimed to launch manned missions to Mars by 1965, with trips to Saturn by 1970. According to Dyson, the project ran through 1965, was overseen by General Atomic and gained NASA's interest in 1963 because of its high specific impulse for space propulsion.

SyFy's "Ascension" embraces its space history, with the crew of its ship garbed in 1960s style, using retro tech and showing a glimpse of what life on a generational colony spaceship would be like. The show begins in the present day, 51 years after the ship's launch, as the mission hits its midpoint.http://www.space.com/28013-ascension-syfy-tv-miniseries-project-orion.html
"The real-life Project Orion began in the late 1950s and ran through the early 1960s until it was shut down after the passage of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty of 1963, according to a project description on NASA's Glenn Research Center website. But the promise of such a craft was tantalizing, especially given how it worked.
"About five bombs per second are dropped out the back and detonated to propel the craft along. A huge shock plate with shock absorbers make up the base of the craft," reads one NASA description. "Experiments using conventional explosives were conducted to demonstrate the viability of this scheme. Although this vehicle was conceived to take a crew to Mars, it can also be considered for sending smaller probes to the stars." [Superfast Spacecraft Propulsion Concepts (Images)]
But what if the program was not shut down? Couldn't they easily have continued the research by limiting the use of nuclear devices to propel the spaceship to use after it had left earth orbit???? Maybe this is when the actual Secret Space Program began. The involvement of Atomic Energy corporations also makes sense, as they have international influence and are very powerful politically. This was discovered by activists trying to shut down nuclear power plants designed to produce electricity. There are 100 such nuclear power plants in the US. It is my understanding that each nuclear power plant produces plutonium as a by-product, about 5 pounds per year. This plutonium could easily have been used to power spaceships for decades.
Regardless of whether the events depicted in this mini-series really happened or not; it is interesting to see how much is being revealed through the popular media about Breakaway civilizations and travel at light speed or close to it. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/space-warp-drive http://www.scoop.it/t/emdrive
Although the actual NASA site is still saying that the table top experiment to verify the theory of a warp drive engine had not yet happened, this paper written a year ago states that the table top experiment had already been conducted. So even in little things you can catch them in the lie, catch them not telling us everything. http://www.mehtapress.com/mehtapress/Journals/Journal-of-Space-Exploration/Volume-3-Issue-1/vol_3_issue_1_file_2.pdf
I suppose the excuse that was used during the cold war, that "These are state secrets that must remain classified for reasons of security" still holds. I guess as long as there is perpetual war, such as the War on Terrorism, that excuse is still in effect . . .
