I remember a time when America was at the top of the world. The best at many things. Most countries wanted to be just like us.

USA #1? 40 Embarrassing Things That America Is the Best in the World At Sat, January 3, 2015

Is the USA still #1? Well, there are many things that America is still the best in the world at, but unfortunately a lot of those categories are nothing to be proud of. Once upon a time the United States was the greatest nation on earth, but now we are a nation that is in a horrific state of decline. Just consider a few of the embarrassing things that America leads the world in: obesity, crime, divorce, teen pregnancy, child abuse deaths and government debt. The statistics that you are about to read below are incredibly disturbing. Most people that write these kinds of articles about the decline of America hate this country. But that is not the case with me. I was born and raised in America and I love this nation deeply. It is time to realize that we will never be able to start fixing our problems until we take a really good look in the mirror and realize just how far we have fallen. America is not the country that it once was. America is a complete and total mess and just “tweaking” a few things here and there is not going to return this nation to its former glory. We have forgotten the things that once made us great, and if we do not return to them we will continue to fall apart as a nation.
With that being said, the following are 40 embarrassing things that America is the best in the world at….
#1 America has the highest incarceration rate and the largest total prison population in the entire world by a good margin.
#2 There are more car thefts in the United States than anywhere else in the world by far.
#3 Of all the major industrialized nations, America is the most obese. Mexico is #2.
#4 The average American drinks more than 600 sodas a year – the most in the world.
#5 U.S. corporations sell more fast food and more soda than anyone else in the world by a wide margin.
#6 Nobody watches more television per week (28 hours) than Americans do. Although to be honest, people living in the UK are tied with us.
#7 The United States leads the world in credit card fraud.
#8 The United States has the highest percentage of one person households on the entire planet.
#9 The United States has the highest divorce rate in the world by a good margin.
#10 The United States has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the world by far.
#11 There are more school shootings in America than anywhere else in the world.
#12 The United States has the highest child abuse death rate in the world.
#13 There are more “deaths by reptile” in America than anywhere else in the world.
#14 The United States has the most lawyers per capita in the entire world.
#15 The United States produces more pornography than any other nation in the world.
#16 Americans take more prescription drugs than anyone else in the world.
#17 More is spent on prescription drug advertising in America than anywhere else in the world.
#18 The percentage of women taking antidepressants in America is higher than in any other country in the world.
#19 More people have been diagnosed with mental disorders in America than anywhere else on earth.
#20 The United States has the highest rate of illegal drug use on the entire globe.
#21 There is more credit card debt in America than anywhere else in the world.
#22 There is more mortgage debt in America than anywhere else in the world.
#23 There is more student loan debt in America than anywhere else in the world.
#24 The United States spends more money on government schools than any other nation on earth does.
#25 U.S. citizens spend more time in school than anyone else in the world. So why are so many of us dumb as a rock?
#26 Nobody in the world gets more plastic surgery done than Americans do.
#27 The United States leads the world in eating disorder deaths.
#28 According to nationmaster.com, the United States has the most total reported crimes in the world by far.
#29 Nobody has more airport security thugs groping women and children than America does.
#30 The United States spends much more on health care as a percentage of GDP than any other nation on the face of the earth.
#31 The United States has the most complicated tax system on the entire planet.
#32 The United States has the most laws on the entire planet.
#33 The United States spends more on the military than the next 12 nations combined, and yet the Obama administration is considering plans to unilaterally slash the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal by up to 80 percent.
#34 The United States has the most foreign military bases in the world by far.
#35 The United States exports more arms to other countries than anyone else in the world.
#36 Americans spend more time sitting in traffic than anyone else in the world.
#37 Americans spend more money on elections than anyone else does in the world by a very wide margin.
#38 Every single year, the United States has the largest trade deficit in the world by far.
#39 The U.S. government wastes more money than any other government on earth does.
#40 The United States has accumulated the biggest mountain of government debt in the history of the world.
So is the USA #1?
Unfortunately, the answer way too often is yes.
The goal of this list of embarrassing things is not to trash America.
Rather, the goal is to wake Americans up and to get them to realize what has happened to us.
We should be deeply humbled and embarrassed as a nation. We were once the best in the world and the envy of the entire globe, but now the whole world is laughing at us.
America is supposed to be a beacon of liberty, freedom and prosperity for the entire planet.
Instead, we are rapidly turning into a horror show.
Wake up America. The condition of our country is absolutely shameful, and every single day it gets even worse.
Please share this list with as many people as you can. The American people need a massive wake up call, and it is up to those of us that are awake to share the truth while we still can.

I have never understood why some people feel a need to remind others of their bad habits, their failing or their flaws. I don't believe for a moment that people are attempting to wake up society to improve the quality of life for every individual. I am sure there is another agenda for publishing such a list. We have all seen or at least read about parents that tell their children they are not smart or capable enough to accomplish certain tasks. This translates to the broader spectrum of society, by telling people how bad they are or pointing out all their flaws generally gets more of that type of behavior.

There is enough negative in the world that we do not need to be constantly reminded of it! There are a lot of positive things happening in this world that we hardly ever hear about, this is where the focus should be if we want positive change! I am sure I will get a lot of heat for honestly speaking my mind but so be it.

Well for what it's worth, snakes are reptiles and many of them in the US are dangerous. :P

As for lawyers. At one point in our history, I believe before the revolution, they were illegal. A citizen reported to the court (judge or jury) directly. Lawyers are like translators for the mountain of contradictory laws that no one wants to read, and anymore their jobs seem to be to just make up stuff and find whatever laws best fit what they're being paid to say. I think they should be outlawed again.

The United States of America is the country that tossed off the yoke of monarchy, established a constitutional democracy, was home to some of the great inventors and technological innovations. How then, did we get it so wrong? I am trying to find a pattern in 39 nine items above that would explain what we did wrong (not that we are really that worse off the Canada, Britain, and the rest of the world, but we are paving the way) I would say that:

- we put too much faith in the corporate technocracy. Edison invented the light bulb and made everyone's life better, so we gave unchecked and unquestioned freedom to the kind of expensive technology that only big corporations can produce. Go ahead, Monsanto, and bring us new GMO innovations. Go ahead MacDonalds and try your new Frankenfoods on us. Go ahead Wall Street and find new ways to transact money while indenturing into deeper debt. We may have stop idolizing the monarchy, but we started to worship and blindly trust the new innovations that came out and the corporations that were behind them, instead of honoring time tested traditions.

- Materialism. Wealth was not for Kings and Royalty in the US of A, it was for all of us. America was the land where anyone could make it, where every one should make it. If it you didn't make it, you were lazy, stupid, inadequate. The barrier wealth was not the class you were born into, it was just obtaining the money, so if you didn't invent the light bulb, than you might have to beg, borrow or steel to get ahead.

Still glad to be living in the U.S. I think because we are the wealthiest nation and the nation with the largest military, we are also also most subject to mind control techniques. It doesn't help that we are a nation of immigrants, a nation of people on the move, that we don't have the same communities, the same stability, that is there in other nations.

I think that, despite the chaos and confusion of life in the U.S.A., we still have great potential and something new to offer to the world if we can just sort out these problem. It is going to happen.

I won't give you heat, but keep in mind this message isn't for you - obviously because for you, it resonated against you. The vast majority of people really have no clue the world is in a rough shape as it is, and the vast majority of Americans (and Canadians and Brits, for that matter) really believe thousands of lies about their country "being the greatest, best, safest, smartest, richest, etc". If any of these people are to get to a state to be a help to their country rather than a sheep that continues to cause harm by following their programs, how can that be done without first shattering their false illusions with truth? As long as there is lies and people believing those lies, the truth remains veiled. -- Just another perspective on it.

...I am sure there is another agenda for publishing such a list.

Indeed. I would think such an "agenda" might be to shake a very large contingent of ignorant and unconscious out of their trance, those who invariably salivate, like Pavlov's dog, and right on cue, with the administration of very simplistic and sophomoric propaganda that nonetheless elicits fist-pumping chants like, "...U.S.A, U.S.A., U.S.A..." While I ultimately agree with your post, I take no issue with those who make a caricature of the negative--which is essentially what this list is, a caricature--when there are so many blinded and utterly unaware of the geopolitical reality that shapes and oppresses their lives and ultimately oppresses the peoples of the planet.

Of course, the approach employed by Lew Rockwell admittedly isn't for everyone; Goethe said the same thing much more poetically by proclaiming, none are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free...

What is spoken of as truth and facts isn't always so. Sure, someone can believe a report, 'fact', or statistic because it fits their world view but that doesn't mean the information is the gospel truth as it were. Information is like grains of salt, it enhances your preferences (or not).

But one is either on a journey to create a place that we want for all, or they might not.

I agree with you in this sentiment ... crime, particularly dangerous crimes, in north America and likely the world is down to it's lowest levels since about 1991 ... yet the media would have us believe much otherwise. However the high level criminals - the ones above the law are rampant.

I think that, despite the chaos and confusion of life in the U.S.A., we still have great potential and something new to offer to the world if we can just sort out these problem. It is going to happen.

The United States is among the wealthiest nations on earth precisely because it broke its yolk from the monarchy and the Bank of England; at its roots there was genuine liberty and freedom. This created tremendous wealth and opportunity for all. When a country can harness the human creativity of all its peoples it is no wonder when it produces so many innovations and technologies and transforms itself into a global superpower overnight.

Insofar as we can regain our freedoms and liberties, I agree there is the potential to turn it around... but unfortunately it would seem that door has shut. The country is on an opposite trajectory now, to collapse, economic ruin, totalitarianism, poverty and serfdom for all (except for a very small uber-rich ruling elite). To realize its "potential" it will first need to embrace its roots and once again break its yolk from the Bank (which has since regained control), the NWO, and the mega cartels that have cropped up amid the unparalleled prosperity like a fatal variety of mold on bread. As long as we don't take measures to curb the mold from spreading, these cartels will continue to spin their webs and drain and transfer the wealth of country into their coffers, until everybody else is penniless and destitute.

Admittedly, the writing on the wall isn't apparent to most because the United States continues to be among the wealthiest nations on the planet even amid this downward trend, i.e. the average (and even below-average) American person enjoys luxuries unknown to peoples elsewhere in the world, but this is only because U.S. oligarchs have commandeered the military might of the country and have imposed unto the rest of world the national currency as the reserve currency of the world. That's not unlike an organized-crime shakedown. It would be as if you owned a convenient store business and forced all the patrons of your entire market, at gun point, to frequent your store while at the same time forbidding them (at gun point) to purchase wares at any other store. It this milieu it matters not how good or competitive your products are, or if your business fundamentals are on the decline; all those who distribute, supply and establish commerce and economy around such a store will remain fabulously well to do. This is why America is still among the wealthiest nations of the world even amid its ongoing collapse. If the U.S. dollar were ever to lose its reserve currency status, however (currently in the making), the wealth of the nation would change overnight and the peoples of the United States would be no better off than the peoples of any typical third-world banana republic.

It's still an ongoing saga, and I am hopeful we will figure it out and take the appropriate action before it's too late, but I'm not so sure enough people are even aware there is "something wrong", so to speak. Those in control of the destruction very impressively keep the masses entranced, like skillful magicians and hypnotists. I think you may be correct that the population, given its decadence and narcissism, is very susceptible to mind control. Until it hits their wallets, threatens their lives, or directly impedes the lives to which they are accustomed, they will continue to buy I-Pads, flat-screen TVs, and mortgage their futures on high-interest credit that is impossible to repay.

I'm...not...so sure I share your optimism and gratitude about living in the U.S right now.... Sure, the strings were still playing, the ball-room dance floor was open, and you could still procure a generous pour of Louis XIII cognac in the finest crystal snifter from the bar of Titanic even an hour or so after it hit its iceberg... but that didn't at all mean the music wasn't about to stop.

Oddly, so many people don't even realize that things are so bad. The people committing crimes don't see what they're doing as bad. Heck, one person I knew was asked if they did something bad, would it be bad. The answer was "Only if they got caught".

But you are right, rgray. Not enough attention is on the good stuff going on in the world. I think we can thank Lamestream for that. They tend to exaggerate everything for influence. In spite of all the horrible negativities in the world, I still see good people surviving them. It would be nice to see a list of the good things people do. Maybe someone found one and can post it here. It would be nice.

I posted this because in all my years, I've watched America declining. It's sad that it happened, but I hope I live to see it heal and grow morally strong again.

You get no heat from me, rgray. You spoke the truth.
