A massive blaze has engulfed the ‘Marina Torch’ skyscraper in Dubai, forcing hundreds of people to flee the 336-meter-high tower – one of the tallest residential buildings in the world.

The fire started in the middle of the tower, rapidly spreading across some 15 floors, according to photos and videos from the scene.

As the fire spread, chunks of the facade were seen falling down. Thousands of people were evacuated from the tower and surrounding buildings, gulfnews.com reported.

The scene of a colossal building in flames is reminiscent of the “Titanic going down,” a witness told the Dubai-based paper. Fire-fighting crews and police have cordoned off the area.

Police have yet to confirm if anyone has been killed as a result of the blaze, local media reports. Many people evacuated from the building, however, have suffered from smoke inhalation, according to Gulf Business.

Fire crews are trying to bring the blaze under control on the top floors of the building, but strong winds are apparently hampering their efforts.Firefighters on the ground are extinguishing the debris and pieces of molten glass falling from above.

The fire alarm went off shortly after 2am, according to a tower resident, who said it wasn’t the first incident over the past few weeks.

"There have been three fire alarms every week recently and all were false,” he told Gulfnews. “This time I heard it and said it must be false. But then I smelt smoke. I took my wallet and ran down along with my wife. We live on the 59th floor."

Resulting from, induced by, or associated with burning.

Ca-du-ce-us
The magic wand of Hermes with two serpents wound around a winged staff; formerly a symbol of the occult and of alchemists, it is now more often associated with medical institutions.

Pyric Caduceus could be loosely translated as "Burning Staff."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torches_of_Freedom

"Torches of Freedom" was a phrase used to encourage women’s smoking by exploiting women's aspirations for a better life during the women’s liberation movement in the United States. Cigarettes were described as symbols of emancipation and equality with men. The term was first used by psychoanalyst A. A. Brill when describing the natural desire for women to smoke and was used by Edward Bernays to encourage women to smoke in public despite social taboos. Bernays hired women to march while smoking their “torches of freedom” in the Easter Sunday Parade of 1929 which was a significant moment for fighting social barriers for women smokers.

Greek lightning we used to call it (I guess we lived in an area where there were a lot of Greek Turkey Farmers...) Larry Weinstein would call it Jewish lightning... ; ) That's why insurance is a gamble...

what is strange is there are no news reporters talking about the fire , and only one video being spread around ... they did six months on Anna Nicole's death , many months of other stories that were basically nonsense , they showed 911 only that day , and now this huge fire in a huge building with a name like Marina torch , and there is not one story out there from mainstream ... How did a fire get that big ??? didn't that building have sprinkler systems ??? didn't they recently have false alarms the last week ??? it seems the stories that are news worthy get tucked away quickly and the propaganda gets six months of prime time ...

The Webbot has had a lot of data lately about fires. There were to be a series of fires as a temporal marker leading up to a massive surge upward in price of gold and silver. As with other forms of forecasting, the webbot is very vague on timing, but Clif can often give markers as, "this will happen right before this" kind of thing. So, a series of fires (including one that would be near an ocean that burned many govt records that is going to eventually cause massive problems, and that one happened last month) and according to Clif today, after this Dubai fire, there is only one more major fire before that uptick in gold and silver prices.

Disaster management committees are spending huge amount of resources in the region preparing codes for radiation incidents in buildings. But the reality Is disgruntled contractors when losing maintenance contracts will do things like pour concrete down sewage systems. The subsequent contractor is then put under emense pressure to resolve problems. The effect being people are evacuated due to dangerous levels of methane gas in buildings. It would be wildly speculative to diagnose an exploding fart being the cause of the incident. Full credit to emergency services.

"and there is not one story out there from mainstream"

A fire has swept through the Torch skyscraper in Dubai, one of the tallest residential buildings in the world.

Strong winds helped the blaze to spread across the 336.1m (1,105ft) high building in the marina district.

One eyewitness told the BBC "there was debris flying everywhere, falling into neighbouring buildings". The fire was later extinguished.

I was talking about CNN and Fox and Fox business etc , most videos were the same just shared ... they usually run the same stories every 10 minutes over and over but , the huge fire didn't get the normal attention that trivial things get ... thanks for the links ...

Yesterday, I tried following some news channels from the region (Arabiya, Jazeera, Dubai) and the Arabic versions of Skynews and RT, to look out for this event.

I must say that I did not spend all day watching. There's something about these channels that unsettles me. As I was waiting for some news on the Dubai fire, it was one soldier after the other, war scenes, people screaming, chaos, anger. It's nearly always like that on these news channels. On a very rare occasion, say close to the annual fasting, some dietary news is aired (on Arabiya, for example) and it's a true refreshment.

"Normal" news (whatever that is), and I'll go by European for comparison, is also dim. Let's face it. There is little to no happy news, but it's diverse. You have bad news about economy, bad news about traffic, bad news about health, and then also, bad news about wars (example of good news about war is probably the end of it).

The channels mentioned above seem to only have bad news about war. And it upsets me, because these regions have so much more (bad) news to bring: on economy. There's a lot to report about social structure, poverty and racism between different tribes. Bad news about the educational system. Not that I'm promoting bad news in any way, but you don't have a world view when all you're allowed to see is war. And what it does with people's minds when they put the news on and there's only war.

Well, eventually, I did see a quick flash of a report on this fire on Arabic RT. The other channels did not say anything about it for the duration that I was watching but may have done so further on the day.

Fires happen everywhere in the world, even in Dubai, thank God no one died.

If they go details on reporting, they have to talk who did have residency in that building, later which famous or royal did have a loft in neighbouring buildings. Do you see this is very sensitive matter. If I had safe house in Dubai, I would not want to disclose my safe location or any one talking on about that neighbourhood.
This is almost an earth security(like USA's national security) issue.
