View Full Version : Russia Today (RT) to Face Inquiry Over ‘Anti-Western’ Comments

I doubt many are surprised by this, though I did think it would happen in the U.S. first. The "Patriot Act", COG mandates, exec orders, etc. make anti-government "propaganda" illegal in a time of war. In the U.S., it is always a time of war, whether it is the perpetual "War On Terror" or the war-like behavior in whatever Country isn't playing along with U.S. "economic goals" - or to give a boost to Defense contractors or whatever, because the sunset wasn't pretty that day...

Russia Today Should NOT Be Facing an Inquiry for ‘Anti-Western’ Comments
March 3, 2015 By Stuart Hooper
21st Century Wire

Is it really this easy to launch an inquiry in 2015, the era of multi-mass-media, where you can find a biased view with the click of a mouse or swipe of a touch screen? What makes television so special?

Broadcaster RT is facing an inquiry after one viewer, apparently so deeply offended by the allegedly ‘anti-Western’ views being broadcast, felt the need to complain to British TV and radio regulator Ofcom. The comments were made on Peter Lavelle‘s popular show CrossTalk, and supposedly breached impartiality standards. Our own Patrick Henningsen appeared on Lavelle’s show earlier this year. How is a media outlet supposed to regulate what its guests say, without outright censorship and blacklisting of certain subjects?

Western mainstream media is quick to accuse RT of being ‘Kremlin-backed‘, but always forgets to mention that the BBC is an entirely British state-funded institution. British citizens are required to pay for a Television License, to fund the BBC – no, that is not a joke.

If accusations of impartiality from RT always stem back to that fact, why is the BBC not facing exactly the same scrutiny? British group Republic, campaigning for the abolition of the backward, medieval, British Monarchy, threatened the BBC with legal action after their entirely biased and impartial coverage of the ‘Royal’ Jubilee celebrations...

This calls into question the motives and intentions of Ofcom. Is censorship, perhaps, their true agenda? Why does the UK government not take the concerns of hundreds of thousands of people seriously? Meanwhile, a single complaint can potentially destroy an entire media outlet.....

Russia Today faces inquiry over anti-western comments in Ukraine debate

John Plunkett

Russia Today is to be investigated by media regulator Ofcom over anti-western comments in a late-night discussion on Ukraine – its sixth ongoing inquiry into the Kremlin-backed news channel following complaints by viewers.

The regulator, which threatened Russia Today, or RT, with statutory sanctions after repeated breaches of broadcasting regulations on impartiality last year, faces a new investigation over its Crosstalk programme broadcast on 23 December last year.

The programme is understood to have featured a number of anti-western views in the discussion between the presenter and three studio guests, prompting one viewer to complain.

RT was summoned to a meeting with Ofcom last year after four separate reports, all broadcast in March last year and all dealing with the situation in Ukraine, were judged to have breached the code governing UK broadcasters.

RT, which began broadcasting in the UK nine years ago and a launched a dedicated UK channel last year, has previously breached UK broadcasting regulations on 10 occasions on a wide range of issues, including due impartiality, graphic images, and issues related to advertising.

The U.S. is losing an information war to alternative media outlets, including RT.
That's the message from Hillary Clinton to Congress members, who are questioning
the State Department's US $47 billion budget request for next year. And as RT's
Gayane Chichakyan reports, the U.S. Secretary of State says Washington needs to
step up its propaganda efforts.

RT suffers US media attack for daring to have a different point of view – critic

RT, ISIS and Nigerian militant group Boko Haram are three of the main entities challenging
US power, according to Andrew Lack, the new head of the US Broadcasting Board of Governors.
In an interview with the New York Times on Friday, the man charged with running US state
media placed RT on a list of threats that also included the infamous terrorist groups, leaving
many wondering how an American public official could insinuate that a news organization is
somehow comparable to radical extremists. Chris Chambers, journalism professor at
Georgetown University, and legal analyst ‘Lionel’ respond to the statement.

I regularly watch many alternative news sites, RT is quite informative, and to be honest, is more believable than the blatherings of the main-stream 'western' media who can't even agree on the truth - the holes in their biased reporting are obvious. I wish I could trust the 'Zionist' backed BBC, but I really can't. The 'NEWS' should never be geo-political, it should be honest, above-board, and IMPARTIAL. Henceforth, there will be restrictions on anti-government reportage on the internet, and here we see it:
http://spectator.org/articles/61897/net-neutrality-about-regulating-speech

The days of freedom of speech, and global dialogue, are numbered. BIG BROTHER will now be watching and listening about everything you do, in the 'western' countries especially. Small countries exceptions such as 'tax-havens'. Want to buy an organic loaf of bread? Get a permit!!!

Don't denounce RT due to mad-media scourges, as this western media doth protest too much (covering dreadful lies, deaths and false flags to their own end), and will be hoisted with it's own petard soonest.

Great article on this HERE (http://www.globalresearch.ca/americas-successful-lying-war-propaganda-vladimir-putin-the-blood-thirsty-fiend/5433571) at Global Research:

America’s “Successful” Lying War Propaganda. “Vladimir Putin, The Blood Thirsty Fiend”

Speaking of Propaganda...these (from the www.globalresearch.ca article) are laughable.

Greetings to all...
It has troubled me for a dozen years, that what I see and hear from alternative news sources looks and sounds more about reality and truth than what I may see or hear from mainstream sources...though I don't watch much from the latter, other than an occasional headline or byline in local paper that wife still receives and reads (mostly for crossword puzzles!)
I feel the alt news sites would not have become so accepted...if the mainstream hadn't become so obviously compromised, misleading, or downright bull****...zealots spewing hate and fear and threats...and cramming it down our throats every 18 minute cycle...over and over...
I quit watching it years ago, but am reminded or questioned by neighbors and friends regularly and all I can say to them is "DO SOME HOMEWORK and seek your own answers...if I tell you what I know...you won't believe me anyway...find out for yourself ! "

There, I got that off my chest...sorry , I'm likely "singing to the choir...."
Blessings
end of line.

Americans need to be aware that the Smith - Mundt Act was overturned a few years ago. This act stipulated that the USG could NOT propogandise (in other words lie) to its own citizens. What has been occurring in the last few years in particular? All sorts of FF events one after another.

How ridiculous - how Orwellian -

The MSM news is so pathetic and lacking in substance - so obviously a total exercise in Mind Control and Social Control -

RT is bastion of truth and freedom in comparison -

That's why they're worried I suppose -

when you're crap you're crap - and Western MSM news should try and not be so crap - instead of getting all moany and groany about RT...

All I know is Americans have new power with the internet making the greedy ass bankers and psychopath warmongers propaganda machine worthless. Sure granny and Grandpa still sit in front of the tube sipping koolaid like the old days, but the new generation demands instant answers and in one search see both sides of every story so they can judge for themselves.

RT is awesome, breaking truths before the Zionist media moguls have finished how they are going to spin the lies meeting.

If anything happened to RT another would instantly appear in its place

We the truthers, will never accept less...

I watch much of RT's content too but there's a part of me that reserves judgement. The following article by Anthony Wile says it much better than I ever could:

rt is just another side of the story - but agenda driven nevertheless. being a total contrast of west mass media where comparison of opinion is sometimes required. though its just a first step towards deprogramming for an individual and then asking more questions within other `deeper` parts of the internet like this forum.. there is definitely a place for it to be. has anyone ever checked their documentaries? - some are quite good.
