After quite a break from astronomy I have in the past few nights been observing the moon.

Whilst I do like looking at other things I do like lunar observation the most as the more I study the surface the more I would really like to go there, words fail me at how beautiful I looks when you really get a close look at the mountain ranges, the craters with interesting features inside them and the vast wide open spaces.

That's pretty much how close I've been viewing ,sometimes a little bit closer . It makes you feel very connected to it somehow, its almost like you can touch it and its within reach and can very easily imagine going for a stroll around. this doesn't translate as the same feeling when you watch it on a screen but there is some good detail in that clip. I have to say you don't have to have a fantastically sophisticated or expensive telescope to see the moon as close as that if you are interested in getting a set up.

I hope to not hijack your thread Verdilac, but I just wanted to share an observation I had last night that I thought would fit here.

Last night, me and a couple of friends were having a beer and playing some cards out in the garden because it was so nice outside. And just when I was ready to go back inside, after we had cleaned up and they had left, I looked up at the sky and noticed how incredibly bright the moon was.

I put my things inside and I ended up sitting in a chair in the back of my garden for about an hour it must've been, just looking up at the sky, staring at the moon. It appeared to me as if the light of the moon was casting a rainbow on its surrounding clouds (but in full circle and with a different combination of colors). It was really a beautiful thing.

I'm not sure if the sky will be clear tonight but I will be having another look.
