View Full Version : Freedom of expression is no longer a right enjoyed by Canadian governement scientists

Since the election in 2006 Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper, there has been a gradual tightening of media access protocols for scientists working for the federal governement...

Researchers previously available to answer journalists must now redirect these questions to media relations services to them, asking reporters to send their questions in advance or even prevent scientists to speak.

The Canadian governement employs thousands of scientists working in different departments and research centers. The Harper governement strongly regards environmental science as a threat to unfettered resource exploitation.

Well, hello sister. I am glad to see you around. I hope everything is great for you.
In Spain is getting hard also to say or do anything against the gov. but here scientiphic research doesn´t have much buget, so most of our great scientist are working in other countries.
Big energetic hugh for you Gaia.

Hello Juan, hope you are well too

The situation does not only concern Canadians, what going on here attracted the attention of the international scientific community for good reasons. Canada is a large country with the longest coastline in the world, and is particularly sensitive to climate fluctuations, especially in economic sectors like agriculture, fisheries, forestry. What we need is a worldwide mobilization of scientists to solve climate change problems faced by the planet: A spirit of collaboration that can be hindered by internal political intentions. Climate change knows no borders.

Depends on what climate change your talking about. Are you talking of the natural climate change due to less solar activity or the false so called man made climate change?

Oooh, science run amok :)
The comic artist Mike Mignola did a piece once, lemme see, it was called "Almost Colossus".

It was about how the "god of science" would try to replace the more perfect tools of reason and faith (nothing new lol).
Mignola parodied the god of science as a giant homunculus made of iron bones and human fat.
The homunculus, carrying the consciousness of its creator, felt that it owed humanity nothing but revenge.

Freedom of expression sometimes takes harbor in forms of art many consider "low" :(
But I think some of the artists of our day and age do care a great deal about humanity.

Scientists, however?
How does one become attached to something that is being redefined constantly?

It causes me to chuckle when people talk about rational science, progressive science, etc..
As if humanity were some impurity to be thrown into the eternal flame...

Bah humbug ;)
I hope you guys survive Harper!!!
