Could have been the pigeon seen you are a potential food source, having bread in your pocket for example.

or, nature sharing your balcony with you.

Ultimately the interpretation can only be yours alone. Everything else would be speculation.

Every time I have a significant encounter with another animal I look up the totems to read about what it might mean. Just google something like "animal totems pigeons."
This is one of the explanations I found:

"Pigeon can teach us how to find our way back to the security of home.
It can help you remember and find the love of home that was lost.

If a Pigeon totem comes to you, ask yourself if you have forgotten your foundation,
your heritage. Return to your home, your foundation,
and draw upon the loving energies surrounding them.

In times of strife, huddle together with your family and draw upon its strength.
Pigeon reminds us of the possibility of a loving and safe home."

Another I found said this:

"The instinctual "homing instinct" of the pigeon makes it the carrier of messages from home. Pigeons in general are associated with the home and family matters. As a totem the pigeon teaches us to return to our roots and explore our heritage. Seeing a pigeon can be a message to check in with family members to see if all is well. Pigeon also serves as a reminder that we come from a clan and are not alone."

Doves are pigeons, too, so dove totem descriptions are probably relevant, too.

matt. i do exactly the same thing. you know what the funny thing is? the thought of me having to go back home with enourmous intensity at an emotional level. that i was thinking of when the pigeon sat down and looked at me.
mean while here is a fantastic story to read about
http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread898743/pg1&mem=

the person who was a skeptic got stalked in a very very creepy way and in the final comments he tells exactly how he got rid of them. it's the same totemic link.

Here’s several spirit animal sites:

Spirit Animals and Totems and the Messages They Bring (http://spirit-animals.com)

Steven D. Farmer, “Animal Spirit Guides.” - summarized

If PIGEON shows up, it means:

Watch for a message from an unexpected source.
Keep your mind on the goal just ahead.
If you’re going through struggle, look to your support system.

Call on PIGEON when:

You feel alone and lost and need to find your way, wherever/whatever that means to you.
You want to experience greater stability, peace, and a sense of place.
You need the endurance and perseverance with a project.
You’re trying to get a message to someone and are having trouble by the usual means.

If PIGEON is your POWER ANIMAL:

You enjoy being at home so much that you rarely venture out.
You have strong maternal instincts.
You’re family oriented, and when you do spend time with others, your family is your first choice.
You have clear morals and values and don’t try to push them on others.
You’re proud of your accomplishments, and continue to aspire to other goals.

These are some of my pigeon friends. I call them my pigeon medicine. I feed them which makes it another reason for me to walk daily. Even this past winter when there was 27”/69 cm of snow, I’d go out. Some were brave enough to sit on my hat and one little guy perched on my hand. What a rush...

They watch for when I park my car and come greet me. When I finish they meet me back at the car because they know I pack extra stash.

Hi Simbad, I think the pigeon is trying to tell you something for sure. You said you were thinking about going back home with emotional intensity. That is your clue. Pigeons are legend at going home, that's what they are good at. It was the Universe agreeing with your emotional thought. Greg Braden speaks about all this.

thank you very much.
now here is something new. if animals could speak to you... wait a second it seems that they do!

it's about a silicon valley inteligent woman who found a way to communicate very very efficiently with animals.
and this could be linked with the genesis story of credo mutwa. there was a time when humans were able to communicate with animals. we just lost that ability and we have to rediscover it. i think i will try and do that. it's going to be cool.
it would have been a lot simpler if i was able to communicate with it.

I'd like to know this, too. :) I know I'm probably supposed to let my inner self and my experience be my guide but I was really curious to know if there might be some kind of test to determine it (i.e. someone else's opinion). I took 5 tests online and came up with a different answer each time. lol! First was crow, then wolverine, wolf, mountain lion and owl.
Runningdear, I should've known you'd show up with some good nuggets. That was fun exploring your links. Please share more. Thanks.

How do you find your animal totem? My first thought? S/he finds you. My second thought is there are no 'rules'. For me, belief plays a big part.

The deer has been with me since I was young. I have a few secondary ones. They represent aspects of self. The most timely ones that have crossed my path when I asked for confirmation to an important question were a white crow in the pine tree, 50’/15 m away. And three months later with the same question, within the hour there was a black deer on my country road. Neither time did I know there were such colors. When I first came to Avalon I went by the name WhiteCrowBlackDeer.

During the most difficult time of my life, I saw two white squirrels before and one after a dear one's passing. I was still in a bad place months later, when I saw the third white squirrel. I reached out for ‘the BIG help’ and that's when a white and purple ‘blue jay’ touched down only a few feet away outside my window where I was sitting. The bird was white where the markings are usually blue and purple where they're white. Just as I began to doubt another blue jay touched down beside her with a loud squawk as if to say, “Now do you believe?” Those animals ‘appeared’ in real time within the hour.

I keep a running log of the synchronistic animals that come into my life. Some like the dragon will pop into my mind. I’ll look them up. More often than not, I use them to confirm thoughts, feelings and ideas.

Today, I’d say it’s not as important for me to have a power animal per se because we’re all family interacting with one another. Though, I do appreciate the joy in the moment and send blessings, hellos and thanks for the healing, smiles and love.

Thanks, Matt. I'd suggest that all of them are aspect of you. Some more so than others at different times.

I’m always passing along silent hellos to animals. Sometimes they help me discover parts of myself or test out physical connections with them. A couple of examples:

The landlady’s horse was grazing at the other end of the field. I sent him a stream of heart-hellos. Without skipping a beat, he ran full speed towards me, shook his head and whinnied. That behavior was the one and only time from him. It’s like once you’ve done the fire-walk, a repeat performance is not necessary.

The last example, I was out for a walk at a ranch in Nicasio, California where I was staying. There were about ten California Condors feeding on a carcass. I watched until one looked up. I spread out my arms in slow motion and sent from the heart center. He did the same back. Twice we communicated in powerful silence. It also lessened the impact of the flock tearing and tugging at the deer.

One last point. I'm learning to not only send from the heart, but from the body-whole. It streams stronger. In the example of the pigeons, when I walk, they fly all around me, above, front, back and sides. I feel them in my aura. One pooped on me this past winter. I felt it through multi-layers of bulk clothing. They’re companions that help me to experience with all the senses.

I was almost seventeen when a bird pooped on my head. Little did I know one year later I’d hitch-hike across the state line with only a brown bag filled with clothes and a couple of books to begin a new life. My first job was right there at that card shop where the bird christened me.

White blobs on my silver car and me. :blushing:

Pigeons are always a good omen, in my experience! I have many pigeon friends who fly into the kitchen to eat the dog's food; they sit on top of the open door and peer inside to see whether it's safe to come inside. . . majestic creatures, I am always honoured to have them visit. I see them as home and hearth symbols, the ordinary life made special by inner meaning.

I am sorry I no longer have the link to hand, but there is a site which lists the attributes and symbology of birds, which I found when I had many dreams about geese. If I find the link I'll edit it in or post it.
