I have decided to build a Ion engine. do any of you have any experience in
this field? For those of you that don't know about Ion engines, They are pretty
useless on earth but in a vacum or in space they can propell a craft to over
8 thousand miles per Hr. I need to make 2 solar powered cathodes. I also
have not decided on what my body of the engine should be made from yet.
I know it has to be made of steel but I would like to chrome it out but
im afraid the chrome might interfere with the engine. When I fire it up on earth
will I still see the bright blue exhaust come out of the back? I want to put it on
display at my work and I will also make a video for Avalon. Any ideas are most
welcomed...

Hi Jagman,

Are you an astronaut ? How will you test it ?
It's interesting.... but....why do you want to make it ?

be happy :-)

:silent: No experience, I'll just sit right here in the audience, doing something like so

Looking at the speed, will the vacuum hold your craft? Or you can build a breakable exit.

Why not try both, aluminum and chrome. Steel/iron might weigh your design down, you'd need more propelling power. You could start micro, and observe the process. When you get it right, you can enlarge your model.

Hi jagman

Why an Ion-Engine?

If your going to that sort of trouble why not build some thing useful, for here on Earth?

Good to see you again btw :)

look to nature , it will tell you all you need ... a snowflake , a raindrop ... a circle within a circle within a circle , each moving in opposite directions , creating fields that can affect gravity ... think following a beam instead of thrust pushing ...implosion rather than explosion ... the waves of the ocean are moved by gravity between the Earth and the moon yet a tiny magnet can overcome the entire pull of Earth ... hint , good luck my young jedi ...you can do it ...

Hi Jagman,

Is is like one of these?

I used to have one of these and they are very cool if not very useful....

I don't know if I can answer for Jagman, but I know I like to just do stuff for fun sometimes! I try to throw "reasoning" out the window when it comes to a lot of things. ;) Sounds like a cool project to me!
