A HANDSOME REWARD IS OFFERED TO ANYBODY WHO CAN PROVE I'M WRONG, BUT REFRAINS FROM DOING SO. ~ Ashleigh Brilliant
When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce. You look for reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce. Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and arguments. That is my experience. No blame, no reasoning, no argument, just understanding.

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We're no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It is simply too painful to acknowledge -- even to ourselves -- that we've been so credulous." ~ Carl Sagan

Wow - great quotes over the last week everyone, I'm just getting caught up.
"When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself: The people I deal with today will be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous, and surly. They are like this because they can't tell good from evil. But I have seen the beauty of good, and the ugliness of evil, and have recognized that the wrongdoer has a nature related to my own—not of the same blood or birth, but the same mind, and possessing a share of the divine." (II. 1, trans. Gregory Hays)
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
"Apparently there is nothing that cannot happen today."
Mark Twain
"As an example to others, and not that I care for moderation myself, it has always been my rule never to smoke when asleep, and never to refrain from smoking when awake."
Mark Twain
"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."
Buddha
"Be kind.
Eliminate fear.
Ride the wave.
Be your part in creation on your own terms."

Old George Orwell got it backward. Big Brother isn't watching. He's singing and dancing. He's pulling rabbits out of a hat. Big Brother's holding your attention every moment you're awake. He's making sure you're always distracted. He's making sure you're fully absorbed... and this [act of] being fed, it's worse than being watched. With the world always filling you, no one has to worry about what's in your mind. With everyone's imagination atrophied, no one will ever be a threat to the world.

If there is a heaven, then someday when I cross over there, I'd like to think my moment of entrance will be experiencing again those precious minutes when I became a mother. To do it again--to transform from wanting, hoping, and trying to imagine what it's going to be like to actually experiencing it--reaching out my arms to cradle her perfect body, pulling her in to kiss newborn skin, feeling this gutteral lurch of a new love I couldn't quite explain--I'd go back a trillion times to feel it again if I could. I'd take the pain, the pushing, all of it just to remember again what it was like to be changed so instantly. To be overwhelmed by love in that way.

Sent this one to someone recently, hope you like it:
"Seize the Moment."
"You have not been damaged by others in your life who did what you wish they had not done, or who didn't do what you wish they had. I tell you this--again: I have sent you nothing but angels. These people all brought you gifts, wonderful gifts, designed to help you remember Who You Really Are. And you have done the same for others. And when you all get through with this grand adventure, you will see that clearly, and you will thank each other.
I tell you, the day will come when you will review your life and be thankful for every minute of it. Every hurt, every sorrow, every joy, every celebration, every moment of your life will be a treasure to you, for you will see the utter perfection of the design. You will stand back from the weaving and see the tapestry, and you will love the beauty of it. So love each other. Every other. All others. Even those you have called your persecutors. Even those you have cursed as enemies. Love each other, and love yourself. For God's sake, love yourself. I mean that literally. Love your Self, for God's sake."
This reminds me that our life can be seen...as a sort of game. And we each have a part to play in it together - whether itʻs a good part or bad, easy or difficult. Weʻre not told all the rules before starting; part of the fun of the game is to have to figure them out as you play. And a more helpful approach to achieving the goal of the game is to love ourselves, the game and all of life.
It doesnʻt mean we donʻt play our part to the fullest and kick some ass as indicated, but when we kick ass we do with all the integrity we possess.
Like Muhammad Ali; canʻt think of a better example.

What is defeat? Nothing but education; nothing but the first step to something better........Wendell Phillips
Your mind is an instrument, a tool. It is there to be used for a specific task, and when the task is completed, you lay it down. As it is, I would say about 80 to 90 percent of most people's thinking is not only repetitive and useless, but because of its dysfunctional and often negative nature, much of it is also harmful. Observe your mind and you will find this to be true. It causes a serious leakage of vital energy.
Eckhart Tolle

Do not pursue what is illusory - property and position: all that is gained at the expense of your nerves decade after decade and can be confiscated in one fell night. Live with a steady superiority over life - don't be afraid of misfortune, and do not yearn after happiness; it is after all, all the same: the bitter doesn't last forever, and the sweet never fills the cup to overflowing.

Ernst T. Krebs, Jr: "Chemotherapy and radiotherapy will make the ancient method of drilling holes in a patient's head to permit the escape of demons look relatively advanced...."
Dr. H. Boucher, physician, Issy-les-Moulineaux, France: "In all ages Man has sought to justify the cruelty of his actions by decking them out under the mantle of a lofty ideal..."
" Unless we put Medical Freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship. To restrict the art of healing to one class of men and deny equal privileges to others will constitute the 'Bastille' of medical science. All such laws are un-American and despotic. They are fragments of monarchy and have no place in a republic. The Constitution of this Republic should make special provisions for Medical Freedom as well as for Religious Freedom." - Dr. Jonathan Rush, an original signatory of the American Declaration of Independence, 1776.
.I once believed in Jenner; I once believed in Pasteur. I believed in vaccination. I believed in vivisection. But I changed my views as the result of hard thinking.............Why is it that medical men for the most part follow the fashion of the day? Is it that they dare not think?........Are they like Sidney Smith ‘s old lady who said she never read the other side of a subject in case she might be prejudiced? . A man is eminent as long as he is orthodox. When he begins to think for himself he becomes a crank. It is the great commercial manufacturing firms who are providing the brains for the medical man of to-day."---Dr Hadwen 1925
Dr.Herbert Snow, eminent physician at the London Cancer Hospital: "Due to the powerful control exercised by business interests, the prospects for the public are all the more gloomy and bad the more the power of these basically selfish money interests is centered on the large-scale manufacturing chemists. The latter holds a despotic rule over doctors, hospitals, teaching establishments, pharmacies, charitable foundations. It is unnecessary to add that his guiding star is vivisection, in other words, the exploitation of the animal world under the guise of "scientific research" ...
Every day we hear of some "wonderful discovery" in the field of remedies produced in this way, which achieves enormous sales for a while, after which its harmfulness and uselessness becomes apparent. Then the demand drops...
But it matters not how worthless the alleged "remedy" may be; despite the harmfulness which many cases have amply proved it to represent, the artificially-created reputation which it enjoys continues for many years, in fact it never ends. As long as it is worthwhile for the chemical factories to make and sell the medicament, the serum, the vaccine and so on, the business goes on and on. "

Spirituality exists wherever we struggle with the issue of how our lives fit into the greater cosmic scheme of things. This is true even when our questions never give way to specific answers or give rise to specific practices such as prayer or meditation. We encounter spiritual issues every time we wonder where the universe comes from, why we are here, or what happens when we die. We also become spiritual when we become moved by values such as beauty, love, or creativity that seem to reveal a meaning or power beyond our visible world. An idea or practice is "Spiritual" when it reveals our personal desire to establish a felt-relationship with the deepest meanings or powers governing life.

"Beware of the leader who bangs of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.
"And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind is closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it ? A Death. What's that, a bonus ? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch and you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities. You become a little baby, you go back into the womb, spend your last nine months floating... And you finish off as an orgasm.

serendipitously, I was sent this today:
TREASON
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.
Cicero, 42 B.C.E.

Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... Now that I'm looking over his quotes, there is a lot of hyperbole and idealism. But I find ones like these to have a logical base :
The basic thing nobody asks is why do people take drugs of any sort? Why do we have these accessories to normal living to live? I mean, is there something wrong with society that's making us so pressurized, that we cannot live without guarding ourselves against it?
Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King are great examples of fantastic nonviolents who died violently. I can never work that out. We're pacifists, but I'm not sure what it means when you're such a pacifist that you get shot. I can never understand that.

But they're not punishments, they are freeing you of your earthly attachments.

Here's another Bill Hicks, this one is my favorite:
"The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we … kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok … But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace."

"My friends, do not lose heart. We were made for these times. I have heard from so many recently who are deeply and properly bewildered. They are concerned about the state of affairs in our world right now. Ours is a time of almost daily astonishment and often righteous rage over the latest degradations of what matters most to civilized, visionary people.
"You are right in your assessments. The lustre and hubris some have aspired to while endorsing acts so heinous against children, elders, everyday people, the poor, the unguarded, the helpless, is breathtaking. Yet, I urge you, ask you, gentle you, to please not spend your spirit dry by bewailing these difficult times. Especially do not lose hope.
"Most particularly because, the fact is that we were made for these times. Yes. For years, we have been learning, practicing, been in training for and just waiting to meet on this exact plane of engagement...
"I grew up on the Great Lakes and recognize a seaworthy vessel when I see one. Regarding awakened souls, there have never been more able vessels in the waters than there are right now across the world. And they are fully provisioned and able to signal one another as never before in the history of humankind... Look out over the prow; there are millions of boats of righteous souls on the waters with you. Even though your veneers may shiver from every wave in this stormy roil, I assure you that the long timbers composing your prow and rudder come from a greater forest. That long-grained lumber is known to withstand storms, to hold together, to hold its own, and to advance, regardless.
"In any dark time, there is a tendency to veer toward fainting over how much is wrong or un-mended in the world. Do not focus on that. There is a tendency too to fall into being weakened by dwelling on what is outside your reach, by what cannot yet be. Do not focus there. That is spending the wind without raising the sails. We are needed, that is all we can know. And though we meet resistance, we more so will meet great souls who will hail us, love us and guide us, and we will know them when they appear. Didn't you say you were a believer? Didn't you say you pledged to listen to a voice greater? Didn't you ask for grace? Don't you remember that to be in grace means to submit to the voice greater?
"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it does not take "everyone on Earth" to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.
"One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire.
"To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these - to be fierce and to show mercy toward others, both, are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.
"There will always be times when you feel discouraged. I too have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it; I will not entertain it. It is not allowed to eat from my plate. The reason is this: In my uttermost bones I know something, as do you. It is that there can be no despair when you remember why you came to Earth, who you serve, and who sent you here. The good words we say and the good deeds we do are not ours: They are the words and deeds of the One who brought us here. In that spirit, I hope you will write this on your wall: When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. But that is not what great ships are built for. This comes with much love and a prayer that you remember who you came from, and why you came to this beautiful, needful Earth."

There is no tomorrow
There is no yesterday
There is just now, and now, and now
Forever and ever
And though I may choose to carry in me
The shards of yesterday, which may
Touch and shape my now
It is my will to have
a laugh in my heart
Or wear yesterday on my face
And then there is tomorrow,
The harvest of now’s sowing
A potential of dreams
But not yet
For now is the juice
Now is the time to live
to BE the divine presence
Of the present, with its indescribable joy.

A rather insightful way of looking upon our journey we call life...
"As far as changing my future (in the now), I begin and concentrate with and on the thoughts, I create from moment to moment...This might sound too simplistic, but it really has worked for me. I am consistently focusing now on allowing my higher intuitive self in taking (real) charge over my thoughts and desires. I am daily becoming more attentive too pushing away any negative thoughts and or intrusive energies from within my rattling monkey (surface) mind. A positive personal note from this process is- it has greatly lessened the stress within my body's physiological system. I am now able now to put greater effort in creating (imaging) a world - I would truly desire to experience and exist upon. For me though, it is a continuing and ongoing process, which has required lots of focus and daily practice...But note - it has gotten much easier as the perceived time line has of late quickened. For i have increasing begun to withdraw from any desired expectations or attachments to this current very dysfunctional world system. I truly believe this is the only way one can truly transmute (transcend) with our ever changing planetary environment." Giovonni

I don't quote others. But here is one of mine:
We cannot see creation because we think we made our eyes. They report of what we believe; they are not unbiased observers. Creation, however, is still and always here. Moreover, we are that creation. Creation as we imagine it to be never happened yet we are created beings that continuously create in the likeness of our Creator. But what we create is obscured by the false beliefs in our minds that tell our eyes what to see.

We have our own contemplation, ponderance, silence.. you have ths priviledge... does God? NO! Because God is aware of everything and is assisting in maintaining our experiences of separation and unity.. God knows of no such separation.. only all that is... If you knew everything would you want solitude... well indeed you do have it through the Grace of God... Appreciate what you are experiencing now.. I don't like being alone.. but sometimes God does.. so he expresses through you and me in our own solice... Embrace this and do not deny... for what God is seeking in us.... we are seeking in him... Corson and Avalon Family, Corson, great thread, thank you! I am adding a few quotes that have been very inspiring and helpful to me and other's that I have passed them on to. Most of them are really pertaining to our critical position of our economic lives throughout the world. Enjoy!

4). All truth passes through 3 stages:
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self evident. By, Authur Schopenhaur.
5). You must recognize that you are a slave to escape slavery. (unknown)
6)."Debt is the slavery of the free". Publius Syrus, 50B.C.
7)." Give me control of the nations money and I care not who makes its laws". By, Mayer Amschel Bauer Rothschilds(founder of Banksters)
8)." Some people think the Federal Reserve Banks are the U.S. government's institutions. They are Not government institutions, they are Private credit monopolies which prey upon the people of the U.S. for the benefit of themselves and their Foreign Swindlers"- Congressional Record 12595-12603- Louis McFadden, Chairman of the committee on banking and currency(12 yrs) June 10, 1932.
9). " I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever Allow Private Banks to Control the issue of their currency, first, by Inflation, then by Deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the bankers will Deprive the people of All property until their children wake-up Homeless on the continent their fathers conquered".By Thomas Jefferson. It doesn't matter how long we may have been stuck in a sense of our limitations. If we go into a darkened room and turn on the light, it doesn't matter if the room has been dark for a day, a week, or ten thousand years we turn on the light and it is illuminated. Once we control our capacity for love and happiness, the light has been turned on.

When the wheel of pain stops turning
And the branding iron stops burning
When the children can be children
When the desperados weaken
When the tide rolls into greet them
And the natural law of science
Greets the humble and the mighty
And a billion candles burning
Lights the dark side of every human mind

You are not just a meaningless fragment in an alien universe, briefly suspended between life and death, allowed a few short-lived pleasures followed by pain and ultimate annihilation. Underneath your outer form, you are connected with something so vast, so immeasurable and sacred, that it cannot be spoken of - yet I am speaking of it now. I am speaking of it now not to give you something to believe in but to show you how you can know it for yourself.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity answered,
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.”

That's a great observation made by the Dalai Lama. Thanks for that, Antithesis!
It reminds me of this quote by Oscar Wilde:
"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all."

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting........e. e. cummings

(T.V. Interview with David Frost, 1972)
David Frost: What would you like people to think about you when you've gone?
Muhammad Ali: I'd like for them to say:
He took a few cups of love,
He took one tablespoon of patience,
One teaspoon of generosity,
One pint of kindness.
He took one quart of laughter,
One pinch of concern.
And then, he mixed willingness with happiness.
He added lots of faith,
And he stirred it up well.
Then he spread it over a span of a lifetime,
And he served it to it to each and every deserving person he met.
I wish people would love everybody else the way they love me. It would be a better world.
