View Full Version : Why does the process of Death take so long?

I do not understand why it takes such a long time for death to occur - my beloved old blind cat has spent the WHOLE day dying & is still vaguely conscious, in the body. I promised him I would not euthanize him; but now he lingers, & seems to have died, but still revives & reacts when I touch him.
He is about 22 years old, I adopted him when he was about 8 years old, when I arrived in this country; he has been the sweetest, kindest of companions; very psychic & telepathic. . but I am beginning to think the Universe is NOT a kind place after all - although I have worked on the premise all my life that ultimately all is Fair, all is Right & for Ultimate Good.
I know that Death takes some time (even weeks) to take place in humans & larger aniamls; but for a being of this kind, highly developed, humourous, & gentle - why should he suffer so long? I could understand it in a human animal, but a cat has no karma from this life (as I understand it) & can fly free easily. . . .my heart breaks for him, & I am also angry with the Devas who are in care of him. . . .

Perhaps there is a form of attachment to one another? (generally speaking)

Dear Kirolak, I think your beloved cat is only partly in body and mostly out. I think there is no pain. I have held my daughter's dying cat for the better part of a day when she died. Love your cat friend. I am certain he will feel whatever energy you are feeling. Were I there, I would hold him with love and murmur my thanks and gratitude for his companionship. Hard as it is at the moment, feel that all is well and as it should be. And now I enfold YOU with love, and all who are undergoing loss, for who amongst us does not feel pain in the process of living life here?
Bless you. Bless your cat.
If you have any flower essences, they are useful at times like these.

Hi, kirolac. This is so sad, and I am so sorry for you and your cat. The first thing I thought was that perhaps he is waiting for you to release him? Maybe he just needs to know that you will be ok without him? Plus, I am sure that he will miss you, and so he may not really want to leave, even though his body is shutting down. Just my two cents, but perhaps just keep petting him, and let him know that you will be ok. Take care.

Hi kirolac
All of normal life has a cycle which needs to run it's course...and so my advice would be to keep him close by and just give him time...if you think he is in pain then get some pain relieve from your vet...he will go naturally.
Cats are experts at out of body travel...mine are constantly popping up when I go OB and they also do it every day...so he probably spends most of his time there now...and that is where he will be when he finally leaves his body.
Just send him love...they know..
Love to you

Hi kirolak, I am very sorry and empathise with your sadness. You did not mention the name of your cat, but I will now send him some strong (soothing) energy which may help with his transormation, respectful to his gentleness and soul needs.
Peace ~

Dear Kirolak,
As a lover of cats, I fully understand what you're going through. As a child, whenever one of my cats would die, I would become physically ill.
I feel you should give your cat full permission to leave you. Cats are such special animals. I've seen cats take on their owner's physical illnesses as a way to repaying the love and care the owner gave them. I have a friend who had thyroid cancer and became very ill. Her cat developed thyroid cancer and the owner got well! That cat had a very difficult time passing. I imagine this was because it didn't want to leave its beloved owner.
Talk to your beloved cat. Thank her/him for all the wonderful years of purrings and soft touches and company and laughter it gave you and then give them loving permission to go. Sometimes, that's all they need.
Love and healing,
Daughter of Time

Hello kirolak, so nice to know your friend is so loved in in such great home.
Sorry his way off passing is upsetting to you, but he is still up to something and I'm sure finding it all very interesting :)
Let it be natural for him!
Love to you, Love to your cat friend :)
Alan
PS: I agree with Finefeather, he replyed so well!
Love to you as-well Finefeather :)

Thank you all so much. . . I gave him permission to go some days ago, & repeated it each time I stroked him. . . he seems to have gone now, but I can't see his little spirit, although I can usually see auras & spirits. . .:(

Maybe you will feel him brush against you, or jump up onto your bed, instead of seeing him.

When my sister's body died she was already out of it and not feeling anything from it. I know because she was with me for the last few days. She was thrilled to be free! Her body was in Oklahoma and we were here in Sacramento.
I'm terribly sorry to hear this news kirolak; I was unfortunate to lose my beloved cat just over a year ago. She also lived to the age of 22 and it pained me to see her in so much distress (due to a stroke she suffered whilst I was away from home). When I first saw her later that night I knew something was terribly wrong and she could barely walk without falling. I slept with her for the rest of that dreadful night knowing that my mum intended to euthanise her in the morning. It pained me to say goodbye and still does (I'm still upset whilst writing this). I strongly opposed the euthanisation however I know that she died peacefully in a sleep whilst laying in my arms; I thought it would only be fair to say goodbye by allowing her to be in the arms of the person she loved most whilst drawing her last breath. I still get a feeling that she's still with me however I will never let her go so long as I am alive. Peace and blessings sent out to you and your beloved cat.

The bond between us and our animals (family) is truly amazing. When my dog Bailey (black coat retriever) died several years ago it was devastating for my entire family, ... though we all knew that he was in a better place... I truly look forward to seeing him again someday. He was a true protector of our children when they were young.
I either listened to podcast or read an article from an animal communicator sometime within the last year and it was mentioned that some animals don't always like to pass on because they don't want to leave you alone, .... without another pet to take care of you.
Blessings.

My deepest sympathies to all others who have also lost 4-legged family members . . . . now Rajah has gone at last, we buried his little body in the back yard this morning. I do feel him around me; last night my bedroom (where he died) was quite thronged with orbs, light forms and spirits, I like to think it was his reception committee. . . . I am still listening out for his very distinctive, loud Siamese voice. Namaste all x
