I've heard even Elon Musk (the man who started the Tesla Electric Car company) rail against Hydrogen as a fuel, but he was talking about fuel cells, which are not internal combustion engines, they are plates that combine Hydrogen and Oxygen into water and output electric current flow.
These are different than that.
Hydrogen is a drop in replacement for gasoline, and it's actually easy to do and many back yard mechanics could do this with little or no help, and, many have. Hydrogen is what powered all the Applo rockets, and yes, it is a drop in replacement for gasoline in internal combustion engines.
So, because these internal combustion engines are already EVERYWHERE, it makes sense to do this. Car batteries are sufficent to produce enough Hydrogen in every attempt that has ever been made in earnest to do this, and, yeah, it works very well.
The great thing about Hydrogen in an internal combustion engine, is that it makes steam as the majority of its' exhaust, which is just returning the Hydrogen and Oxygen to water.
My thinking today is that this is actually the quickest way possible to end the steady stream of noxious exhaust fumes that are being produced in fossil fuel driven internal combustion engines world wide.
Thoughts?

You tube searches will yield do it yourself video's for how to make these yourself. Some are better than others, you may have to watch a few to get one good comprehensive video, and, there are also products available to purchase that produce Hydrogen from water, so you could just buy your way in.
Personally I wouldn't buy an existing Hydrogen generator, unless it had good and easy access to the plates where the electrolysis occurs. Doing this to water leaves minerals behind, and I'm pretty sure they'd need to be cleaned thoroughly once in a while.
And these things are not cheap. Cheap ones can be found for 3 to 4 thousand, and good ones are more than $8,000 up to $25,000 or more.

There is no shortage of videos of those who have done this themselves.

This is good. The part 2 to this describes hydrogen fuel cells?!?!?! Whatever. This is good:
