So I printed and have my children distribute my anti vaccine leaflets few days back. Today my PC cannot detect the printer. I tried everything to fix it to no avail until I decided to run system restore. In the system restore folder I notice that there where 3 windows update performed today so I selected them and run restore. After the restore my printer is back.
I used to have a very bad feeling about windows update I knew there is something fishy about it.

That windows 10 update has spyware in it and mozilla will not accept the adobe flash or java programs or google chrome. Snoop zoners installed that take your browser info. I still use 7, because everyone after that has that program. It got stuck in a yahoo search awhile back, and my avast blocked it, until I did. Wouldn't allow me to search/drag it anywhere else thank God. My sys restore brought it all back. I just don't upgrade my program. I'm pleased w/my Libre program that does its own updates and not one problem. It's free and does everything microsoft word does and excel. LibreOffice.org

Just donate whatever you have so they can remain a people's worldwide free program.

I did it and thank one of the administrators for giving me the tip to pass on to others.

Godspeed.

I had to take my PC in to get fixed a couple of years ago after a F******g Windows update: the svhost.exe which controls the update went nuts and stayed on constantly, using up all my cpu. The IT guys couldn't fix it short of a complete reinstall which I declined as it would have been a major to reinstall all the other software again. They offered a simple alternative fix: turn windows update OFF and avoid dodgy sites (and get a good virus scanner ;)). Has run fine ever since.

(And there is NO WAY I'm using Windows 10... ever! :))

I have turned off windows update after reading about many complaints online. I have over 100 updates wanting to be installed 562 mb. There is no way will i install those in one go who knows what will happen.

I know someone who still uses xp and is not bothered about windows withdrawing support for it as he has never had any and never installed any updates, and never had a problem.

One of these days i will install linux and us that as my main os.

As for security i am using free software, Avast, Malwarebytes and Spybot, i turn the last two off in start up using CCleaner another good free program to avoid conflicts with them running together. This just means i have to do manual scans, np its just a click of the mouse.

Check online with your printer manufacturer if they posted a driver update that works with the new release.

Micro$oft is enforcing "driver signing" more and more .. in a way it's a good thing (prevents dodgy drivers getting on to your system). It ensures the driver can be traced back to the company that developed it. If your printer driver hasn't been digitally signed, Windows 10 may reject it. One may have gotten away with this in Windows XP & Windows 7, but not anymore. As Olam says above, it's probably best to download & install the latest drivers from the printer manufacturers website.

Thanks everyone I still use W7 and normally turn off windows update perhaps one of the children turn it on. Although we all knew that they can operate any computer remotely whether we like it or not, Hack that is.

My printer also comes with a disk with the appropriate OS

I just got a new notebook last week with win 8. The first thing I installed was TOR browser....the funny thing is, once I turned the computer off, and turned it back on again, it automatically downloaded a bunch of updates. Pretty standard, since windows does that a lot.

But my TOR browser was gone!
