This video about excitement is very thought provoking:

The idea presented in this video, as I understand it, is that excitement has important qualities, such as bringing more fun stuff into your life and helps to organize and synchronize and should therefore have heavy weighting on the decision making.
At first sight this idea might seem thin, but try this: Measure your body weight. Then live one month doing what excites you the most, measure your body weight. Then live one month doing the standard and at times boring rat race, measure your body weight again. Now compare the measurements. You will find that when you are excited, you are improving your shape, health and weight without being aware of it. This is because passions soften your energy needs - you are spending your time having fun. This fact, that excitement impacts on your energy balance and automatically helps to keep you in good shape and health, is a good indicator that excitement has a pretty wide range of impact.
Another view I have about this idea, is that I find that living your life in excitement is an expression of freedom. And when people together express and share that freedom, it helps to bring peace.
Excitement is also something unique within you, so I think it can also be a great way of discovering who you are and a great way of fueling your creativity as a human being.
I could probably list a number of other "benefits" to this idea, but the bottom line is that there seems to be hidden/indirect benefits coming with living in excitement and by being excitement driven you can automatically gain access to these qualities.
I think that to some degree this must be already "built in", that might be why these kinds of things are normally running on the subconscious level. But I do find it makes sense to boost this by bringing it to the conscious level and apply intelligence to it.
Think of it. When you pick a thread to read here, do you start to read the least interesting thread? 9 times of 10 you will pick the thread that seems most exciting to read. This is just one example of how this already works at the subconscious level. However, I guess by default it scales well to certain things and not so well to other things. So by bringing excitement up to the conscious level it helps to "bridge the gap".
