Canberra on alert for WikiLeaks
AUSTRALIAN Govt. Officials are bracing themselves for a massive leak of classified US State Department cables.
These cables could include embarrassing disclosures about Canberra's secret diplomacy on controversial issues, such as the war in Iraq.
The Gillard government was one of several foreign governments put on notice about the leaks, expected to be released within days by whistleblower group WikiLeaks.
So seriously is the issue being taken that several sources told The Australian it was raised during a phone call yesterday morning between Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss the crisis on the Korean peninsula.
It is understood the Department of Foreign Affairs and other agencies in Canberra, including the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, met to discuss the leaks, which a senior Australian government official said had prompted a "strong measure of concern".
"The whole thing is pretty big," the official said.
The latest tranche of classified documents could comprise more than two million diplomatic cables sent between the State Department and its posts around the world.
Australian government agencies are bracing for the worst, "in part because we simply don't know just how bad it might be", the Australian official said.
The disclosure would be the third major leak by WikiLeaks.
The organisation released 77,000 documents on Afghanistan in July, followed by a second leak of 400,000 files on the Iraq war.
WikiLeaks has said the pending disclosure will be seven times the size of the Iraq leak, about 2.8 million documents.
A second source told The Australian senior officials inside the Defence Department were concerned some cables could refer to the Howard government's support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
The Australian has been told the leaked cables include material sent up until February this year and predate the Iraq war.
This raises the possibility the Rudd government could also be exposed.
The Howard government did not commit Australia to war until March 2003, following a request from then US president George W. Bush.
But speculation has long been swirling that the Howard government had privately signed on to the controversial war well in advance of the formal request - a charge flatly denied by former foreign minister Alexander Downer. He condemned WikiLeaks yesterday for leaking the documents, while at the same time playing down their significance: "Do I think these particular documents would be incriminating or damning? I think the answer to that is no."
The Howard government predeployed forces to the Middle East in advance of committing to the war, but said that was just sensible contingency planning should diplomatic efforts to ease the impasse with Saddam Hussein fail.
Australian officials are also said to be on the lookout for documents discussing Canberra's handling of the David Hicks and Mamdouh Habib cases, both of whom claimed they were mistreated while in US custody in Guantanamo Bay.

That won't do much good if they are bought down, because the Liberals are just as bad, if not worse....
Actually, it's becoming nigh on impossible to tell the two sides apart anymore (if you ignore the broadband issue)..... :(
What we need is a new form of democracy.

Canberra is ROTTEN to the core. It's extremely hard now to find the politicians(minority) with integrity.
Australia has become a wealthy state, which has sold out to big business and foreign interests (note:thanks John Howard).
Look at coal, iron ore and uranium exports. Just image that eight to nine years ago the currency exchange rate of GBP1 bought AUD2.50 and now NOV2010 GBP1 buys AUD1.61
Draw a line in the sands from the Nothern Territory down to South Australia and give the aboriginals the left half and the mixed races the right half, then that way the indigenous elders can carry on their ageless traditions because CANBERRA doesn't have anybodies interest at heart.
I implore for a role model to display rationale, reason and logic.....-Employment vacancy- Australia urgently needing HONEST POLITICIANS....for the affairs of state.
I nominate that great music group 'Spy v Spy'.

Australia's government is a joke.
Even the underlings are corrupt.
Yeah, im talking about the BCC ticket mungrels - handing out tickets when its a parking 4-7pm zone when it's 6:30pm. When asked if they got the job because they dropped out of school/cant do math as they clearly cant read the time and are giving out fines at the wrong time - they tell you its none of you're buisness. zzzzz, wish i had the balls to stand up 2 them and pretend it was my car they were trying to give a ticket too :(

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA that would be soooo funny.
Reminds me of a candid camera set-up. This woman was trying to unlock a car door with a coathanger - then this guy came along and she asked him for help.
While he was trying to unlock it, she took off and the police came and patted him on the back and wanted to know what he was up to.
So funny. I laughed, I did.

That's because they all work for the same team.
Check this out, liberals, labor, nationals, greens, democrats, all fingers on the one hand, but only one palm.
What we need is a new form of democracy.
So you want to replace death by electric chair with death by hanging as a solution?
No thanks, no democracy for me.

Depending on how confident you are, you could threaten to place them under citizens arrest for attempted fraud and anything else we could think of.

.......'Australian government is a joke'....well, that's a no-brainer.
Take a look at the capital in person if you have time to kill....or do they
call it 'Capitol Hill' ??.....don't know anymore as it's fast becoming another
republic of the US of A. Canberra is as artifical as the government reprsenting it,
(or should that be the other way/ vice versa, politicans are as artifical as the state
they represent). The only site worth seeing is the aboriginal tent city on the lawn
in front of the 'facade'. And as for Julia Gillard....please vacate the office now!!

Good Morning Good Avalonians, the Earth says hello!
Jacks made the original post back on Nov. 25, 2010 ... over three and a half months ago!
Question begs: has anything substantial transpired in those three plus months wrt to political damage to the Australian government (the proxy of the Ozzie establishment)?
If no ... why not?
Quick answer: Wikileaks is a tool of the establishment ... and Julian Assange, a fictitious rebel with nary clue or cause, just knowledge of his role as a rabbit on the racetrack (to keep the greyhounds running while the real games are being played offtrack).

'US Securities and exchange commission' then typed 'Commonwealth of Australia' which then
gave me -63209 documents- ....so are in agreement that the US of A and Australia are
'INTERTWINED' or am I looking at the wrong site ie Australian securites and investments
commission....which also appears to be in the pocket of the US.
Yes of course the australian government had soldiers in Iraqi before the war. What do you really think the SAS poising as tourists went there just to take happy snaps or where they actually doing some recon work.

So you found that the corporation THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA is domiciled in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA corporation with the head office address as the embassy in DC?
That makes Australia part of the UNITED STATES and in all likelyhood, a federal territory like Guam.
That means US law applies and the strawman domiciled here should have access to US courts.

Let's see, death by hanging, death by shooting, death by electric chair, death by lethal injection or death by stoning.
Mmmmmmmmmmmm, decisions, decisions.
There is no either/or, they have different methods, the result is the same.
Democracy = perpetual slavery.

Here we go, did you vote?
Don't fiucking vote!
I don't vote. The last time I voted was before the announcement that Bob Hawke seized power of the Labor leadership when they threw out Bill Hayden. When was that??? Ahhh. about 1983 or 4.
Never again. Anarchists don't vote. You want to perpetuate the system that keeps you enslaved, then vote by all means.

Evolve....you say....thats the new paradigm ?....evolve like a butterfly.
Evolve....is a viable alternative but i'm afraid there needs to be more
than that, it lacks substance...please elaborate......Question -
1. A change in the paradigm ? or 2. An ascension to a new level ?
Is a civil disobedience required to shock or create a vibration of change,
for example...laying on the roads to create disruption (non violent).
Evolve....you say, Lord Sidius...there is no quick fix because WE dont have
time and living for eternity this way is not an option....so please explain....
IS THERE ANOTHER STRATEGY ?...if voting and demonstrations dont work,
then there is another way....WE ARE RESOURCEFUL....and RESILIENT.

If they called an election and nobody came, wouldn't that be a signal from the masses that they could care less what the government does?
What if that government decides that totalitarian control is the answer?

Democracy is the polar opposite extreme of autocracy.
Both are doomed to fail. Democracy, because equality of individuals does not exist in mindspace. Autocracy, because more than one individual exists in mindspace. Balance exists in between ... but the exact form is still largely elusive. Methinx the model of the council of elders is the best attempt yet at self-governance.

I see you speak of quick fixes, my question to you is this, why would a quick fix work for a problem that took centuries to arise?
The only quick fix is violence and I am sure that isn't what you want.
I would say the answer is 1 and 2.
Not only do we need to change the paradigm, we need to ascend to a higher vibration.
Ironically, they are both part of the same programme.
That could include civil disobedience as there are many ways to do that.
