This is something I can believe because I have a very similar sleep pattern. its best to listen to ones body as everyone is unique. I have read of a man that never sleeps.

Turns out that psychiatrist Thomas Wehr ran an experiment back in the ‘90s in which people were thrust into darkness for 14 hours every day for a month. When their sleep regulated, a strange pattern emerged. They slept first for four hours, then woke for one or two hours before drifting off again into a second four-hour sleep.

I have the bi-phasic sleep pattern, too. So it looks like we do need 8 hours of sleep per night. We just don't need to have it in one solid block, though. The problem does not lie with the natural bi-phasic sleep pattern, but with our industrial society, which requires us to treat ourselves as if we are machines, and go against our natural rhythms for the benefit of our industrial over-lords :(

8 hour sleep pattern is an average not the norm.
It is a baseline in which some doctors work with to determine sleep patterns for there patients.
And not all can sleep a straight 8 hours let alone four.

Our Creator/s have had our DNA programmed such that we need to sleep a number of hours to be fit physically, mentally, etc., the day after (at least we feel that!)!, and we can't live without it!
Our Scientific World (for what it is!) has it that sleep regenerates our tissues, our growth, our state of mind for renewed energies the day after. Knowing that, our possibilities of changes stand in sleep, but I guess we are still limited in some way by our physiology, by our Creator/s somehow!, any member here has tried different techniques for changes during sleep?, if so, may you share that experience?, many thanks!

for decades I only sleep 5/6 hrs. a night (I don't want to miss anything in 'awake-land') and am completely healthy except for 2 ripped knee cartilages (didn't happen while sleeping but they're healing) + despicable allergies-

For many years I have studied -the human portal -interdimensional testimonies (see neruda 5 interview by james Mahu at wingmakers.com). The sleep pattern of the old broken matrix was 8-10 hours of sleep. The biome (physical animal body) needs 4 to 6 hours of sleep to regenerate its cellular integrity. The extra sleep is for programming from the collective unconscious mind system that the annunaki used for their humanoid animal slave. The body bios is not tired and fatigued, just the mind. The AI (artificial intelligence) of the organic robot feeds on the electric charge of the human muscle tissues and it causes sickness and premature death (old age). The AI, or egomind in modern psychological terms is not the same MI (as machine intelligence). The AI is the set of programs that pre-determine the slave destiny. That is why the human portal works from the first point of DESTENY. It is difficult for me to stop the old sleep pattern. I do not want to participate in the old anunaki humanoid animal mind system. The process of self-realization is a very simple but difficult path. Each of us has only to trust oneself, no other. Since we have been programmed for thousands of years to serve the Master slaver(s) by religion, politics, economics, education, entertainement, ect... it is only natural that the deprogramming of oneself is a unique synergetic commitment for each of us.
Another exemple is the food pattern. What does this unique biome truly need for a healthy daily life activities. Each must answer that for oneself. The life mission of this incarnation is also unique to each individual. We can share information with our sincere heart and mind intent. Each must decide for oneself.

I find this interesting, and I would refer you to this post: http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?81227-The-Mind-Body-Spirit-Complex-Official-Thread&p=955647&viewfull=1#post955647

I and my boyfriend in college attempted two polyphasic sleep schedules for a total of five months. I can attest to the benefits and the ability to do this for an extended period of time with benefits above the normal cycle. I prefer biphasic like many of you loves, but primarily because it fits into society. I blame our success on college living xD
If you have questions, I'd love to explain more, but I'm using my phone to post :)

Well of note people like Bucky fuller, Nicola Tesla, Frank Lloyd Wright, and a lot of there contemporary only sleep in 20min lots every few hours during a whole 24h period, I have come to believe that most visionaries do this, I think it may have to do with the way our brain process information thought out the day, when we sleep R.E.M sleep our brain "logs" and "process" the information for our long term memory.
Maybe we don't need the "8 hours". We may just need that 20 or so min lots spread across the whole Day????

Alan said that cycle sent the body immediately into rem for the twenty minutes. The twenty minute alarm was important bc our body's natural cycle only has 20 minutes of rem every like 3 hour, five layer process.
During these naps, dream and meditation become intertwined. It can get interesting.
